Report: INTERESTING POSTS FROM SOMEONE WHO DOESN'T HAVE THE BALLS TO PUT IN HIS E-MAIL ADDRESS TO BEGIN WITH. THE ONE THING YOU CAN COUNT ON WITH JOHN MCNEMAR(JOHNNY MAC) IS HE IS DEFINITLEY GOING TO BE ON TIME, HE IS USUALLY VERY EARLY AND COMPLETELY RELIABLE. OF COURSE, I HAVE ONLY FISHED WITH HIM ABOUT 30 TIMES SO YOU MAY HAVE TO TAKE THAT INTO ACCOUNT!!!!! HE IS RESPONSIBLE AND A GOOD MAN WHO HAS AN EXCELLENT KNOWLEDGE OF SHASTA LAKE AND I AM GONNA KICK HIS BUTT NEXT WEEK. SIDEPOT JOHNNY MAC? The lake is about 19 ft down, most debris is gone and temps are rising, there is still spawning activity in the upper arms when you find some cooler water, smallmouth very active as they are on right now. Catching fish isn't a problem at all but you have to go through 15-20 dinks to get that occaisonal 3 lber. have been averaging 15 plus for a 4 hour outing daily, ripping, cranks and blades early and then jigs and worms as the sun gets up.

Report: Even though I don't think this is the proper place to air a grievance, I feel compelled to respond to the post of the pair of anglers who booked a 1/2 day trip with me to fish Lake Shasta on the 10th without a deposit, We agreed to meet at the guard shack at Bridge Bay @ 0515 not 0530 or 0600, I was there at 0500 and waited until 0545, while waited I made several trips through the marina, I made note of several cars parked, but all were empty, I talk to this guy twice on the phone about the 0515 time, I do not use my cell phone on the lake except for emegencies. Sometimes "OPPOPTUNITY KNOCKS BUT ONCE"
Now back to fishing reports. Fished with two clients who are fishing in the Future Pro tournament this weekend. They arrived at 0516, launched at 0525, Ran over to the Pit where they started throwing Spooks, one nice fish and several small fish, went to the back of Panther Creek to fish the willows there, throwing worms and jigs no takers. Ran up to Stein Creek and started working our way back, one guy caught six smallmouth in row with four of them in the 2# class all on dropshot. We decided to head back and go up the Sac. We made one stop a one of my spots and I caught a 3.5 and a 2.5 on a worm, I think this made a good impression on my two clients'. fished the rest of the day in upper Sac. These two are very good anglers and very nice young men, we caught alot of fish and had a good day. Bill and Steve, it was a pleasure, good luck!

Report: Fished Jones Valley on the 4th and the upper Sac. on the 5th, in the afternoon both days. Best fish went 3+ with most caught on Senkos.Got off the lake on the 4th around 3 p.m. Stopped at the Jones Valley store and on the front door are pictures of some blacks over 9 lbs. caught on minnows within the last week and a half. These pictures were taken at the store. My question is were these fish returned to the lake or tablefare? Has anyone noticed the decreasing amount of largemouth sightings the last couple of years on this lake? These fish are extremely vulnerable come springtime and if this keeps up there won't be any left.
    City: Redding

Tips: Did manage to see one male largemouth guarding a school of fry and one spent female.

Report: Fished with a client from Reno who is fishing the Future Pros Tournament on the 15th, he was a very good fisherman. In at 0530 at Bridge Bay, calm with a full moon. Started up the Sac, arm and the wind picked up to about 20 mph, first stop Potty Point, client ripped two spots about 2.5# on a 78 pointer in ghost minnow and I ripped one about the same size on a Stayee 90 in Auroa Black. Fished Half Way Cove, nothing on any thing we throwed. Went into O'Brien, nothing there, up the Sac to the Gooseneck throwing a good 6" worm weightless landed appox. 30 fish to 2.5#. Showed my client where he could expect to find quality fish. Best five was appox. 12lbS

Report: First night fishing trip of the year, in at Hirz Bay with the wife, lake is 16.8 ft down and still rising, debris load is down but there is still some boat bustin stuff floating around, fished some long sloping red mud points initially with rip baits and had 6 quickly but all small, lost one about 2 lbs, started throwing jigs around 9pm and had at least 30 on but only got 11 in the boat. Typical spot action at night, grab it and run straight at you and jump repeatedly along rock walls and points adjacent. Had a good one come unbuttoned at the boat that looked to be about 4 lbs. Got out at 11pm(I'm cold, says the wife) 59 degrees getting out. The bite was improving when we left. College kids showing up in a week so I will stick to the night shift.

Report: FISHED THE SQUAW AND PIT ARM AND CAUGHT IO FISH. USED JIGS AND TEXAS RIGGED WORMS. CAUGHT THE FISH FROM THE BANK OUT TO 20-25 FT .ITS A LITTLE HARD TO FIND A BANK WITH QUALITY FISH BUT WHEN YOU DO YOU CAN CATCH SOME NICE FISH. TWO TOURMENTS GOING ON THIS WEEKEND AND THE LAKE WAS HAMMERED PRETTY GOOD. THE WILLOW TREES IN THE COVES WERE REALLY WORKED OVER BY THE TOURMENT GUYS. SAT I BROKE 14LB TEST ON A FISH IN SOME WILLOW TREES, SO THERE ARE SOME BRUTS HANGING AROUND THEM. SEEN A COUPLE BIG ONES LAYING IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUNCH OF WILLOWS. TALKED TO COUPLE OF FISERMAN THAT RIPPED AND BLADED SOME REAL NICE FISH IN THE EARLY MORNING, I SEEN THE FISH SO THEY WERE TELLING THE TRUE STORY. ((NOW THE BAD NEWS)) MY PICKUP WAS BROKEN IN TO AT THE JONES VALLEY PARKING AREA. THEY WENT TRU THE CAMPER SHELL AND BROKE THE SLIDDING WINDOW OUT IN THE CAB AND TOOK A NUMBER OF THINGS. IF YOUR OUT THERE BEWARE THERES SOMEONE OUT THERE THAT NEEDS TO BE TAKEN OFF THE STREET FOR GOOD.

Tips: MUD LINES WILL HELP YOU CATCH SOME FISH, WORM COLORS DONT REALLY MATTER IF YOUR ON FISH THEY WILL HIT ABOUT ANY COLOR.

Report: for the week of 16-23 Apr, lake now at 18.5 ft, still a bit of debris around and will continue until the lake starts to drop. My uncle arrived on the 16th but we lost 2 days to the rain. we averaged 25-30 per day when we could get out and it didn't slow up until the 23rd when most reported a few small fish. We caught them on jigs, worms and crank baits all over the lake. caught a few spawned out fish but finding bed fish is not easy with the water clarity and most have not yet moved up with the cold snap we had. Not much size right now, a 3 lb fish is looking good. Things will heat up from here on out with unseasonably warm weather on tap for the next week.

Report: Got in at Centimudi at 0605, debris all gone with the south wind that has blown it back out into the lake, 52 degrees, overcast, south wind a 8, ran over into the lower Sac arm for 12 fish by 0830, most came on rip baits thrown right on the bank and a couple of crank bait fish, didn't even get out the jig rod. My uncle is coming from Indiana this Friday and he loves a crank bait bite so that is why I used them this am, cooler weather forecasted for next week with showers off and on, went on home when the first rain drop hit me on the head, only 6 rigs in the lot, wind up to 15 when I got out, lots of debris out in front of the dam.
