    • Water Temp: 59.5

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: If you have not fished this lake, there is a $20 entrance fee for car and boat. There is one ramp with one floating dock so sometimes there can be a delay launching or getting your boat back on trailer. This was my first visit this year.

The water was quite muddy and cold due to recent rains. I started fishing around 8:30 and quit 3 hours later with six bass, the largest was 15". I caught most on a morning dawn and one on a chartreuse grub. I caught them all in shallow water --one in 2 1/2 feet of water next to a tree. My friend Curt was fishing in his boat and he took 5 all on morning dawn. It looked like there were six or seven other boats on the lake but the jet skiers were around zipping around even with the cold water.

      Tips: Fish the bushes...

Narrative:Headed out to Lake McClure today with guide client Jim Williams. Jim was the winner of the MKA Kayak Bass Guide Service raffle. Jim chose to go to Lake McClure to get more acquainted with the Motherlode lakes since he is primarily a Delta fisherman. We started out in the Temperance arm mixing it up with some reaction baits, jigs, and plastics. We quickly identified that they wanted it slow moving and on or near the bottom. Jim picked up two on the dropshot right away off a secondary point close to the bank. The dropshot bite tapered off and then we switched over to the carolina rig and picked up a few dragging lizards, creature baits, and worms rigged with Trapper Hooks on flat points, and cuts near secondary points. We then worked our way out to the main lake and found a good Ned Rig bite. I broke off a nice one (again) near a known spawning area just off the main lake. Jim got on a steady bite and was boating a nice mixture of Spots and Largemouths. We worked our way back to McClure Point fishing the main lake rocky walls, points, and cuts. We got on a steady bite of solid keepers. The wind was really howling and we worked our way back into McClure Point. Jim then hooked a GIANT on the Ned Rig. He threw into the back of a wind-blown cut and she bit. She surged for deep water and then she jumped with a big head shake and spit the hook. I was right behind him and got a good look at her. She was a huge Largemouth that was between 8 and 10 pounds. Jim ended the day with a total of 14 fish in the boat and the memory of that Donkey breaking the surface!

Tips: You can catch steady numbers of fish in the 10 to 30 foot range but the big ones are up shallow. It should only get better over the next few weeks. The lake is almost completely full. This is going to be a great fishing year in the Motherlode.

    • Report: Delta Report…. Dan’s Delta Black Bass Series #3 Launches out of Big Break Marina Sunday April 8th. Along with the Delta’s Best Pro Teams Oakley’s Teen Team Open will run in conjunction with Dan’s Delta Pro Teams bringing Nearly 100 Boats to Big Break Marina in Oakley Sunday.

      Striper, Sturgeon, Bass and More….

      Isleton Fishing Report
Striper Trolling and plug casting has started to recover a bit from the dirty water.. Water temps raised a bit this week and a few more stripers in the Cache Slough area responded. Sturgeon remains the focus here. Diamondback anglers are heading to 41, Liberty and Cache Slough areas with roe and eel reporting success.

      Rio Vista Fishing Report
Trolling is scoring many more Small stripes and occasionally, a 12-15 pounder caught. Savage Prey and P-line Angry Eye lures are key for the trolling anglers. Red White Classic Shimmer jigs around pumps getting stripers. Sturgeon anglers in front of Collinsville or Red Barn still get bit. Shore bound anglers are scoring both species. The best place to score a striped bass or sturgeon remains Sherman Island in the area of the Power Lines, use Lug Worms or Red’s Bloody Eel.

      Walnut Grove Fishing Report
Trolling for stripers cracking the 10 pound plus keeps anglers smiling Brite colors 8 to 10 foot deep is key as the spring push starts up. The Dirty “D” is clearing its name and conditions were improving yet forecasted heavy rain will slow the progression. Stay in the Steamboat area for best conditions. Best bet, Savage Prey and P-line Angry Eye lures. Bank anglers tossing shad and eel prevail for an occasional sturgeon or Striper those looking for bigger bites.

      Discovery Bay Fishing Report
As water temps stabilize in the 60’s the black bass bite is rolling. Bed fish are around. Most Blackie anglers are sticking with Senkos and Tail Slapper swim baits, Wind, Rain and overcast this weekend slow rolling blades and crankbaits searching ledges near sparse tulle flats.

      Frank’s Tract Fishing Report
Had Novice anglers John and Cody out this week, there first ever fishing experience netted them 8 striped bass to 10 pounds. Black bass bite was picking up at a consistent pace til this storm series arrived. Hematoma Beavers on over cast days also working well. We found a few Stripers and Black Bass with 200 S-Wavers and Red Eye Shad. Others looking to score are starting to crank Red-Eye Shad and Big Poppa’s are solid options. Keeper sized stripes are grabbing Savage Glides a bit more this week and trolled Angry Eye baits.

      West Delta Fishing Report
Sturgeon anglers have scored solid numbers of keepers daily in the Martinez and Pittsburg area. The stripers starting to show anchovies and Lug Worms in many areas for bank anglers, Antioch Pier and along Sherman Island rd. Stripes to 14 pounds have grabbed DDO Meizers. Trolling anglers it’s getting started. Chartreuse patterns are the best bet.

Lake is still fishing well! I’ve been out a bunch with water temps in 57-60 degree range with slightly off colored water in the main body and extremely muddy off main body! Creeks have a little color after the storm passed. The third wave of spawning fish are moving up for the next full moon.

Nice report and accurate of the conditions.
I was out Wednesday and done okay with my best fish going a bit over 6# and also losing a beast puching when she peeled line and then broke me off.
I go back out Thursday and I couldn't manage anything over 3# and there were boats all over my area. Wind was awful at times. There was also a lot of debris in the water so be careful out there.

    • Water Temp: 61-64

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I was beaten by a six year old!!! Actually true, but not like it sounds, sorta!! I was looking forward to guiding a six year old young lady with her dad and his brother! I fished some and they fished hard and she beat all of us men with her 3 1/4 lb largemouth. She hooked, fought, and landed the bass by herself. Do I hear junior high bass tournaments?? Fun, fun!! We had another good day at Berryessa and doing some sight fishing for the first time. Water is clear enough to do that. With 4 in the boat, we were limited to mostly drop-shotting Robo worms, and MM111 was again the best color. Morning dawn worked too. Points to the very backs of coves held bass. We stayed in the narrows as I wasn't sure how the little one would do after several hours. She did fine!! Had to be close to a rest room also. Sure glad they leave one in the narrows all year! We found some deep bass also, 25 to 30 feet! We caught 20 + bass with again a nice limit around 14 lbs, all released. Mostly spots and largemouth with a very nice smallie.

Tips: Saw an amazing thing that one doesn't see often. We were fishing a good spot in the early afternoon and saw a few bass close to the boat. Along comes this 4 to 6 lb smallmouth, swimming slowly about 2 feet under the surface. What a sight! She seemed to be fine - don't think anything was wrong with her. This was not in a cove, she was swimming in open water off-shore. This incoming storm will interesting. An April gully-washer with one to three inches of rain. So, how will this effect the spawn? I guess we'll find out!!

      California Delta 4/5/2018
      Water Temp 58-62
      Visibility 1 – 3 feet
      Wind 5 – 10 mph

Technical Difficulties continue to plague me haha.

Saw a front was coming into the area and had the opportunity to make it on the river. Launched at around 7:30 in
      the morning from Sugar Barge.

On Tony’s second cast, he hooked into a meaty three-pounder with a Senko. All indications pointed to an epic day, but the fish had other ideas. The low light and slight breeze on the water seemed like the reaction bite was going to be phenomenal, but after two promising stops and two short strikes, it was clear that the fish DID NOT want a moving bait.

After some more forced reaction bait fishing and getting schooled by Tony and my Father, I finally switched over to a Senko. Almost immediately, bites started to come in left and right. We had a small flurry on a small stretch of tullies, but the bite shut off almost as soon as it began.

The search continued, which eventually led us into the western portion of the delta. I was shocked to see so many anglers on the water for a Thursday. After talking to a couple, they also agreed that the bite was tough.

With the tide now almost bottomed and only a few nice fish to account for, we headed back to Franks to see if we could change our luck. Just as I suspected, Franks was crawling with anglers as well. Attempting to get away from the crowds and do something a little different, we started to throw Senkos at the grasslines. To our surprise, we started to get bit. Small males at first, but then some better females. Best fish went about five-pounds on a Senko with a Tsuyoi Weedless Wacky Hook.

With the day salvaged and the wind starting to pick up, we called it a day and headed home.

Tips: My only suggestion is that “I” can’t seem to buy a reaction bite right now, and that the only thing that will get bit are Senkos. Fishing slow(er) will get you bit.

    • Water Temp: 59 to 63

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: On the lake early and fish some new water for average size fish. Moved over to our honey hole and found good number of fish as did half the lake. As we where passing Rocky point to go to to our area count close to 20 boats. Most fish are of average size with a big fish going 3.5 in this area. Left the heard and found another area less fish better quality. Ended the day with with over 30 fish for the boat and top 5 over 16.5

Tips: Leave the herd and find new water.

    • Water Temp: 57-58.3 degrees, elevation 794.30

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Got launched right about 6:30 am, stopped fishing at 9:45 am. Good news, water is warming up and almost getting to the full on bite. Found 57 to 58.3 degrees and the fish are beginning to come back from where ever they go during the winter. Picked up 12 spots, first fish 1 decent 14", two in a row right at 15", two 14" and the rest solid 13-13 1/2" Had to work hard for them, my best bite this year. 2-3 more weeks and full on bite. Water looking good too, clearing up from the last rains. Guessing this next rain will muddy it back up and slow the warming a fraction. Most fish taken from 25-35 feet. Last picture is the typical of this trip, first two, the 15" fish. Pictures in fishing forum.

    • Water Temp: ???

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Had an awesome day fishing cachuma last week! The fish were up pretty shallow in there pre-spawn areas. Flipping creature baits in the brush and slow rolling smaller swimbaits were the ticket. In 6 hours I managed around 25-30 fish! Nothing over 3 pounds but some solids chunks. Not sure how long this bite will last but I’ll be heading back as soon as possible!!

Tips: Fish shallow early for best results.

    • Water Temp: 60 to 68 F

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Tons of action but no size at Lake McClure today.
      On the water: 7:00 AM
      Off the water: 4:00 PM
      Air Temp:
      Low: 47
      High: 80
      Barometric Pressure: 29.9
Sky: Mostly clear with some clouds / overcast
      Water Temp: 60 to 68 F
Water Clarity: Clear (up to 10 feet)
Water Level: 836.67 as of 3/30, up 0.44 feet from day before
Wind: Very little wind, slight breeze at times
      Moon: Waxing Gibbous (99% visible)
      Fish Activity: Moderate to high
Kayaks: Hobie Outback, Native Watercraft Manta Ray 12, Native Watercraft Titan 12
Lures: Soft plastics on the bottom

Headed out to Lake McClure today with Barry and Will. I wanted to take a look around to see how the recent rains have effected the lake. The lake is really high and the water is clear. There is a ton of debris in the lake so be careful. There are some big logs / branches floating just under the surface that could cause some serious damage. Lake McSwain is down a few feet and is muddy throughout. The Merced River is running high and also muddy due to the rains and the release of water from McSwain. Now for the fishing report.....we launched out of McClure Point and focused our efforts on the southern end of the lake. We found fish on islands and primary / secondary points and cuts. The fish were in 10 to 20 feet of water. They were keying on bottom baits. Hand-poured 4" worms, 6" lizards, 4-6" creature baits, and ned rigs all worked on the bottom and slow. We weren't able to get any reaction or topwater bites. I didn't see any fish on beds in the areas that I scouted. We found a good mixture of largies and spots. Nothing big, just nice healthy fish. I did break one off on a ned rig on light line that felt like a big fish, you all know how that goes. There is more rain projected for later this week with a cooling trend. This should keep the fishing in a holding pattern.

Tips: Be careful if you are headed out to McClure in a big boat. I would keep it slow and keep an eye out for logs and debris. Work bottom baits in 10 to 20 feet of water right now for consistent action. Fish should be moving to the bank soon with a week or two of stable, warm weather.

    • Water Temp: 57-61

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: I did two really fun, good trips to Berryessa on Tues and Thurs. Tuesday I guided a father and his two 16 year old twin sons. In spite of the cold and some wind, we got into a very hot bite between noon and 1:30 pm. When it was over, it was over!! They caught around 13 or 14 quality bass - all 3 species - the boys catching spots up to 3 lbs 10 oz. Best hour of the year - so far!! Their best 5 around 16 lbs! We just fish the narrows as the main lake was too rough for any fun. Robo worms were the top bait, and mostly the same color! I have a great photo that I'll post. As you know - fishing days are not often repeated in the same way. Thursday was no exception. I had 2 clients from the Pacific northwest - outstanding anglers who have fished all over the world! And they caught a ton of bass yesterday, but more dinks than I think I have ever see at Berryessa. They did catch some better bass too, but nothing like what I saw on Tues. Bag bass was a 3 lb spotted bass, caught in the back of a cove, probably searching for a spawning area. We found a big school of bait on my new HDS 12, and bass that unfortunately were only 1 to barely 2 lbs. They were using a variety of their own baits. Bass they caught were from 20 to nearly 50 feet deep.

Tips: It is a rare day to pull into the parking area at Markley Cove on an early Thursday and find the lot full of rigs - only a few spaces left. Wow - a different period of time now! I have a lot of tips, but usually keep my mouth shut or fingers still before a tournament. Good luck out there!

Bite is recovering well as trolling for stripers cracking the 10 pound plus keeps anglers smiling Brite colors 8 to 10 foot deep is key as the spring push starts up. The Dirty “D” is keeping its name and muddier conditions make it tougher. Stay in the Mokelumne area for best conditions.

Most Blackie anglers are sticking with Senkos and slow rolling blades searching ledges near sparse tulle flats. Others looking to beat the clear conditions are starting to crank Red-Eye Shad and Big Poppa’s are solid options. Keeper sized stripes are grabbing Biwaa Strout a bit more this week and trolled Angry Eye baits. Packman A-Rigs also solid options

      Frank’s Tract Fishing Report
Black bass bite is picking up at a consistent pace warm days only helps the Big Girls bite. Sandra Mathisen broke her PB with a 9-8 Black Bass and followed up with a 4-7 next cast Senkos are great options while spinnerbaits get the mentioned as well. Hematoma Beavers on over cast days also working well. We found a few Stripers and Black Bass with 200 S-Wavers and Red Eye Shad.

      West Delta Fishing Report
Sturgeon bite is tougher yet anglers has scored solid numbers of keepers daily in the Martinez and Pittsburg area. The stripers are showing with shad and sardines in many areas for bank anglers, Antioch Pier and along Sherman Island rd. Stripes to 18 pounds have grabbed hair jigs. Trollers it’s getting started. Chartreuse patterns are the best bet.

      Del Valle Fishing Report
Black Bass are on fire with anglers reporting having caught and released up to 12 bass. Most are smaller and in shallow water creating their beds. Best bet is still Senkos, either wacky or traditionally rigged. Also try a plastic crawdad, on either a half-ounce, or a one-ounce football jig head. If you do catch a bass, please release it, as she maybe pregnant. Remember that by taking one bass, anglers could be taking thousands away from the lake, so please, during the crucial spawning period, release any bass caught. Trout have been active this last week. They have been in the shallow water; anglers are having good luck on Power Bait, nightcrawlers, Rapalas, mice tails and Kastmasters. Many anglers have reported catching their limits.

Report: Man it's been heating up nicely all week I thought the bite An the conditions would be on point today but I was wrong big time. Launched at noon from browns ravine An found out the lake has risen 30+ feet in the last 3-4 weeks, I shot straight in lower arm to check out some of my usual spots, after gettin about 1/2 mile in I noticed the whole arm was chocolate milk, filthy! I then checked out a couple spots on main lake but boat traffic was heavy so I worked the upper arm the rest of the day, fished rock walls ranging shallow to deep, flipped trees, shallow flats some with mainly grass An some mostly rocky, fished deep boulders offshore. Light colors dark colors with no success except for my only bite a 2 pound spot slammed my creature in about 4 ft of water. No other fish were on that pattern. I'm not really what the fish do when the lake levels rise so much.

Tips: I'll take some tips if anyone has any to offer

Wow....today was a day of mixed emotions. On one hand I'm ecstatic, caught a 25 lb bag. On the other hand, I feel like a failure, as I only caught 6 fish after seeing................hundreds. Just so happened 5 of them were 5 pounders. Hundreds of fish........you guessed it, beds everywhere. Fish are getting their groove on in full force. It seems like they are just getting on the beds, as I saw many fish still "courting". Male's chasing females in the shallows, then 30 minutes later they settle down on a a bed. Saw numerous fish just floating withing 10 yards of spawning shoreline, getting ready to move in. And ultimately, they were very skittish. Didn't seem to be locked on at all. I was spooking fish left and right. The 6 I caught just didn't see me coming. I "thought" I saw a bed from a distance, pitched the bubba rig and got lucky 6 times over the course of 8 hours. I guess that's why I feel like a failure...lol....I failed ALOT! I caught them all on the bubba rig with an oxblood 6 inch roboworm. Not sure the color mattered. I saw water temps up to 63 degrees. Mostly around 60. This was my first opportunity to see a Delta spawn. I've never seen anything like it. I've been on lakes in the southeast where there are fish on beds everywhere.......BUT I could not have counted the number of 4-6 lb fish I saw even if I tried. Absolutely incredible fishery. And to think in my short time here in Cali, I've heard numerous Delta pro's state that the Delta is not what it used to be. I can't imagine what it used to be. Anyhow, I'm psyched to see the bags that come from the tournaments this weekend. Those fish are only going to get more aggressive every day.

As of 10 am this morning its at 96% with no water been released :D
When this last storm came through it was at 58%

      Thu Mar 29, 2018 5:21 pm

If you know the structure in this lake in 10 to 50 feet of water and as muddy as it is and the color selection of your baits it can be a really good fishing day on the lake.

    • Water Temp: 53.8 to 54.8 degrees, water level 788.55

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Got launched at Lime Saddle about 6:45 am, wood, lots of wood stacked up on the ramp as it always gets when water levels come up. Damn, hate that stuff, worst part is getting off the water!! and not taking home a cord with the boat. Slow, slow bite, good part, water is beginning to warm. Found 53.6 to 54.8 degrees in my travels. about 4-4.5 degree rise since my last trip. Picked up 4 spots, best right at 15", and a surprise coho, small one. Never caught one before, teeth surprised me. Didn't know how to hold them, for sure not like a bass. Water dingy from all the rains. Most fish caught at 30-35 feet or so. Guessing about the mid to end of April, bite will be wide open, it's coming, so be patient. Pictures in fishing forum.

The water level is up about 40ft since my last fish. It’s on the first ramp at bidwell now. All my good holes are under water  water clarity is pretty murky. Made for tough fishing. Should stable out in few days. Jitterbug caught one which he said was about 8” was around 11” by the time we got home. Told him to take a picture, he wouldn’t.

    • Report: by Kyle46N » Mon Mar 26, 2018 9:12 pm

Decided to check out the first day of the run of what looks to be beautiful weather over the next week or so. We were greeted with 20 plus mph winds, with gusts to may as well been 80 mph. Blue bird skies, and a north wind? Where did this post front come from? Anyhow, I went down Potato into White Slough and Disappointment. Everything was muddy to stained. So I kept going and ended up even further down White's. Finally found clear water and what I thought would be a perfect area for fish to get shallow with the climbing water temps, (ended at 59 today). Not much happened. My son caught a three to go along with a couple dinks I caught on a squarebill and punching. We moved to an island in the San Joaquin, only place we could find that didn't have white capped rollers, and started flippin. Not five minutes into it, I put a jig at the base of a Pampas grass bush, and had a 7 lber choke it down. My first Delta giant. Okay, okay....I know that's not a Delta giant, but it's my first Delta fish over six since I moved here this past summer. Felt good to say the least. Well, we couldn't get any more bites in that area, so we went to the back of another slough in the White's slough family, and caught about 10 1-2 lbrs on swimbaits. Water was clear, but with the tide almost out, all we could get was the little guys to chase swimbaits. When we could get fish to eat, they were in a foot or two of water, so I would say a run on shallow water real estate is getting ready to happen on the Delta.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: KBR Member's Tournament (6th. Annual Art Dagamejian Memorial Tournament) was held on 3/24/18. 11 teams hit the water with the hopes of catching a giant! The team of Bill and Connor Oldcorn made it happen with a solid 9 pound plus tank! With all the recent rains the lake is at full capacity and overflowing the spillway. The visibility has decreased to 1 foot with a chocolate stain with water temps from 57 to 60 degrees. Despite the less than ideal water conditions the fish were chewing! Teams reported catching fish on a variety of baits and tactics from topwater to reaction baits to swimbaits to jigs to soft plastics. Most teams reported catching fish shallow in less than 5 feet of water. The big fish of the day came on a chatterbait in shallow water first thing in the morning.

      Results:
      First Place - Bill & Connor Oldcorn - 3 fish - 17 pounds 12 ounces
      Second Place - Brian Bertolotti & Steve Mendes - 3 fish - 15 pounds 14 ounces
