Report: Fished 4 days. Never got a reaction fish. Finding "fish" was no problem. Finding keepers is tough. There is no shortage of bait and the fish are gorging. Some we caught were so full they could barely fit a 4 inch worm in.Fish are in 30 to 50 ft for the most part with dropshoting being the most effective technique.Boulder piles seemed to hold the best fish
    City: Castro Valley

Tips: Oxblood and shad colored worms were the preferred fare for the spots. Bite was better in the afternoon.

Report: Fished the Elk Grove Bass Tournament on Saturday. We caught 25 or more fish all about 12 inches. Almost all of our fish came drop shotting 4" worms in 30 feet of water in the trees. We did find some fish with Hula grubs on rocky points. We ended up with only 4 fish to weigh in for 4th place. Robin and Joe took 1st place with 5 fish and big fish! Way to go!

Tips: Work the areas where you find wood cover near main lake points. 30 to 40 foot depths is where we found most of our fish. Go see the guy's at Phil's, they are a great help and really enjoy what they do!

Report: Hey everyone. As a lifetime resident of the Redding area and a longtime angler of Shasta Lake, I just want you all to know that the reports - I take that back, I can't really call them reports - the ramblings of "the Butcher" are not necessarily the opinion of the majority of us that live and work in this area and fish this beautiful lake. There is plenty of lake for everyone and it is not necessary to get indignant and abusive toward those that aren't locals, so "Butcher" you may want to find another forum to air your complaints becuase what you are posting on this site has no use as a fishing report.
Now for a real fishing report. The wife and I got out for a couple of hours Sunday afternoon after babysitting the grandson. We headed up the Pit arm and fished the main body with exposed trees. In a little less than two hours we hooked about a dozen fish with little effort, eight of them being keepers. We used only two things a 6" Peacock Bass colored worm and a Pumpkinseed colored, twin tail, hula grub. Our best five went about 8.5 lbs. The quality of fish was noticibly better on this trip. My wife liked to work the bank while I concentrated around the trees. We both did well, but I was catching larger fish in the 2lb. range. I wish that we had more time so I could have thrown a few other baits, but all in all it was a good day, much better than recent trips.
    City: Palo Cedro, Ca

Tips: Try main body points with trees. The hula grubs brought the larger fish. "Butcher", go somewhere else for your worthless postings. Even the locals are sick of them.

Report: Bobby, Shasta is like any other deep, clear Northern CA. lake. Drop shoting, split shoting, or darter head worms in shad or craw colors (morning dawn & salt n' pepper are good bets) should do fine for numbers of smaller fish. Fishing 3/8 oz.-1/2oz football head hula grubs in craw colors (green pumpkin, cinnamon blk. flk.) might upgrade size a little bit. Fish top waters early and late for bigger spots. (Poppers for smaller fish super spooks bigger fishes. If you can handle the boat traffic try to fish main lake points and steep rock walls. If not there are fish everywhere on this lake. Looking forward to your report.
    City: Mckleyville

Tips: Stay deep and have fun. Tight lines

Report: Can anyone give a novice fisherman some advice on how to fish Shasta this time of year for bass? I understand from a very seasoned angler that floating cheese at 100 feet is the only way to catch bass on this lake. My Snoopy pole only came with 10 feet of fishing string, what do I do?
Seriously, any help would be greatly appreciated!
    City: Sacramento

Tips: Don't listen to the butcher! Stop by the Elementary School, they would be just as much help!
