Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Memorial Day weekend was a lot of fun even though the weather wasn't the greatest. On Sunday I went out with Dan and he was using a "Speed Trap" lure with a feather hook on the back. We were trolling in about 35 feet of water and he said he was snagged. I felt he wasn't snagged and told him just keep reeling you've got a fish. He landed one of the largest trout of the season (see photo). It was pretty windy on the main lake so we looked for shelter in a cove and switched to fishing for bass. Bill took three people out for me and limited out in salmon and trout. He told me the wind was pretty bad and they fished in 35 to 45 feet down. My friend Jory was fishing the shoreline in my favorite cove and told me he was using a watermelon colored senko with brass and glass and caught a huge largemouth bass weighing in at 10+ pounds (see photo). I'm looking forward to this coming weekend the weather should be a lot warmer and the fish will be more active.
      'til next week...................................................................good fishing!!!!!

    • Water Temp: 67-70

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: A client and I tackeled the Bar yesterday in mostly windy conditions - the 4 day in a row of north and south winds. Fishing was very tough except for the zillions of small bass. We started about 9 am and fished 'til 5. Around noon we found a school of good fish that would take a swimbait. I was able to bring a near 6 lb spot to the net. She took a large 6" trout colored swimbait. He broke off one, missed one, and I missed 3 or 4. That action only lasted about 45 minutes as the wind became difficult. We used many colors of Robo worms, Netbaits, and Power worms. Oxblood-red flake was the best color. Only 1 on a Senko. Even the small bass were 25 to 40 feet deep

Tips: Hard to give tips on a day like yesterday. Weather is weird with rain forcast for Monday afternoon. Lots of clouds with the wind yesterday also. Just didn't feel like good "bass weather!!" We did cover a lot of the lake - some trees still in the water - but lake is slowly dropping.

Report: my bud spOnge and I had a good day on thursday. The best part of seeing many shad balls all over the lake. I have never seen this much shad anywhere, with the exception of Clear Lake. With this much forage and all the grass, it should help this fishery.
On to the catching; Most of the shad balls had fish on them, but many of them wouldn't bite. We did catch some nice spots, smallies, largemouths and squawfish(?) on some of the shad. And in some areas, there were fish nearby. Didn't find a honey hole, so we moved around alot and action was steady. The day was pretty nice except for some gusting winds. We fished form 8:30-6:30 and boated about 40-50 fish up to 4lbs.
      City: orinda

Tips: We caught them on jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, and plastics. Later when there was shade, poppers on top worked as well. Couldn't pattern the fish as they were only active if there was shad nearby. Fish your favorite baits down to 12 ft and cover water. Keep an eye on the water and your graph. Only pay attention to the Grieves that go down and come back up in the same spot. spOnge and I found more shad than dem birds.

    • Water Temp: 70 - 71

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: My buddy and I took our annual two-day fishing trip to Clear Lake. On both days, Monday - 5/20/13, and Tuesday - 5/21/13, we launched out of Lakeport. Midmorning Monday, we headed south. The lake was calm and by afternoon, it got pretty warm out. Fishing was tough but after a couple of hours with no fish, we found fish in shallow water in coves with docks. The fish were on beds or roaming around the beds. With patience and a drop-shot rigged RoboWorm dropped into their beds, we could get the fish mad enough to finally take our worm fully into their mouth. Before this, the fish would only pick up the end of the worm as many as 5 times and spit it out. We ended the day with 10 fish between 3 and 5 lbs. Almost all were caught sight fishing. We did see some large schools of very small fry. Thus, the bigger fish have finished spawning and have already moved to deeper water. On Tuesday, the temperature dropped significantly and the wind was really blowing hard. Going north gave us some protection from the wind. Because of the wind, it was difficult to sight fish. However, we used the shallow water pattern that we had found Monday and blindly cast our drop-shot worms to similar areas. By late afternoon, we had about 20 fish. Almost all were between 3 and 5 lbs. Our best five fish for each day weighed a little better than 18 lbs.

    • Water Temp: 70-72

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Hey - I can do almost as many reports as Tom does - LOL! I took a father/daughter team on a donated 4 hr trip. He was a very senior citizen but still could put the bait out there! AND - he only catches largemouth! Yea - we only went a little ways up the north fork and he caught the 2 largies - one just under 15". She didn't do very well - missed some - but landed the ones I hooked. Bite was slow with the delta breeze (wind!) hampered their ability to feel any bites.

Tips: I've ALMOST had my fill of wind this spring. It only blows the day I am on the water. Anybody heard that excuse before??? Experienced bassmasters can handle it, but it is tough when trying to help folks on their first bass trip. We had a great time though! My client is probably saying - "hey - there are largemouth everywhere!"

    • Water Temp: 67

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Started at 3:00AM Tuesday morning. Did very well boating 14 fish in the 4-6.0 lb range. Fish were active, the wind was pretty harsh limiting our choice of spots to fish, They were hitting on Jigs, 1/2 to 3/4 oz, brown head, brown purple skirt, sweet beaver trailer(oxblood, brown side up) They were 15-20 ft deep, Our biggest was 7.5 with the best 5 going a little over 32 lbs. Tuesday afternoon & night, we couldn't go out on account of the wind. I felt it was not worth it the wind was terrible! We were fishing south, next time I run into harsh wind, I might tow the boat to Lakeport & see if it's better north as we usually fish south! Went out Weds Afternoon, caught 5 fish in the same range, with the biggest going 7.2 lbs. Went south of Konocti & ran into 4-4.5 ft rollers. Man I was glad for the Champion! Found a cove to duck into, took a deep breath & made it back to Konocti! Came off around 7pm went back out around midnight when the wind lessened, played duck & hide & managed another 7 fish 2.5-5.0lbs. All on jigs! Went out Thursday afternoon & night with the results very similar to Weds. Stayed mostly in Konocti around Richmond to shield from wind fishing 8-10ft. Caught a few Senko & Texas fish, but still hot on the jig!

Tips: Hide the best you can from the wind. They were biting, but sometimes you had to watch your line or set on pressure cause bites were hard to detect in the wind. Be careful out there~

    • Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Launched about 6:30am at Lime Saddle and fished the west fork, off the lake just before noon. Great start, second fish 16". Dana got 8 spots, me 14 spots. Bite was great till about 10am then the wind blew hard and we couldn't get much going except for One I lost when he went under the boat, jumped and through the hook. Larger then the 16" for sure. Tried a few more location and gave up with the wind too hard to hold a boat for us. Fished roboworms in browns, Texas style. We had many jumper fish today, no idea why?

Report: Fished Salt Spring on a last minute trip for the first time. Arrived at the lake around 11:30 off at 4:00. Fished the North end of the lake back around to the dam. Caught around 20+ fish from 1.5 to 4.6. used kvd 1.5 in craw and bluegill pattern , The bluegill was getting more bites craw better bites. Also thru a LC pionter 100 for around five fish all 2.5 to 3 pounds. Caught my biggest on a blade 4.0. Fatherinlaw caught the biggest on kvd 1.5 in bluegill a 4.6. All in all for the first time on the lake i was impressed with quality of the fish and boy they pull hard. Can't wait to go back and try the frog looks like it would be a good frog lake. Had 16+ pounds not bad for a first timer. Seems like a fun and Cheap lake to fish.

      City: Lee Vining

    • Water Temp: 74

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fished with my buddy and his two six year old twins. I was a busy man untangling lines and retying drop shots.

I was however able to show the kids two fish.

Tips: I got them both on wind blown rocky shoreline using a jig crawled along the bottom in about 6 feet.

    • Water Temp: 69-74

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I had a wonderful guide trip with a father and two sons - 11 and 13! The boys caught bass before their dad did! We started about 6:30 am in the main body - fishing shady walls. After the sun got higher, we moved to the middle fork - my hangout this year! Bite was still good but the size suffered. Where was the big north wind that was predicted?? Finally - about 11 am - whitecaps! I put up the sail and let the Minn Kota guide us! The great wind bite was on and the size went up too. Dad even caught a 2 3/4 lb largemouth - already spawned out of course! We wound up with approx 60 bass - mostly over 13 inches and 5 or 6 over the old 15" slot. Watch out tournament folks - these boys are good!!

Tips: We should call this a Robo trip since we fished worms the whole trip. Senko bite didn't happen and it was just easier to have them Texas rig their worms. Our three best colors were MMIII, morning dawn/chartreuse tail (yes, the yellow tail is back!), and best of all during the wind - oxblood-red flake. They were on that worm in the afternoon!! In spite of the lake dropping, most of our bass were 5 to 25 feet deep. I saw lots of suspended fish on the meter. Summer must be close!

The fishing is getting better and better each day. The water this past weekend was crystal clear and the temperature was around 77 degrees. The fish are very active and feeding on the big balls of bait. At one of my favorite points Kevin and Dominic went swimming and about fifteen feet from them was a ball of bait and trout jumping all over feeding on the bait. It was a great show. They got back in the boat and we went through this feeding frenzy and they landed a couple of nice trout (see photo). We saw more bait activity and threw the lines in that direction and ended up with a nice four pound bass that Dave netted (see photo). The day before Leo and Markey went out with me and caught trout and a good size bass (see photo). Albert and I had a successful day with Albert catching a 2+ pound crappy (see photo). 'til next week.............................................good fishing!!!!!

    • Water Temp: 70-74

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: I took 2 good fishermen out of Red Bud Tuesday afternoon/evening - their first time on the lower lake. The trip was blown out from the moment we launched the boat. Worst wind I have seen in over a year. We could fish the mouth of Cache to Jago - and that was it. And I use the term "fish" loosly. The distance between the swell tops was amazing, but never speared one in my Ranger 521. My clients were good stiks and landed several bass to 5 lbs 7 oz. Ater dark the wind seemed to get worse, so we did what we could. The bite really died at night, but I was happy for the success we did have.

Tips: Obviously - did not look for spawners - that wasn't the purpose of the trip. One of the fellas got the 5 on his own favorite spinnerbait -on the outside piling of a dock. A bass crunched that bait at night over by Indian Island, but he miss her. Would have like to see that one!! Battered and seasick - er, lakesick, we made it back safely! I was still rockin'and rollin' all the way home! Great guys!!

    • Water Temp: no idea

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Launched at Lime Saddle about 6:30am, fished to just a tad past noon. Great morning fishing. Dana got 15 spots, me 25 spots. Largest 15", many in the 14" range with a few in the 12-13" range. Seems fish size got larger this trip. Fished roboworms Texas style, fish found in 10ft to 25ft range. Saw one turtle out on a rock, had no idea turtles were in the lake. Found out the lake is dropping just shy of 1 foot a day, according to a fish and game lady doing a survey of caught fish by the ramp. At that rate, won't be much left after summer. .

    • Water Temp: not sure

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Shoreline report: Ran my dog at Dike 8/Folsom Point just down below the picnic tables. First cast with monster shad colored senko...tic tic tic... 13" smallie. Continued along the point and rocky shoreline throwing the senko and just letting it settle to bottom...twitch a couple times, bring it up and throw again. Picked up 2 more spots about a lb each. Was a decent morning running the dog.
      City: folsom

Tips: None. I just took a rod rigged with a 5" senko and worked the shoreline while I ran the dog. But I'm thinking they're still hanging around rocky shoreline and rockpiles. btw...monster shad senko is something i came across at monster tackle....supposedly a special color made for them by yamamoto..comes in a gary yamamoto pkg. work at folsom and delta.
