Report: Fished the Chico Bass club tourn.on Saturday.Cold windy blast o and it really did not warm up until ater lunch, at least or me.We ished a pattern that produced 30 + ish the Saturday beore, however the cold ront changed all that. The bad side is we did not adapt and spent the large part o the day ishing an unproductive pattern. The stats or 71 boats, winning weight 10. something lbs., over 30 boats checked in limits o 5 ish around 7-8 lbs, big ish 3.64 or there about, less than 4.0. The ish I caught were on a jig/ 182 double tail grub and pitching to loating trash in the still pockets ater the sun was up. I did loose a nice ish early on a senko, wimpy hookset. We saw several crusers in the 3-4 lb range but they were not locked onto any beds. With the warming weather I suspect thatthe bite will pick back up. All clone spots, where are the smallmouth and largemouth in this lake?
      City: Sacramento

Tips: I would wait till the water warms a little unless you like to dropshot in 35t o water.

Report: The Bass Classics o Santa Clara Valley had there club ishout this month at Oroville and everyone had ish we had a two day tournament with 11 guys posting double limits. The guys that put it together were catching 4 or 5 limits a day Chris Lee won it with 25.75 lbs and the big ish o 4.35 lbs plus he a Ray Martinez had heavy boat o 45.90 lbs. He said that the better quality ish they ound in the deeper water and on points with big boulders as much as 30 to 35 eet deep. They used Green wienee colored worms mostly to catch a 100 ish in two days. The rest o us had a hard time catching more than two or three limits in a day.In second place was Gary Caltigirone with 21.85 lbs he used 1/8th oz. dart head grubs and drop shotting tiny IKA's in a shad color on the wind protected side o pockets on the main lake and middle ork. In third place was Jack Ray with 21.65 lbs. he used grubs or most o his ish also on island in the middle ork in 5-30 t. o water and most o the ish were stacked up on the same spots. In ith was Mike Bugliarello he used hula grubs in 5-30 t. and baby brush hogs. He also used green weinee worms on a 1/16th oz. dart head.In sixth was mysel Mike Espinola with 19.65 lbs. I had a nice ish each day rippin a clown rattling rogue on main lake points and back in a cove with rock piles on lukes and 1/4 oz. dart heads. We ound some ish on wind blown points in the middle ork on blades and we cranked some ish on wiggle wart crank baits in the mud lines.
      City: FREMONT

Tips: The better ish you can catch rippin in the morning and later in the day they drop o to 25 to 30 t. deep on rocky boulder areas and go slow. Try grubs on rocky areas and set the hook on any mushy eeling the bites are very light.

Report: Kris and I ished GCB Invitational. Only 30something boats as another tournament was going on this day. All my usual april spinnerbait spots were dry and we had one dink in the boat by 10am---ouch. See Marty on the water and he's already got a limit-rats! Oh well, just keep slinging. Tried ripping in S ork outhouse cove and have some lookers, but they wont bite. Started splitshotting outside stu(rocks) and still dont get anything. A ew bites, but they dont eel like keepers. Run arther upstream and get lucky w/a 1.6 and 2+ spots. Fish timber above bridge and get a short ish then a 14" ish on a #39 4" splitshot. Fish more steep rocks toward the end o the s ork and never get a single bite. Fish are not biting on the rocks! Head into Mccabe and notice water is 3-4 degrees warmer. Spinnerbait a ish in a tree that will keep. See two guys dropshotting and they claim to have caught 30-40 ish, but none are 15" ish(the other tournament going on today was 15" ish or better). The guy is unriendly and clams up when I asked him what he was doing. He says, as he looks at my spinnerbait, "well, its not a spinnerbait!". Right then, I catch a 2 lb spot and he shut up. I get another 14" ish in a tree on the SB and we start splitshotting and throwing senkos in the back o mccabe. Kris inally hooks his irst ish and it is a 2.25 lmb.....thank you god. That ish separated us rom 20 other teams. As we are ishing out o Mccabe, a boat pulls in 50 yds ahead o us and the guy proceeds to catch a 10.25 lb lmb. Rats, cut me o and nails a toad. He's ishing w/his kid, so I didnt say anything. Start throwing brushog in deep trees and catch several more 1.5's, but no help. Weigh in 9.35 or sixth place. Winner had 20+ lbs or 5 ish. Bigun caught on a senko.
      City: Yuba City

Tips: We only caught 10 or 11 ish all day. Some teams caught 50+ ish, but only weighed 7- 9 lbs. Spinnerbaits work on suspended ish here.

Report: Fished GCB tourney on Sat. Started in canyon creek or a change as I had never ished there in competition. My partner Rich bangs a keeper on a spinnerbait and I get 3 slotish on cranks. Farther out, he catches several more on spiderjigs and dartheads. I cant stick any and his are not keepers, so I made a mistake o heading to Potters as my nephew had said it was "HOT"......mental note to sel, dont try to catch other peoples ish. Rich catches one on a jig in 1.5 hrs. 10am and I have no keepers and he still has one. We make an adjustment ater the og lits and blast to the S ork. Start splitshotting a #39 magic worm on steep walls. I catch probably 12 ish here and got lucky w/5 over 15". Rich catches one more 15" on a spiderjig. Worms got way more bites, but I had to wade through lots o 14.5" ish. Interestingly, all o my keepers and most o my bites came o o 2 shady banks. Others caught ish in sun ater og lited. Fish were not as tight to the bank as they have been recently, with some ish probably being caught in 20'. Tied w/Pat (POL) or 1st.No largemouth weighed in at all.
      City: Yuba City

Tips: Lots o things working or dierent guys. 4" worms get bites. Reaction bite early IF you are in the right areas. Big ish 2.64 lbs caught on ripbait....not by me!

Report: I guess its my turn to leave a report since I am one who reads them oten. Partner and I have been doing real well lately using brown on brown jigs and green pumpkin. I have been using 3/8 oz and 1/2 oz jigs. Sunday ished alot o incoming water and the ish are there, but had to weed thru many slots to get the over's. Partner caught the 3 and 4 lber in the irst hour o the morning, so it sure made the rest o the day very easy. Together we caught about 12-14 over the slot. Some ish shallow (10t) and some deep(30t). The bites have been very sot, many times I lit the jig and they are already there without eeling a thing. And yes I'm using a G- Lommis rod. Partner caught the 4.21 spot and we did not get big ish. (Ouch)
      City: Yuba City

Tips: Jigs seem to get better ish, worms catch to many rats at Oroville. I you eel anything dierent when liting the jig set the hook it's probably a ish. Also helps to have a good partner on any team tournament. Thanks P

Report: Fished O-Ville or a change and the bite was excellent. Got early morning reaction bite, 3 over slot there. Threw cranks 1 over slot on that. Then went to jig 4 more over slot on that. Bite seems wide open, but talked to others that have not done as well . My best 5 probably about 11lbs which is great or O-Ville. Fish are tossing up bait (crawish & smelt) all over the boat. No wonder jigs are working.
      City: Yuba City

Tips: Jigs seem to get better ish, but enjoy reaction stu because it will be over real soon.

Report: Me and my partner started ishing at around 7:00 AM in the south ork. We caught a ew right away on topwater. Baby Spook. We caught a ew more on crankbaits also. We had about 6 ish in the boat by 9:00 and surprisingly about 4 were over the slot. Around 11:00 we moved out to the main body and started throwing Senko's. We didn't have any action or a while but then I caught my personal Oroville best. It was a 4.1 Pound largemouth on a 4 inch brown Senko. We were just ishing or un. Our total or the day was about 12 with 5 being over the slot. A great day ishing or both o us.
      City: Yuba City

Tips: The bass were hitting reaction baits well into the morning. I think the overcast skies really helped. Had a blast!

Report: My partner and I headed to Oroville this weekend in search o the hot bite we'd heard about. Well, the ish were there and they were cooperating.Lunched out o Bidwell Sat. morning with a quick ew on some cranks and topwaters on the main points, but no real pattern. We tried the backs o coves, but the ish weren't there. As we headed up river, we consentrated on main points and the irst cuts and we started catchin' 'em. We split shotted, drop shotted and even caught a ew with the jig. worm colors seemed to blue, green weenie or the amous morning dawn. Jigs were all purple with plastice trailers. Day 1 - 30+ ish all 2lb and under. Fun day.Sun. we launched out o Bidwell again and headed right, looking to change our pattern and ind some larger ish. We again got some reaction bite irst thing, but quickly switched to plastics. We ocused on the main and 2nd points with boulder rubble and quickly ound the bigger ish out deeper in 20-30 eet. small ones were shallow, bigger ones were deeper on the points. Still a mixed bag o smallies, bass and spots. The other thing we did that made a dierence was size up our baits. Color didn't seem to matter, but size did. Day 2 (1/2 day) - 20+ ish; all 2-4lb. Great ending! Thanks to my boat partner (jim) or a great weekend.
      City: redwood city

Tips: try sizing up your baits or the bigger ish. give the bigger guys a big target with baits that have plenty o arms to wiggle. go one ledge out rom the smaller ish too.

Report: I ished the Thursday night tourney with my Dad last night and had a heart breaker. He was throwing cranks the whole time and landing a bunch o dinks. I threw a natural shell tube and couldn't get many takers, but I did get one to bite and when it suraced I almost died. It was 9-10 lbs, and it didn't realize it was hooked until we saw each other. Then it went ballistic. Jumped twice and was ripping me up on my 8 pound test spinning rod. Finally got it to the boat and somehow my dad totally blew the net job and it sounded again. As it came back towards the top, one last head shake threw the hook. I am still in shock....the 400$ would have been nice, but a 10lb class largemouth in Lake Oroville is once in a lietime. I just can't believe he missed it at the boat. What is up with that? I the shoe were on the other oot I would still be hearing him screaming. I guess it is just a one that got away story....
      City: Paradise

Tips: The bite was deinitely slow... The quality ish are scattered it seems, and were not very active. That Hog was hooked in 5t o water hugging the bank in the North ork.

Report: We launched out o the spillway and went to the northork. Started throwing buzzbaits and spinnerbaits with no luck. Switched to rat-l-trap, made about two casts and hooked up with a 19" largemouth. My partner went to rat-l-trap aswell and then he hooked up with a 15 1/2". Ater about ive more casts I hooked up with an even bigger one, at irst I thought I was hung up then it started to move and came to the surace and jumped and the lure came lying at the boat! I was mad but when I reeled my line in the ish had ripped the hooks o the lure!!! We had no luck the rest o the day.

Report: Fishing was very good or numbers on Thurs and Fri. On Thurs, I guided a grandather and his 11 year old granddaughter, and we had a ball. I spent most o the time teaching her how to cast, set the hook, eel the bite (or lack o it), and she did great. She caught seven or eight, and lost a ton. Grandpa got a ew, and I managed a ew - we probably landed 22 or so. Only 1 over the slot. We used morning dawn Magic worms, Texas-rigged, and I caught one or two on a jig. We ished the middle ork. Friday, I think I converted a trout isherman!! He really had never bass ished beore, and in a 6 hour trip, we landed at least 45 - I lost count ater that! Thurs morning the topwater bite was pretty good, but not so good Fri morning. We started throwing the same 6" morning dawn Magic worms about 8 am, and the bite never stopped. It was amazing - usually there is a lull at sometime, but not on Friday. We ished all over the middle ork, but not too ar up, because o a shorter trip. It took him a ew minutes to get the hang o a subtle bite, but soon he was o to the races. He had a ball, and said that he never knew bass ishing could be so much un! He even got one over the slot, and I got a 17 inch spot, unortunately, kind o skinny! Most o our ish, both days, were about 10 to 30 eet deep. Boulder areas were holding a lot o bass, as were the outsides o creek channels.
      City: Yuba City

Tips: Just drag the worm very slowly. No need to shake it. The bright sun didn't seem to bother the ish - the shady areas didn't seem to be any better. Interesting!!
