Report: Just a question really, will you still be able to launch a boat by the dam as the lake level drops ? We were there on Monday and would like to come back in a few weeks... the fishing was ok, we caught lots of little bass but also a few nice ones...

Report: Kevin, You are correct that Pardee has the "official" state record smallie. However, I truly beleive that Trinity is the home of the state record Smallie, it just hasn't been caught yet.

Report: Just a heads up on launching conditions. As of yesterday the end of the concrete was 3' deep at the Trinity Center ramp. There is, however, solid shale at the end of the ramp and several years ago I was still launching well beyond the end of the concrete. The Trinity Center Marina and store are still open and will remain so for the foreseeable future. These mountain folk are pretty resourceful and I expect the North end of Trinity will be very usable for some time to come. Remember the lower the lake, the more concentrated the fish are.
    City: Trinity Center

Tips: The topwater bite for small fish, with an occasional toad, has been great. Cranks have been working well. I haven't found the deep fish yet but I'm working on it. They are running out of places to hide.

Report: Hey guys, sorry I haven't posted lately, the computer age has pretty much passed me by. The d*mn thing just won't cooperate. Anyway, the last Jason Fisher Tourney is this Sat the 12th. It's another "Take a Kid Fishing" event. It's a team format, but a 3rd team member is allowed if they're under 15. We'll have a little kids tourney after the weigh-in where the kids will be able to win a really nice Rod-Reel combo. So bring your kid(s) and let's have some fun. I'll be at the Trinity Center ramp @ 4 AM to take sign-ups ( only $40.00) and the Fisher family will be hosting a BBQ after. What more could you want. If you need more details, give me a call @ 530-623-4352.
    City: Weaverville

Tips: If you can't make it this weekend, just go ahead and take a kid fishing anyway.

Report: Steve, I talked to a buddy that fished last weekend and caught good numbers. Not any huge fish but a lot of smallies from 1.5 to 3.5 lbs and even 1 LM over 5 lbs. Fish shallow and dont be afraid to throw topwater early and late. Mid day I would fish plastics.
Good Luck Steve, CATCH AND RELEASE!

Tips: If you want to eat these fish please don't keep the fish 3 lbs and up. Too many people are eating huge smallies out of Trinity, and it won't take long before this lake will begin to show the affects. If I'm going to pay upwards of $4-$5 gas to get there, I would love to know I will still have 3-6 pound smallies and 3-8 pound largemouth to catch.

Report: Just a reminder that the next Jason Fisher Memorial Vocational Scholarship tournament is coming up May 17th. It's take a kid fishing time guys. A 3rd team member is allowed as long as they are 15 or under. If more of you don't start bringing kids, I might make it mandatory that there is a junior in the boat for the June and July tournies.
    City: Trinity Center

Tips: Trinity is pretty much on fire for those in the know. The fish have moved shallow and are munching. Remember there is a 2 fish limit right now, and I have it on good authority that enforcement has being stepped up.

Report: Fished last Thurs and Fri. Thurs was tough, only 8 fish, but Fri was a blast. Still slow but an 8 lb LM and a 5.5 lb smallie before 7 AM helped make the backseater very happy. Ended up with a 24 LB 5 fish limit. Today (28th) was horrible. 2 small fish, and smallies on beds everywhere in the afternoon. The only problem was that the usual Trinity PM wind started about 10:30. The other problem is the that there is a cold front expected here tomorrow, which will probably put the smallies back down for a week or so.
    City: Weaverville

Tips: Larry... Next time you head up here give me a call. I know I'm known as dinker John, but I might actually have some good advice.

    Water Temp: 50-57

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I was able to tag along with a friend - visiting beautiful Trinity Lake on Fri and Sat. He was there 2 weeks ago and did very well with a few smallies over 5 lbs. No so this time. While the scenery was breathtaking with new snow all over the surrounding peaks - the cold weather didn't help the fishing. In one day (Fri) it went from cool (very cold in the morning) to very warm the next (Sat). Friday we did very poorly, catching only three - he did have a nice smallie over 3 lbs. Sat was a new day and a new set of willing bass. We caught 19 or 20 bass - half smallies and half largies. Biggest were largemouth barely 2 1/4 - 2 1/2 lbs. We were casting a variety of slow sinking baits (Senkos, flukes, etc.) to cruisers and once in awhile one would take it. We saw several big bass but they were not interested in anything we had to offer. The bite seemed to start about 10 am. Most of our fishing was done at the north end.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Since I don't get to this lake very often - (twice in the last 25 years!), I am not one to offer tips. Even when I fished it several times in the early 80's, I always have had a timing issue - never there at the right time. Yea, lame excuse, but true! This lake is probably like most in Nor Cal - the bass can't figure out when spring arrives. We caught most of our fish on flats and walls with an attached flat. Not much action on steep structure or stumps.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Got to Trinity at 730 with my Buddy Dare and we started to fish flats with humps on the southern part of the lake. Got our first 3lb smallie on a tennesse shad crankbait in about 4 foot of water. Decided if they were hitting the crankbait, it has to be a good jerkbait bite. So threw the jerkbait for another 16 smallies all 2-3.5lbs. It was a cold windy, windy day, but the fish fell for the jerkbait in several different colors and styles. The key was to pause it for about 2 seconds then Bam!
    City: Orange,Ca

Tips: Throw Jerkbaits in 2-7 foot of water near tree stumps and pause for about 2 seconds between your normal cadence!

Report: Here are the results of the 2nd Jason Fisher Memorial Vocational Scholarship Tournament. 1st place to Milovic and Richards. They weighed in a 22.26 lb sack that included a 6.41 Lm. 2nd was Sam Hunt and Jeff Olsen with 3 smallies and one LM for 17.61. 3rd was Brian Taylor and Mike Bently with 16.90. 4th was Shawn and Rodney Maples with 4 smallies that weighed 16.35. They also had smallie lunker at 5.30. A little better turnout this time with 12 teams. These are fun tournaments on a fun lake. Come on up May 17th and give us a try.

    Water Temp: $7-50

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Sat April 5th is the next Jason Fisher Memorial Tournament. I'll be taking sign-ups starting at 5 at the Trinity Center Ramp. $40.00 entry fee gets you a $5.00 Smallmouth Lunker and a $5.00 LM entry. Bring kids! I'll have a separate weigh-in for the kid's biggest fish, and I'll have some great tackle box prizes for all kids who fish. This is a fun tournament and it supports a great cause, so give me a call 530-623-4352.
    City: Weaverville

Tips: I got out today for the first time in what seems like months. Even though the water has cooled from a couple of weeks ago, the fish have moved pretty shallow and are munching crankbaits. I wish it hadn't taken me so long to figure that out. Now you know where to start.

Report: The 1st of 5 Jason Fisher Memorial Vocational Scholarship Tournaments was held yesterday the 15th. Although the day started out a little nasty, the weather cleared and a warm calm day was enjoyed by all. 8 teams entered and 4 weighed fish. 1st place went to Dave Richards and Rob Milovic with 4 fish for 19.57 lbs. They also had LM lunker at 5.98. In 2nd place were Brian Taylor and Mike Bentley. They weighed 4 LM for 14.05 lbs. Not bad for the 1st time on the water this year. 3rd went to Terry Sexton and Tim Coyle with 4 smallies for 9.87 lbs. They had a 3.2 SM lunker as well. I want to thank those who made the effort to attend. We had teams from the coast, Redding, and Red Bluff. Hopefully the weather will be a little nicer for the next event which will be held April 5th.
    City: Trinity Center

Tips: Trinity kept it's reputation as a trophy fishery alive as the average of the fish weighed was over 3.5 lbs.
