Oroville Lake
-
Water Temp: 75-76
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: It's inally happened, Oroville has given me a really good day and I must admit that I was a little apprehensive since the weather change this past week but that's all it took to put them back in a bitting mood. Started the morning o working the deep let side going into Canyon Creek, right at the 5MPH marker and just had to throw top water....nuttin' Next it was a brown/orange jig and throwing it right into 25-30' we started getting nice ish. Threw a Pointer 78 and the next 2 casts netted 2 really nice over 15" keepers. Worms, jigs, Senkos, ripping, it was all working and worked without a 6 hour no ish-wait or another bite- day. Finished the day in south ork and equal results until we pulled o just beore the evening bite started. Crazy wasn't it? Lots o ish, lots o keepers and too bad it wasn't a tournament day!
City: WheatlandTips: Since the temp has been abnormally cool, this was a perect day or jigs and dartheads. Work mudlines and we had more success with a 1/4 oz darthead to get us to the 25-30' depth sooner. Want dinks, throw to the bank otherwise stay deep.

Water Temp: 73
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Left Markley Cove at 6:30 am yesterday morning, which seemed more like a morning in early April rather than July. Water temp has to have dropped about 6-8 degrees. I expected to catch a lot of small fish with my clients because of the week of cool weather. but instead, we only caught 13, but the best 5 were nearly 10 lbs, topped by one of my client's 3-5 largemouth at 1:30 in the afternoon. What a way to end the trip! He had just caught a 2-3 largemouth about an hour before. Both were caught on #1 Magic Worms - original green weenie, 4 1/2". Other client had a nice 2-1 smallie on a #62 Magic Worm. The topwater bite turned on at noon - believe it or not!! Water had to warm up a bit I guess. We caught 4 on Chug Bugs, but only one keeper. I intended to fish the main lake, but never made it out of the narrows!! I always target big fish areas, and I think it paid off yesterday. One of the bonuses yesterday was that most of the bigger fish made spectacular leaps out of the water - they were frisky!!! That is a thrill for a guide, as long as the client can keep 'em on!!!
City: Yuba CityTips: Crankbait, grub and jig bite did not happen yesterday for us. The lake has had a bit of bloom - a green tint - at least in the narrows. Should make fishing a little easier. Target isolated brush - it all has some fish in or around it.

Water Temp: 75-77
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Well all I can say is there are a lot of big bass in this lake. Because of all the boating pressure my partner and I were able to catch about a 20# for five fish stringer because of the lack of pressure. My partner put on a show this time and did he ever. Lets see topping the charts was a 6# fish, two 4# fish and a lot of 2 1/2-3 1/2# pounders. Caught a ton of em on plastics in the north but they weren't the ones we were after. Looked for weeds near deep water and fished all around the beds to find these hookless marked fish. The bigger fish were buried in the weeds!!! We were on the water by 1pm as most were getting off. Bummer for them the bite was hot!!! Threw reaction baits to catch the bigger fish, what could be better?!! All baits working but one bait in particular working hands down better. Because my partner figured it out I won't spill the beans. Just can't wait to get out there soon!!! If you see a blue and white Avenger bass boat stop by and I'll help you out. cv

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Had an O.K. time out at Folsom. The bite seemed tough. There was a low pressure system moving through and gusty winds, which made it tough to control the boat. I caught three. One on peanut/butter and jelly colored plastic worm. One on a watermelon colored tube and one on a purple zipper worm.
City: SacramentoTips: I have three suggestions, see above colors....

Water Temp: 72 deg
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished both the 2nd and the 4th of July. Launched out of B&W traveled to Franks, and anywhere there was a Moss bed. Used Buzz baits until the Sun came out. Had a good time with the Buzz bait. (Chart/Blue) Caught 6 on the 2nd and 6 on the 4th. Worked the Snag Proof Frog on top of the mats for the next 6 hours and had a ball. The biggest of the two days was a 4 and a half with about 6 3's and loads of 2's. Brought out a first time fisherman and he had his mind blown once he caught his first fish on a Frog. I used Frogzilla and nailed that 4 and a half on the 2nd. Used Willow/Tandem blades and Crawdad Cranks (Rapala) and flipped Brush Hogs, caught a few but nothing big. My rookie friend hooked and lost about 8 fish on the 4th alone. He would set the hook too fast on the Frog fish or didn't set the hook well enough on the other applications. He had big time fun overall. Had to stay out of the wind or be in a somewhat covered place to avoid it. The pain in the ass Water Skiers and Jet skis provided the usual nuisance but I guess it comes with the territory. Best weekend I have had in years.

Water Temp: 75
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: A friend and I got to Calero around 7pm and hiked around to Miners Cove. We fished spinnerbaits, plastics, and crankbaits. Each of us got a hit on a plastic worm, but that was about it. Water was really warm and there were no boaters out there, so it was nice and quiet. Saw a couple of other guys catch a couple on plastics.
City: SaratogaTips: One guy caught a decent one on a black worm with an orange curly tail. My friend and I were using june bug colors, so maybe that's the difference.
