City: MOUNTAIN VIEW -
Water Temp: 59.4-60.5
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: In at Jones Valley at 0710, lake hovering at 102 ft down, air temp 39, no wind, ran over into Squaw Creek for a change and fished many areas above the confluence with the Pit and below Monday Flat, got 2 dinks on a blade, seven on a jig tipped with the MGM #109 twintail and two on the hoo-dun-it in #109. The best were on the HDI at 2.06 and 1.81 and most came out of 0-27ft. The blade fish were right on the bank, fished steep rock walls and long sloping points with the bigger fish coming off long sloping points with a lot of rock on them. Wind came up a bit at 10AM and thats when I caught the two bigger ones. Didn't have to wait until 930 this am got a few fish early for a change. Every one caught hit hard today. High pressure continuing and the bite for the Fall Classic this weekend is gonna be tough for most. I was going to fish it but I think I should just donate now and get it over with. I guess my money would be on Riley-Benson or Townsend-Fancelli. Then again Hunt-Gordon will probably be right up there too.
City: ReddingTips: used 1/2 oz tied up with rubber and the twin tails, used a 3/4oz on the hoo-dun-its.

Water Temp: 57.9-60.4
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: In at Jones Valley at 0655, lake down just past 102 ft, 43 degrees with a slight wind out of the NNE, ran up into the upper McCloud and fished downstream for 2 1/2 hours without a bite throwing rip baits, spooks and cranks. Got out my jigging stuff and started getting bit on the MGM #109 hoo-dun-it and twintails. ended up with 19lbs HOWEVER that was for 13 fish mostly in the mid McCloud and lower reaches and the lower pit. Biggest was only a 1.61 Smallmouth. Just couldn't find any larger fish. They wanted it very slow today but did pound that particular color with authority. The steeper stuff with lots of rock on it produced the best. air temp getting out was 63 at 1230 with 9 rigs on the ramp. Only 2 this am. Best 5 went only 7.52lbs.
City: ReddingTips: The road into Jones Valley is scheduled to be closed on Monday the 22nd while the forest service replaces culverts burnt out during the fire. Could take a month.

Water Temp: 58-61
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: fished my club tournament on sunday,..first spot produced 5 blowups per cast on a vixen hooked two fish both over 2..next 6 hrs were very clow only picking up 3 fish 1 on a dartheaded Rainbow 99 spadetail worm, and two on a hand-tied Brn jig with a #176 yama 4" twintail(all three were undersized)...with only 2 fish and ten minutes to go, I started to drag that jig again in 35-40 feet of water and picked up two keeper fish one spot, and one smallie. Ended up with 6.55 I need one more quality fish to haeva good day(for a backseater)Big fish was between 4.5-5. Just want to give a quick shout out to my boater Chris Laskowski, thanks dude.
City: reddingTips: Early try to find spook or rip fish, other than that work the dartheads slow and shallow 10-15 feet, and later in the day drag the 1/2 oz-3/4 oz jig.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: In at Jones Valley at 0640, lake down to 102 ft, 5 knot wind out of the NNE, ran down the pit for a bit to get back on the fish I found tuesday and found some but no bites for 2.5 hours. pulled out and went up the McCloud above Shallow point and saw a friend who is one of the better sticks hereabouts and he is having the same trouble, no fish. We talk for a bit then I run up further and try some steep walls and fish till 10AM when the wind died down and finally stick what seems to be a good fish on the MGM hoo-dun-it and 1/2 oz in about 17ft. The fish just loaded up and didn't do much. moved a little south and threw again with another rod wearing a yamamoto hula grub #176 also on a half ounce and get bit hard and have to turn into the wind to keep up with this bad boy. Get him up and in the net and surprised to weigh him at 3lbs, the same weight as the first but a lot more active. Fished some more back over in the lower Pit and ran for the ramp at 1215. Just 2 bites and that was it. Wind up bigtime as i was getting out near 25 knots still out of the NNE.
City: ReddingTips: some folks reporting a rip bite but I haven't found it, Have also heard of some action on spooks and worms.

Report: in at Jones Valley at 0640, air temp 53, water at 101.7 ft down, saw s ome shad right on the ramp and picked up a worm rod and got a 1.82 on first cast with ah Rainbow Worms #99 ust as two more rigs pulled up, backed away from the ramp and followed the shad throwing a spook but it only got slapped, no bites with 4 blowups, took off for some water I fished last week with the brother in law but couldn't find any fish and no surface activity at all, and no wind. Left downstream in the pit and fished till 0930 without a single bite using the MGM hoo-dun-it when things turned on pretty good and caught 4 more and the size was much better between 2.2 and 2.58. The three biggest came on the smoke blue and a half ounce and were fairly shallow in 17 feet of water. The 2.2 came out of a cut in 47 ft of water on the #23. Things came to a halt at 1030 and I did see a guy stick a dandy fish on a spook that easily went 4-5 lbs. Saw him back at the ramp and he said he caught 4 others all on a chrome spook. Out at 12noon, air temp at 55 and heavy overcast just like the early start. Supposed to rain this evening.

Report: over to the coastal redwoods yesterday with the family and inot the Lady Bird Johnson Grove and numerous stops to gawk at stuff, out this morning to the Dam for the Shasta Dam tour and home by 11AM and headed for Jones Valley at noon. Got in at 1245, lake down to 100.5 ft and no wind. Go into the lower Pit on same area as the last time and can't find any fish, move to a second spot down near squaw creek and finally boat one 12 inch fish on a hoo-dun-it in color #29/ 3/4 oz . Sister and brother in law ain't getting bit even though we are finding fish. Move around all over the lower pit and find fish and very little bait. Can't get nothing to go. Started throwing worms around 330PM and finally get one on my Rainbow Worms #99 but lose it. Judy and Phil still ain't had a bite and we keep at it till 630 PM and that was the end of that. Air temp going in was 60,. coming out 71 and only 2 outfits on the beach. A bit depressing when you are trying to put the family on fish.
City: ReddingTips: I think the full moon bit me in the behind again not to mention the late start.

Report: In at Jones Valley at 0720 with my brother in law from Indiana, wind out of the North at 5 lake is 100.5 ft down air temp 43. ran over into the middle Pit throwing topwater stuff with no bites at all, no shad activity so out came the jig rod. Phil was throwing a 1/2oz I used my regular 3/4 oz and had a #23 hoo-dun-it on mine and a 29 on Phils. We had 12 fish by 1030 am when the wind came up big time with gusts to 30 mph, best 5 went a bit over 10lbs and only 3 of the 12 were dinks so all in all a good morning. Phil picked up the jig fishing quickly and I only caught 2 more than he did. Guess I wil have to leave him home tomorrow. Out at 1245, air temp 63 with only 4 rigs on the beach at Jones Valley. Best fish today came on the #22, a brown with gold flake.

Report: In at 9:00 am at Jones Valley with the blonde in the back. Ran out to the mouth of the Pit and picked up a small one right off. Tried a new color and it seemed to work fair. Started throwing a 6" eel and caught a few more. Most fish came out of 25 to 30 feet and a real slow presentation. Managed 11 total with the largest going 1.8lb. and it came on a MGM 109 Hoo Dun It on a 1/2 oz. football head. We picked up a few on a spittin' image on top but they were all small, but a lot of fun. Jerry, I guess I must just fish better with blondes, LOL. Saw quite a few BASS guys running around and not much catching. The bite was pretty slow for us.

Water Temp: 64-65.6
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: In at Jones Valley at 0630 with the owner of MGM, lake at 100.1 ft down having come up near a foot with the rain, air temp 45, we ran for bridge bay to tag along and watch how the pro's do what they do so well, Picked our pro but lost him going up the Sac, followed the wrong guy down near Digger Bay and then ran up the Sac and found another fellow I have met and watched him for over an hour, he tried different things and so did his backseater but we didn't see him catch anything. We left as another pro I know ripped a couple of points with no fish on. Ran down near packers where I finally got bit and pulled up a 1.6 out of 35 ft of water on a 1/4 oz darter head wearing my hoo-dun-it in color #23, fished some more and my friend missed one as the bite has relly changed. Ran over into the lower Pit around some other guys and i got another after missing 2 other bites that went 1.8. Water very discolored after all the rain and the cuts and ruts on the banks are washed out. Missed a few more and my worm throwing friend missed a few to. Watched some others back in where we were and did not see anyone boat a fish. High pressure started building in yesterday afternoon and has suspended the fish. The bite, at least for us was tough. We got out at 1215 with a still nearly empty ramp at 63 degrees. Lower Pit very messy with a lot of fire debris washed into the lake. The barometer is still rising as I post this and i would imagine that most are gonna have to go deep for fish. both of mine were deeper that 30ft, one at 38ft.

Water Temp: ?
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: conditions have changed drastically, 28-35 mph winds with gusts to 60, the lake has come up 4 inches and is a mess with the winds out of the SSW. Any patterns discovered by the BASS folks over the past 5 days are probably not of much use now. It is going to be interesting to see what they come up with. I would expect much bigger sacks brought to the scales for those who can figure it out. The weather should improve this evening as this storm blows through leading to ideal conditons to finish the prefish tomorrow. The sugarloaf float has been blown onto the bank. Temps should hover round the mid 50's with a bit of warming after the storm is over.

Water Temp: 56.9-66.8
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Centimudi is down to a lane and a half with the strong north winds this week pushing some sediment into the #2 lane, Jones Valley is 2 lanes, Packers still down to 1 lane and it isn't likely that it will be cleaned out now that the rain has started, Sugarloaf is in and all others are out, Bridge Bay is a bit of a problem in the sand and the ramp has flattened out a bit requiring backing your tow vehicle in quite a bit, you are going to get wet there, The rain has arrived with winds out of the south at 20 and gusts this afternoon expected to go to 40, more rain on the way through Tuesday with high pressure building in for the BASS event, lots of folks out today for the trout derby and the 2 clubs down from Oregon and the BASS guys out pre-fishing, On the 13th we had the old guys monthly tournament won by Lloyd with 4.61, second by Paul with 4.41 and Dick close behind at 4.29,(2 fish limit) I had 3.81 and got mine on the hoo-dun-it in color # 109. We fished in 20-25 knot winds all day making things a bit difficult, out on the 15th with a friend and we had about 15 with 6 between 1.8 and 2.4 with the larger ones coming on the MGM #109 HDI and got off the water at 1230. Upper arms starting to cool down now, main body temps nearly 10 degrees warmer. I expect a great pre fish for the BASS event but the high pressure comming in shortly thereafter wil toughen things up a bit. The BASS checkin has been changed to the Holiday Inn on Hilltop drive. Best to come in from the north especially if you are towing a boat.
City: ReddingTips: my guess is that it will take 32.5 lbs to win the BASS event.

Report: not a fish report but some advise for those going to the BASS check-in:
The Holiday Inn on Hilltop is best accessed from the north whether you are towing or not. From I-5, take the 299E(Lake Blvd) of ramp and head west on Lake blvd, get in the left lane and turn left onto Hilltop at the light(Bartels Hamburger Stand on the corner) Go down Hilltop about 2.8 miles and move into the right lane after Dana St. Continue south to the Holiday Inn and turn right onto the property and then left through the lot to the south end and right again into a huge parking area on two street levels. Lots of parking out front for trucks/tow vehicles only.
