Report: Just spent 4 days on the Delta fishing for the Viper tournament. The Delta bass are now starting to move to the shallows as the temperature starts to climb. Right now there are an abundance of big males moving onto the bank, especially on warmer days. Las t week provided a wide open bite with the bigger fish really slammin jigs. There was a report from many of the guys who were prefishing, that they also found a good blade bite. This bite was mostly in the areas of Big Break, Sherman, Franks and Mildred, all around the deeper tules. The better fish on jigs can be found in areas near these places that provide a transistion path way to the spawning grounds. Look for long meandering levees that wind and bend providing long stretches of edies with no current Due to El Nino these fish are probably a month behind schedule with the water being below 60 degrees. In some areas you can look for these males to begin staking out their territory in the spawning grounds. The big females should be close behind with the passing of the full moon. Normally at this time of year, we see the first spawn in March. I don't think it will happen until the first full moon of April. This will be good for the bass fisherman as we now will have an extra month to catch some really ni e fish. The next two weekends, we will see some extremely large bags weighed at the WCB & Hook team tourneys as well as the Anglers Pro-am the following weekend.

Report: What a beautiul day to be on the water! Only caught two 1#ers; one o a rocky point in 10' o water and the other o a bush in the back o a cove in 10' o water. Both were caught on a Yamamoto twintail grub, rootbeer w/green lake. Fished deeper withjigs but didn't hookup. I was suprised to see such clear water ater all the rainsand runo. I guess Camanche doesn't have the soil type that muddies the lake like, say, Lake Sonoma has. The lake level is 15' down rom ull pool and drawing down each dy. Don't know when they will stop the drawdown.

California Delta
-
Water Temp: 50-53
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: The Delta was opened to no wake boating last weekend. Took advantage of this opurtunity to hone some rusty skills. Been almost 3 weeks since we've been able to fish the Delta now since the last Redman on February 1st. I was the only boat to launch out ofB ig Break last Saturday and was quite surprised at how well the fish were biting considering the conditions. The wind was howling, rain coming down in sheets and the tides were very high. I caught 14 keepers between 2.5 - 4lbs. The fish were scattered ando n various shallow structure. Caught em all flippin jigs. The water is very muddy everywhere you go. There are very few, if any clear areas, except in the far back reaches of Disco Bay. Keep in mind that this is March, the temp is climbing and the Delta bas is just a regular old bass. He's very predictable this time of year. There are a lot of unpressured fish on the move following the warmer water in anticipation of the pre-spawn feeding frenzy. Although the lakes are slow to hit that trigger temperature,t he Delta appears to be there and fishing for the next 10 weeks should be awsome!
