Water Temp: 78.5
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Picture of bigbadsid fishingconnection.net
This past week has been excellent fishing for bass. Last weekend I went out with my family on my son's boat and we fished the east side of the lake where I had not been for awhile. The water was calm and we were able to drift from deeper water into shallow water while casting and retrieving crankbaits. The water was very clear and we were able to see the top of the grass and the bass swimming into and out of the grass. Lighter colored crankbait worked the best. You could see the bass chasing the lure. My daughter-in-law cast out between two grass clumps and was hit hard by a 4+ pound bass which she successfully landed (see photo). Then I cast into the same area reeled fast to get the lure down and slowly reeled in toward the boat and saw the bass explode on the lure and landed him. Early morning fishing was best with top water lures. I trolled on the way back to the launch ramp and was whacked hard by what turned out to be a nice 3 pound trout (see photo). 'til next week......................good fishing!!!

Water Temp: 70-72
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Launched 6am B&W, expected to see more but not a lot of boat trailers. Started out on the tules in the Moke; a little windy and picked up some dinks. Tried the rock wall and picked up some keepers but nothing big; crankin lipless and shallow divers in crawdad as well as white with black back. Continued to fav hotspot and picked up a few more 1 & 2 lbers but considerably slower than the prev day's fishing. Went back and forth from various fav tules and rock wall sections and picked up more 1 & 2 lbers and also watched a very large 4-5+ lber follow a small keeper...then noticed about 2-3 others around it. Tried to immediately follow with cranks and senkos but they wouldn't take. Ended day with maybe 18-20. Cranks and senkos mainly.
City: folsomTips: Not much to offer, just kinda tried crankin', then went back over and worked senkos. then back to crankin' and each time got bit, but nothing hot.
btw, my truck was vandalized and attempted break-in at B&W so watch out. Sac Sheriff Deputy responded and left a card on my windshield, so someone obviously interrupted the low-life scums and reported it. I came back to a broken rear window and both driver/passenger door locks/mechanisms disengaged. But nothing stolen. We launched at 6am; report said they responded at 7:24am...barely an hour and a half after we launched. For the next few launches, I think we're gonna return every hour or 2 just to check. ...and lord stay my hand if we catch someone. Whoever reported the break-in, THANK YOU!! I'da done the same!! -
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Launched at Rivers End and fished from 7-12. God was it windy!!!! Couldn't fish any of the areas I wanted to. Ended up with 13. Caught them on cranks, senkos, drop shot 1 on a frog and a beaver. All but one were rats. Never fished that far south. Awsome looking areas for flipping just to damn windy today.
City: LafayetteTips: Before you take your boat out, please know how to run one. Had to tow a ski boat into today with 4 mid twenty yr olds on it. They said they had way to much oil in their motor and when I told the guy to clip the tow rope on his bow eye he asked me "where is that" all I could do is laugh. Good luck fishing everyone

Water Temp: 75-78
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Darn!! This would be the perfect report if I hadn't broke off a trophy largemouth right before dark. Why I still was using 8 lb test - I don't know. My client and I decided she was 7 - or bigger. Anyway, the trip was about my client - a good fisherman on his first night fishing adventure. He says he didn't even know about night fishing until I suggested it to him a few weeks ago. He caught 4 of our five big bass - his biggest largemouth at 4 lbs 10 oz. His biggest topwater bass was a 3 3/4 lb largemouth. In addition to his other 2 other good largemouth, I caught a 4 lb 2 oz spotted bass about midnight - my biggest spot ever at Berryessa. It was a quality late afternoon/night trip with quality bass and a stunningly beautiful full-moon night. Now - about that one I lost.....!!
Tips: We fished several areas in the main body only and found the bite to be somewhat slow - but consistent. In spite of his good trip - he did miss several fish. Most of our action was on main lake points or submerged steep drop-offs and ledges. Average depth was 10 to 25 feet. Bass seem to still be in post-spawn mode as there was no sign of any fish chasing bait and only heard 2 fish surface during the whole 7 hrs. The big fish was lost on a black 7" Berkley Power worm and all the after-dark bass were caught on that bait. It is my favorite summer bait at Berryessa.

Report: Launched out of River's End around 6:30AM. Fished the sloughs around Clifton Court and Coney Island until 2PM. At one point ran up to the tule beds around the train tracks and caught a couple dinks on weightless green pumpkin senko. Marking fish everywhere but could not get them to bite. Threw LV500/150, LC Flashminnow, A-rig, chatter bait in bluegill pattern and senko mentioned above. Is anyone else doing better around this area?
City: San MateoTips: Don't fish with/around me. I'm bad luck apparently.

Water Temp: 69-71
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: launched b&w 630am; a few bass boats ahead of us. started around the bend on the moke. water was colder than last week...69deg... had 1 bassboat with some cool guys who just chatted up with us a bit...they had just lost a good one. then they moved across to work the rock wall. my bud and I continued on down past the first dock and on to our fav tule islands....a few dinks but nothing...wind was really picking up. managed 2 good keepers and about 5-6 almost working a lighter crankbait (little mini speedtrap) on spinning gear right up against the tules....cranke twice as soon as the bait hit the tule wall, then stopped and waited...if I didn't get hit, cranked 1 or 2x and would get hit. the earlier bassers came across to us about an hour later and said it was wide open along the opposite rock wall. they reached in and showed us a nice 2-3lber, one of many they said. they went back and we moved on to same side but further down. only managed a couple of barely keepers. so we moved up to sycamore but nothing there...wind was still crazy. moved out to the main slough outside of sycamore and picked up a solid 3lber on blk/red flk senko. decided to move back to main moke and whaddya know, the wind throttled back so we worked some fav hotspots for a total of about 30, about a dozen and a half keepers...water at this point was 71 degrees, still not warm like last weekend but sun was out and it got em movin' around. I even picked up 2 at 1 time on my Jackall Aragon jointed squarebill.... 1st one hit, then 2nd one tried to take it away....lots of fun!
City: folsomTips: if crankin, throw right up against the tules and just crank 1-2x and stop/pause, the slow roll or crank a couple times. if they're in those tules, they'll come out and take it. also waited for the warmer late morning early pm to throw cranks against the rockwalls and posts....many bass had crawfish in their throats and were bloated from feeding. you'd think they were still ready to spawn .... even the 1-12 inchers looked like they had eggs, but it was just a fat belly from gorging on craws.
ok, well, hope all the pro-ams out there aren't laughin' at my report....but it's what got us some fish on the hook today....a good day.

Water Temp: 70
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Launched at 8 when the ramp opened. Missed whatever top water bite there was. Threw rebel pop-r anyways on the east side across from ramp near the trees but no luck. Partner got a dink on Rapala floating jerk bait, green olive herring pattern. Cranked the shore with shad pattern 12' diver but no bites. Hit the point just after the no wake zone at the north end. Marked a bunch of fish but no bites. Pitched the weed bed just after the point, still no bites. Jerk bait on the dam with flashminnow, got bit but he spit it out! Water was gin clear up there too. Hit the inlet at the north end and got a couple bites but no hook ups.
City: San MateoTips: None. Got skunked!

Almanor Lake
-
Water Temp: 65-70
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished with the family for a few days last week; first time at Almanor. Wind and a smallish boat kept us from exploring much of the lake, so we spent most of our time along the rocky east shore near the dam. Best day was Tuesday when the 3 of us boated 33 smallmouth. Nothing big -- up to 1.5lbs, but still fun, especially for my 10-year-old who caught 15 of them. Most came on various shad-colored dropshots (Baby Bass and Hologram Shad Roboworms, Baby Bass Crosstail Shad, etc.)
Best fish of the week was a 3-6 smallie I caught from the dock in front of our cabin on a Ghost Minnow Pointer. Surprise of the week was a 2.5lb Brown Trout that grabbed a Margarita Mutilator dropshot.
City: ForesthillTips: Dropshotting in the rocks -- bring lots of weights!

Water Temp: 75-78
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Monday morning is not my favorite time to guide in the summer, but 2 anglers from Texas - visiting California for the first time - needed to go Monday. Turned out to be alright for our 6 hr trip. After a few small bass, one of the fellows nails a nice 3 1/4 lb largemouth. I was throwing a small Berkley Havoc bait off to the side of a rockpile while they were fishing the top. I got a great bite and was shocked to hook a good fish - thot I was at Clear Lake! Turned out to be a 5 lb largemouth! What is going on??? The bite kept up for awhile as we landed about 10 bass - best 5 around 17 lbs! Nice!! They were excellent anglers too. Another trip Tues morning with a big weather change - cold wind and much slower bite. One of the guys did land an impressive (and beautiful) hybrid bass (smallie-spotted) about 2 3/4 lbs. Great coloring in this fish - I got a good photo. They missed several bites (lost one or two nice ones) in the wind and wound up with only 7 or 8 bass. Hard to find anywhere to get out of the wind. As they say - what a difference a day makes!
Tips: My clients did some drop-shotting but the bass seemed to prefer a Texas rig. Bites were easier to feel Texas style in the wind - they had to suck it up. We found most quality bass on off-shore structure and points. Nothing on walls. Clay banks with small rock were best. Two of my favorite areas produced nothing! Saw some bait on main lake points and lots of suspended fish. Almost spoon time??

Clear Lake
-
Water Temp: 68-75
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished the 4 days after the WonBass open. Spent alot of time looking for clear water as the algae bloom was getting thick in most areas.Caught fish on whopper plopper where the weeds haven't broken the surface. Frogs worked in the late morning but bite died after 1 for some reason. Dropshotting MMIII caught a number of fish.Jig bite is iffy but got a 7 on green/purple.
Tips: Fish soon. By August you'll be able to walk accross the lake on the weeds. As stated below,
if you caught fish on a lure here before try it again. It will probably work. Most of my fish were relating to tules.

Del Valle Lake
-
Water Temp: 72.6
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Went out with the family so didn't get on the water until 10:30. Didn't have high expectations. Tucked just inside of a cove on the south side and marked fish the whole time. Threw orange belly craw lipless, green craw Strike King 3XD and LC MS Shad (can't remember the model but dives to 20'). Nothing. Marked fish all along the shore especially at the mouths of pockets, cranked the damn then the trolling motor quit so headed in.
City: San MateoTips: Can't offer any tips as I haven't caught anything at Del Valle yet. Will hit it earlier next time though.

Amador Lake
-
Water Temp: 76-82
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: I fished alone Thurs late/afternoon 'til about midnight. The overall bite was pretty good before dark and slow after - though it might have gotten better after midnight. I caught about 15 bass up to near 3 lbs - most of them around 2 - 2 1/2 lbs. I caught a few on snag/proof green frogs, #301 Senkos, and 10" Power Worms. Also had a fair topwater bite but the north wind kind of killed that bite! I caught bass everywhere except Rock Creek - that arm was dead. I caught a few hrs sleep and started about 6 am Sat morning. Topwater was on! My first on a Storm Chug Bug was a 5 lb 6 oz beauty and the next was about 4 3/4 lbs. I caught a few more on topwater - then Senkos. About 8:30 am - off to the lodge for one of Laurie's great breakfasts!! My best 5 for the 2 sessions was about 17 lbs. Not like the 'ol days - but decent!
Tips: I thought the previous report was accurate. I found the fish about where he had described. The topwater fish were on steeper walls with a little weed under the surface. I could not get a crankbait hit to save my life! Senko bite was on steep banks. I missed a big fish on topwater late in the evening AND again in the morning - once on a topwater and then on a Senko. That would have been fun!!

Water Temp: 72-74
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Took off early 345am to launch at B&W thinkin' plenty of time...ran smack into Angler's Choice tourney so just grabbed a parking spot on the grass and waited for them to take off...noticed majority took off to the right under Hiway12. We launched about 5am and went left to the Moke and our fav tule strips and started crankin' a red craw speed trap; buddy loves to go light like Jarrett E (light spinning 4lbtest) so he was throwin' a little rebel diving crank (like what you'd use for trout). We both were nailin' shaker stripers left and right but no blacks. Moved down to second set of tule strips and picked up some 1lbers and then 15ft from the boat a 4lber hits his rebel...he plays it for about 7-8mins and we boated it. Immediately after he drops it back in, I hook up with a 3lber on a blk/red flk senko. We picked up about 5more each, avg about 1-2lbs...he continued to crank with the rebel and sometimes a red craw lipless, me on the senko and sometimes the speedtrap. Picked up a 22" striper on the speedtrap. Went to sycamore but water is muddy/stained all over there unless you go way in but we didn't connect so we moved back to the Moke and continued to slam the 1-3lbers at various areas of the tules. Fish were full of crawdads and hittin' cranks...I even downsized to a small Rick Clunn red craw square bill and we just had fun on the light tackle. My power drive trolling motor steering died (I know, better to have cable) so we called it a day about 2:30pm.
City: folsomTips: Since the ratio of hookups was about 3 or 4 to 1 in favor of my bud, I downsized and found them nailin the small baits...even the almost keeper stripers we got (5 were 17.5") were on the small cranks. After seeing small fry, crawdad tails, and pinchers stickin' out of the small bass we were getting, we knew they were on a feeding binge on craws and tiny baitfish so we threw smaller cranks. we weren't really concerned whether the big ones bit...we've caught many PBs on tiny baits. we just wanted to hookup and have fun. btw, DFG was out in force and checked us after watching us gettin' slammed by the shaker stripers. They were very cool.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Spent most the day inside and outside of Mildred. Caught 19 fish on 5 types of baits. Texas rigged with brass n glass Yamamoto craw and senkos produced most the fish. Caught a few cranking and on spinnerbaits. Best 5 went 12-13 lbs. Couldnt catch any decent fish.

Report: Fished the Redwood Empire Bass Club tourney on Saturday. We fished in Yorty and Brush creek. Found a little top water action before the sun hit the water catching a 7 & 4 pounders. Then started throwing small swimbaits and flukes. Caught a lot of fish but most were under 12".
Tips: Bait fish were busting the surface everywhere and saw a lot on the graph. Slow roll the baits in 8'-10'. Watch your graph for fish.

Water Temp: 72 am
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: 4 in the boat 2-5# largemouth on soft plastics 2-11' deep. Tried topwater and swimbait early for easy and quality fish but nothing. Had a fatty 8#? come up on my big swimbait later in the day during the huge afternoon breeze but it didn't like seeing me and my boat. A little breeze off and on to move the boat along most of the day and enough bites and size made for an enjoyable day. Saw two other boats catch at least 1 or 2 going down shore before me so everyone seemed to be catching them.
City: dublinTips: Don't dismiss fishing shadows on this lake and use heavy enough line to get them out. I caught them in weeds and wood.
