California Delta

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: First report here I am a Fly guy that has been on the Delta the last 5 years or so. Launched at Buckley and had an hour to kill on the water. Was fishing a large chub/rainbow trout streamer pattern about 7" in length. Had one fish boil right as the fly hit the water and missed him twice. About 15 yards down the bank I hook up to a nice 4.5 LMB. Was the only fish for the night and I was surprised at the lack of birds and Stripers in that area right now.
City: LodiTips: Was fishing a point with the outgoing tide making a nice seam off it. Big fly = Big fish.

New Melones Lake
-
Water Temp: 67
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished the main lake as the baitfish have not made there way to the back of the creeks. caught fish throught the day on jigs and drop shot.In the morning the fish were feeding heavy on bait down in 25 to 30 feet if you have a good graph you can see the fish crashing through the bait, all you have to do then is hit them in the head and they would eat it.We did catch a few on jigs and spinnerbaits.
City: san lorenzoTips: use your electronics if you are not comfortable with them now is the time to go out because the fish are right where they should be, with the bait. keep your eyes peeled and look for the bait around mainlake points

Del Valle Lake

Water Temp: 64 afternoon
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: 2.5#sm and 2#lm on deep diving cranks after 1st bounce off bottom, then ripped in 9-13'. Calm off and on rain 1st half of day so I swung for the fence with large baits and wiffed. Worse, when the big stripers put on a boiling show my arm was too sore to throw but a couple casts to them. Fished 11/2, too, but bluebird calm in a.m. made it tough for me. Like 11/1 fish were feeding everywhere but they wouldn't hit even the little realistic stuff. Couldn't go for reaction bite - arm still too sore.
Tips: That's all I got. Did raise that 10#lm again same point on big bait but no take. Tried with little bait 11/2 and no show.

Bullards Bar Lake
-
Water Temp: 65-66
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: I checked out beautiful Bullards Bar this morning - and found it to be quite lonely!! I only saw one other boat today - and they wern't even fishing! Started with one or two on topwater but that was pretty slow. I started drop-shotting a grape Robo worm and the spots were all over it!! I mean at least 40 in the boat in my half day there. Most were small but a few hit the 2 lb mark. I threw swimbaits a lot with no takers. Around noon I started fishing a #301 Senko with some side weights and caught slightly better quality fish. I worked water from 10 to 70 feet with different baits and decided that the big fish haven't tuned in the fall feed yet. It is raining hard in Yuba City tonight (.82 inches so far). That should get the bite going - I hope!
City: Yuba CityTips: I drop-shotted a Basstrix Flashtrix minnow also and only caught a few even thought bass were spitting up baitfish. They really wanted the worm. Morning Dawn w/chartreuse tail 6 inch Robo worm also worked too! I decided not to loose any crankbaits today on those great stumps!!!

Collins Lake
-
Water Temp: 68-70
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: I made another afternoon trip to test the bite and found it still to be a bit slow. We need some cold nights! I found drop-shotting a grape color Robo worm to be the bait of choice and got a lot of action before dark - about 20 to 30 feet deep. Even though I had a lot of bites, I only landed 5 - but they were nice spots from 1 1/2 to 2 1/4 lbs. I caught one on the east side and the rest on the west side. Had one quality blowup on topwater, but missed her.
City: Yuba CityTips: The coming rain and longer nights should cool the water some in spite of no cold fronts yet. The usual good October bite will be in November this year. I did quite a bit of spooning with no results.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Launched out of Russos and fished around Franks. A pretty steady bite on fish in the 1 lb range all day. Once the tide swung started tossing swimbaits and lipless cranks after stripers and only caught more largies. Ended with 1 shaker.

Nicasio Lake
-
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: I spent 4 days exploring Nicasio the week of Sept 23rd. Got through maybe 1/4 of the reservoir. Had the best success near the dam when I switched to a vintage deep diving crankbait. 8 bass by the dam in maybe 6 hours, nothing over 2 pounds.
Thinking of taking a couple small bass home next time, but not sure how healthy the population is. Less small bass= more food for the big ones, right? I know those damn carp seem to be splashing EVERYWHERE and they're huge.
City: South San FranciscoTips: Bounce your lures off the rocks!Didn't catch a single one on the famous Senko, but people seem to have success with it.
There are some back coves if you're willing to hike, although I'd consider it fairly treacherous and unsure what the rewards are, I only caught one in two days exploring on a Mepps Agila.

Water Temp: 58 - 62
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: New Hope was already packed full by 7:30 (late start) so launched B&W 8am...lots of space. Started around the bend at tule island and dock...water was 58deg...nothing on topwater, cranks, senkos, staysee. moved down to next tule strips...still nothing on our offerings. went up to island at sycamore where the water was 61...and started picking up an occasional dink and a couple barely keepers. went into sycamore, water was 63, and saw some guys crankin' and looked like they were picking some up so gave 'em lots of room and tried the opposite side but only picked up a couple more barely keepers. salmon were rolling all over the place and guys that were fishing for 'em weren't getting any. moved back up to first spot with the incoming tide and picked up some 18" stripers and a couple more dinks.....that was it.
City: folsomTips: None.... our offerings weren't working and like bassbuster says, probably should have changed up when we realized it wasn't just tough, it was just not working! We changed colors more than we changed offerings. Sure hope someone posts what worked!

Water Temp: 67-69
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished from 7:30 till 3:30 and thought I was going to blank until I finally got a bite at 2:45. Did all the fish pack up and move to a different lake!!! I fished from moccasin to the back of woods creek, unsuccesfully I might add! Huge balls of shad everywhere with fish hanging around but I could not catch em'? Any tips?
Tips: dont go to this lake to fun fish this time of year!

Chesbro Lake
-
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: (Going for Catfish)
Middle of Summer(July/August) I was pulling at least a 1 lb. catfish every night from 8:30-9:30, usually biting right at sun goes behind the hills and staying strong until 11. September only yielded many young (9-10" max). It's been slow lately but still getting some bites.
Sardines/Anchovies/Stinky Dip Baits have success
Personal best so far was a 16" 2.5lber out of Chesbro
City: San JoseTips: Anchovies/Sardines work best. Bite is usually best 15 min before sundown and for a few hours after.
Seems like the season is tapering off but there's still reports of bites.

Subject: Fishing with Sid

Had some work done on my boat recently and went out on Friday evening for a test run. Of course I took my fishing poles along. I stayed pretty close to the launch ramp and caught a nice three pound trout I thought I would have some time on the water but before six it was starting to get dark so I headed in. Albert and I planned to go out Saturday. He wanted to leave at seven in the morning and I told him we are leaving at eleven. We were out on the water by 11:30. I decided to troll on the east side to where I believed the bite would be good. As we pasted the three points I usually fish we did fairly well. Trolling at a low speed with my electric motor and casting towards the shoreline using a "rattle trap" and Albert using a "zara spook" we did pretty well. The wind picked up and I was unable to control the boat so I decided to head towards the west side of the lake where there is more protection against the wind. Between the Bureau and the pipes I noticed that the birds were hanging out in about 45 feet of water so I changed course again and headed out deeper. I threw into a bait ball and was hit hard by what I felt was a large trout and it broke my line immediately. Albert threw his lure into the same bait ball and got hit hard by what he hoped was going to be a huge bass. It took him over twenty minutes to bring the fish close enough to the boat for me to net it. To his disappointment it turned out to be a very large squaw fish weighing in at approximately 7 pounds but he said the fight was worth it. We headed towards home with limits of bass and trout just as the sun was starting to set (see photos). 'til next week..................................................................................good fishing!!!!

Water Temp: 71-73
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: I took a client with his young daughter out yesterday, teaching techniques and good fishing areas in the narrows. The weather was, again, almost like summer with mostly flat, calm water. After I got them going, I threw a green pumpkin Berkley Havoc bait and was very surprised to soon land a spotted bass at almost 3 1/2 lbs. Wow! I soon realized their equipment was not really bass worthy - so I discussed and had them use some "bass" rods. The bite was somewhat slow with several fish lost. We caught all spots - some between 2 and 2 1/2 lbs. Several bass and a few trout (or salmon) were chasing bait but were hard to catch. We hooked 2 or 3 but lost them. Lots of bait balls were pretty tight with no bass around them. As is often the case, I assume the bite did pick up after 4:30 to 5 pm, but we were gone by then.
City: Yuba CityTips: The biggest tip, which should be a surprise to no one, is to hit the water after the predicted cold front with rain on Monday-Tuesday. The "fall feed" really hasen't started yet. We want the water to reach (dip) into the mid-sixties. The quality of the bass should improve too.

Camanche Lake
-
Water Temp: 69
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: It was a tough bite for us. One short fish in the boat on drop shot. Other guys also found it tough, with 2 teams with no fish to weigh in. Few limits. Some in club found good fish with winning weight over 15 lb with a 6.7 kicker. Graphed fish, but could not get them to go. graphed bait, got no fish around them to go.
City: SacTips: cover water. They're biting somewhere.... somewhere else for us..... slow techniques seemed to be the flavor of the day....

Shasta Lake
-
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished the pit arm oct 20 midday. Limited out real quick drop shotting off the points of coves. Very little action on the top. Seems like most of the fish were 15-20ft deep.
Fished 6" aarons magic and morning dawn. Seems like aarons caught more fish but morning dawn was catching bigger ones. Most all fish were under 2lbs. easily couldve caught over 50 fish if i stayed on the lake all day.
City: reddingTips: Start upwind from a point, let the wind assist you and troll around the point to the windless side. Work it real slow popping the drop shot down the bank from the point. Make sure to let the qeight hit the bottom and give it a couple seconds before shaking it down again. Fish will be holding just on the other side of the point waiting to ambush.

Amador Lake
-
Water Temp: 70-73
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: I took 2 gentlemen out for a "teach the lake" trip on Wednesday. We started about 7:30 am. Topwater didn't happen right away but did happen around 8 am. We caught several up to near 3 lbs with one of the fellas missing a nice one - 4+ lbs. Bass seemed to come up for the baits out of deep water since most of our hits were off the bank. After that we worked plastics of different shapes and sizes and landed a few more - but with flat water and almost hot weather - the bite was slow. I showed them lots of the Amador structure secrets so as to help them with their future trips.
City: Yuba CityTips: After a nice, homemade sandwich at the lodge, I went back out for about 2 hrs and caught 2 more on topwater, but the fishing was dead. Shad were about 40-45 feet deep and did not appear after the sun set. NO surface activity at all. Obviously, the early morning is the best time to bass fish until the water cools.
