Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Thought I would try this hot lake (lake record caught last weekend). Fishes very much like oroville (steep rocky canyons). dropshot and splitshot only. Lost more than I landed. Landed 7 up to 3 lb and lost over 10. Most were lost within 5 sec of me setting the hook. A few times broke off but probably due to line rubbing rocks but most times the fish just works its way free from the hook. was using 6 in staight tail worms w/ 1/0 hook. Has always worked well in the past. One thing I noticed is that the fish was already swimming w/ the worm (no feel of the bite) and would set hook. In hindsight, I should have let it swim longer so that the worm is further in the mouth? Anyway, good day for my 1st time in years. scouted the river area and it is serene and beautiful.

Tips: land the fish that bite !!!

      Report: Late report

Fished the Pro/Teen tournament at Russo's on Sunday. It was my first event of this kind and I had a blast fishing with 17 yr old Justin. Was his 3rd year here. Guess he's the vet & I'm the rookie. Anyway, launched out at 6 & hit the tulles at north end of Franks with topwater, buzzbait & poppers for an hr. without hits. Moving to the tulles going towards SJ channel .... still nothin. Then to Venice for some froggin. Did well there b4, but this time only 3 blowups but no hookups. Finally to some rip raps nearby and got several small LMB with senkos inside the weeds with a little current. Unfortunately not big enough to weigh-in. Motored down to Ward Island for more froggin, but again 3 or 4 blowups and couple of missed hooks. Down to the last couple of hours and had to change up. Put all our rods down and switched over to punching the mats. Knew a spot that always produced for me and showed Justin how to punch. He's a fast learner, within minutes he hooks up his first fish about a 2 lber. Unfortunately, he jerked it so hard outta the mat, that it flew over the boat and off the hook. Justin is a big kid (lineman for his high school football team) and took my instructions too literally. For the next hour, we caught maybe 5 or 6 more, mostly small guys again. But finally the last fish was a 3 lber. We didn't do well in the standings but he learned something new and was thrilled and that is all that matters!
      City: San Jose

Tips: Punch. Punch. Punch......especially after the sun hits the water.

      Water Temp: 55-59

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: We fished the narrows up into Wragg Canyon. The main body of water was up to 59. Inside Wraggs we found water as cold as 55. Wraggs had slightly stained water. The Narrows was clear especially by the dam. We were only able to scratch up a limit of small spots. 1 on a tube, 2 on a crank, and 2 on drop shot. Fish were 15-20 deep. As the above post stated, I was surprised more fish have not moved up yet...
      City: Elk Grove

Tips: None, hoping more fish move up soon.

      Water Temp: 50-55

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I fished late Tues afternoon with jigs and ripbaits with no success until just before dark with my first on a Blade Runner jig. I fished about 3 hrs after dark south of the narrows and was 4 for 7, three of them from 4 1/4 to just under 5 lbs. About 18 1/4 - 18 1/2 lb limit. One on a D&M piranha swim jig and the rest on jigs. Average depth was 20 feet - nothing shallow. I had a "learn the lake better" guide trip yesterday. We fish all over from Soda Bay south and found the fishing slow. Thankfully he did catch a few. We looked at the water in Konocti Bay and was amazed at the clarity of the water already - about 6 to 8 feet. Amazing! Upcoming tourney for him, so no more from me!
      City: Yuba City

Tips: Every year in Feb it seems that I am fooled as are a lot of anglers when we get a warm spell in Feb and think the bite will bust open. But water temp rules and the sun penetration in Feb is still only 1/3 of what it is in summer. The warmth of the sun really doesn't change water temp much until mid-March, plus the warm afternoons are longer as the spring progresses. In spite of 72 degree air temp, it is still winter below the surface of a lake. I saw that Tues evening when the surface temp was up to 55 and 3 or 4 hrs later was down to 49-50! Moral - don't rush mother nature!!

Report: Great to see the lake back up! Only mannaged to pull seven off my area that i key on this time of year! Sun came up and seemed like the i could get them to react to the jerkbait in the AM but as the day progressed i pulled way off and used the graph to key in! Got a nice 4 on a jig on a three foot drop off but that was it! Im really curious to see how the Elites do here this Year especially with all the pressure this lake gets this time of year!

Dont forget the things you learned to get to where you are and be respecful to other fishermans water! Its a HUGE lake just move down the bank a hundred yards till they leave! Rip-um!
