Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: From what I understand the Trinity Center ramp has been plowed. 1 single narrow lane with no chance to turn around at the bottom. I've been told that it would take a pretty brave soul to attempt it. It doesn't matter to me. After getting over 80" of snow last week and having to hire a D5 Cat to dig us out, it's still going to be a while before my boat can leave the barn. The ramp should be better soon with the nice weather we're enjoying, and hopefully I can beg a ride from someone who lives a little lower and only got 3-4' od snow.

Tips: I'll at least get a chance to talk fishing this Wed the 13th. I'll be putting on a little seminar at Redwood Marine in Eureka at 5:30 PM. Stop by and say Hi.

Report: Just a quick update. My feeble calculations figured that we needed 2.5-3" of rain to bring the Trinity Center ramp back into play. We just went by 2" in my rain guage and it's still raining hard. And my wife says I can't dance...HA!!!!!!!

Report: Just got back from Trinity Center. NO GO. Ramp is too shallow to use. Pray for rain.... As far as the fishing, I'll bet it's fantastic seeing as I can't get there.
    City: Weaverville

Tips: Minersville is still working, but I'd think twice before running up to TC. Half way up would be a poor place to break down.

Report: GOTTA LOVE THIS LAKE!! HAD 21LBS AND RELEASED THEM.
Dropshotting wacky worms and texas rigged 7inch power worms bluefleck.
Sure do miss the Texas lakes, but finesse fishing is okay once in a while keeps out the boredom.

    Water Temp: 56

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I've been telling everyone lately that the Trinity Center ramp was good to 86' down. I fished today with the lake @75' and the back tires on my trailer were 6' or so from the end of the ramp. So apparently my memory has deceived me again. Anyway, unless we get some rain or BOR stops sending so much water over the hill, this may well be the last week of launching at T.C.
A lot of you have asked why I haven't posted in a while. Here's the story....... This summer while returning clients to the Wyntoon docks a couple of fishermen came up to me, politely introduced themselves, and proceeded to tell me how much they enjoyed reading my reports and how helpful they were. My first reaction was " you gotta be sh*ttin me " but they seemed sincere as well as clueless. I kept my cool and told them I was glad they liked my reports as they had just read the last one. Then I got in my boat and left. One of the guys had a limit of smallies that would have gone about 18 lbs and the others' limit was only a little smaller. I know this because they were holding up their stringers to show everyone who walked by. Needless to say, when I found out that I had been contributing to the slaughter I became phisically ill, and it's taken me this long to get over it. I now realize that teachin people how to catch more and better fish is a large part of my job, and I enjoy it. I guess I'll have to work harder to teach catch and release.

Report: Last year the Forest Service required that the Forever Resorts staff (owners of the Trinity Center facility) cut up and dispose of the floating ramp. Sure would be handy to have right now. As to the why, you'll have to check with the Forest Service. I'm sure they did a study.

Report: Humboldt Bass "Club" had a turkeyshoot out there on the 3rd. Winners won with ~15 lbs of smallies. Fish were picked up by drop-shotting in 50+ ft of water. Thats about all I know!
    City: McKinleyville

Tips: All I know is that if i had fished it, I certainly wouldn't have been dropshotting and probly would have lost!

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: My whole family of fishermen and Ladies spent the week out on Trinity. We had such a great time we will be back in a month. We caught several smallies around 3-4 pounds each day and my son landed a 5.9 smallie on the last day. It's strange to fish for an hour or two without getting bit and then hitting a spot that produces 10 fish in an hour. even my wife(who doesn't fish) walked away with a 6 pound largemouth. I will be back here in 29 days!
    City: REDDING

Tips: We were junk fishing to be honest with ya. We threw everything at them.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Fishing for me was very slow. Spent a week up
there and the bite was just off. Everyone I
spoke to was struggling. Did manage some 2
pound fish and had a few followers in the 5
pound range but no takers. Water level continues
to drop. Fairview ramp is way out of the water.
Not sure what shut the bite down but would be
interested to hear what "those in the know" think.
    City: San Jose

Tips: Do a rain dance so we can get the ramps wet next
    year.

    Water Temp: 74 - 80

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Made the summer camping trip to Trinity with the family. This year I promissed to fish a little less which was tough. With the good bite I could get the line pulled good a few times by 9:00am and still spend the day with the family. The bite was pretty good in the morning after sun up and late afternoon before sunset. Middle of the day was tough with hot weather and only a couple small fish to show for a lot of sweat. The fish were in summer pattern with most found on main lake rocky areas near deep water. There were a lot of small fish shallow, but the bigger fish were mostly deeper (20-30 feet). The fish were concentrated and areas that produced fish would produce many. Each of the 3 morning trips and the one afternoon trip produced 2 fish 4# or over. In total had a 6.2 LM, 5.8 LM, 4.3 SM, and a 4.2 SM that were scale weighted. Also had 2 other 4# SM, a 5# LM, and a 4# LM there we eye ball weighted. There were many other fish from 4" to 3#. Of the 3 trips I have made to Trinity this years bite was the best for me.
    City: Brentwood

Tips: For baits/techniques I tried reaction baits but only had a couple small fish on topwater and a couple taps on spinners baits and swim baits. Best techniques were a 3/4 ounce jig with a watermellon hula grub and drop shotting watermellon 4.5" worms. Short leader 4" to 6" worked best on drop shot. The SM wanted the baits worked faster or would eat it on the drop. The LM wanted it worked slower or dead sticked.

All fish were released so that our children can enjoy fishing this special lake.

Report: Fished this weekend on south end of lake. Cold front screwed it up a little, but did manage to find a pretty decent bite on some of the rock piles. Highlight of the trip was a 4+ smallie on a green hula grub in about 10' of water. When it was a few feet from the boat, saw a giant sm trying to take the bait from it, easily a few lbs bigger.

Tips: Best bite was in the middle of the day fishing jigs and hula grubs off the rockpiles in the mudline when the skiers had really churned up the water. Tight Lines.
