Report: late post... zero strikes. fished at about 12:30 for about an hour and a half... unlike my other times, i brought in heavier gear to throw frogs and heavier topwater baits trying to entice one of the big ones there. nothing. i suspect the heavier line had some effect, that and the new weed growth that was evident on every cast. i still threw the same wacky senkos (fished them slow as before, same locations) after not getting a strike with the frogs... nothing. me thinks line diameter was the culprit. i usually have 4# -6#, and this time i was throwing 12# trilene big game. ...or maybe it was just a slow day... or the fact that i was planning on throwing every fish i caught onto the shore to thin out the numbers- fish gods were listening...
oh, the water is still very low, rains a couple weeks ago haven't helped much if any.
      City: petaluma

Tips: well... i think as light of line as you can get away with. probably 6# at the most...

Report: I took my brother and nephew fun fishing on Saturday. The wind was howling when we launched so we went into Warm Springs and started throwing crankbaits. I got a 2 and a 2.5 right away and my brother caught two small males also. In the meantime my nephew Ian who's 13 years old wasn't catching anything so I brought him up to the front of the boat with me and put my rod down to help him. He was casting a medium diver on a spinning rod with 10lb. Big Game. Within five minutes he yells I got one and proceeds to bring in a beautiful spawned out 6.2 lb female that easily would have been over 8lbs. a month ago. Anyway we were all high fiving Ian and he was so excited catching his biggest bass ever. I will be posting the picture on the photo section soon. Anyway we proceeded to catch more crankbait fish and when the wind died we switched to plastics. We got into some really good fish late morning and afternoon using senko's, worms and brush hogs. We ended up catching 23 bass with the best five going 6.2,3.5,3.2,2.8 and 2.5.I encourage everyone to take a kid fishing and you will have so much fun and get a kid hooked on fishing and not drugs.

The signups will be at the next meeeting Wednesday at 7 p.m. on June 11th at the Rohnert Park Community Center at the corner of Rohnert Park Expressway and Snyder Lane. Water Temp: 62-63

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I fished for a few hours Thurs afternoon, but mostly looking around - finding stumps and rockpiles I have never seen before. The water is about as clear as I have ever seen it - some places are as clear as Pardee - 15+ feet visability. West side was dingy in some places because of the north wind. I did catch two about 2 1/2 lbs each off the same stump - that was fun. One or two more in the boat and I quit - wind was just too much. Friday morning - frost on the Ranger 520 - and cold breeze! I guided 3 young men - all about 15 years old (and in their shorts!) - dad was going to go but decided it would be a "kid" day. We fished about 5 hours with disappointing results. We had lots of bites and hookups but could not land them. Some was inexperience but mostly wind and lethargic fish were the problem. One rock bank produced four hooked smallies and all were lost within seconds. They did land 3 in the 2 lb range and one 12 incher. After letting them off at their home on the lake, I fished a few more hours in the wind but found the fish more active. Had lots of action and landed 4 or 5 from 2 1/4 to 3 lbs 2 oz - all spawned out females. A green pumpkin Power worm was the ticket. Most of those smallies were under docks on the peninsula's south side. Though I hit the usual cold front every time I go there, fishing was fairly good condsidering the very cold north wind.
      City: Yuba City

Tips: It is so hard to judge the fishing at a lake when the water temp is about 7 or 8 degrees below normal and a weather front comes in every day or so. I hope the fry will survive the cold temps - I'm sure they will be fine. I did try some cranking in shadows but no interest. Friday afternoon as shadows formed from the tall pines, some fish did become active, hitting worms, in open water as long as the banks were steeper - rock helped. I did some dragging in the afternoon, but found casting to targets (docks) to be more effective. We didn't hook many below 10 feet of water. Some bass are on off-shore structure already.

Report: Fished the island, channel point, and swiming pool.Had 3 fish follow shad colored subwalk and missed two fish. The first was on a white senko. The second was flippin' tulies with black/blue craw it was a huge fish, snapped my 15lb test.

Tips: Bass are starting to become more active

      Water Temp: warm?

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: sorry for the late post. I went with a friend for an hour or so, and managed to get one. At first we tried senkoes weightless and that didnt work. we moved to a large point that goes towards the middle of the lake. By then i switched to the trusty darterhead with GULP and got one. After that another friend happened by and we went to his house. The lake is lower (no surprise) and the fish can sense the lowering level of water. They have moved towards the middle of the lake as well. I'm not sure about this but if you watch the small birds, they help indincate where the small baitfish are. I think the bass are underneath the fish and push them upwards, while the birds take them from above.
      City: Santa Rosa

Tips: Get a float tube and get to the middle of the lake. I use 6lb test flouro, and 8lb works too. The fish seem fairly active, try a spinnerbait or crankbait. For topwater, use a popper it will get you #'s but not as much size. I feel that frogs work better on mats or weeds on the water. Try a YUM buzzfrog to get down more and target the bigger ones.

      Water Temp: 70

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Couldn't get anybody to go with me so I went on a solo trip. I launched out of the spillway ramp right at 6:00. Got into topwater right away. They seemed to want a chartreuse shad Sammy and nothing else. Only caught 5 on topwater but had at least 15 blowups. Caught most of my fish on dartheads and splitshot. Color didn't seem to matter but I only used Robos in Morning Dawn, Prizm Shad, and MM. Also got one on a rip bait but didn't fish it too much.

      Water Temp: 70+

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Took my two boys out on Friday before the weekend crouds. Another great day on the lake. Started out with topwater that was still working good and the spinnerbait bite was on in the morning with the wind blowing. The mojo rigged brush hog was working well, very well cought a 9 pounder on it in the morning and thought we had another big one later in the day but it was a 8 pound cat fish. Over 20 bass total 5 best at 20 lbs.
      City: Vacaville

Tips: There were none of the big schools of shad up shallow like last time so the fish are starting to pull off shore. We did find a couple shad schools shallow and just killed them on topwater. The spinnerbait only worked in the morning with the wind up once the wind died down the bite stoped. Topwater worked all day even when the lake went flat and the brush hog bite was all day. The big fish was in a offshore creek channel and most of the other brush hog fish came on the outside edge of the weed lines. Take a kid fishing.

      Hi Sid

You know, I could tell something was wrong with you the last time we went out. You breathing was labored and you had to stop frequently to catch you breath. My wife and I will mention you every day from now on in our morning prayers. I look forward to the day when we can go out again on the boat. As you know I came but your cabin last weekend looking for nurse Ester. Heres why:

Last Saturday I decided to go down to the Lake and fish for Carp. I just wanted some action and I did not care what kind it was. You know the feeling. Well I staked out a spot over where the swimming pond empties into the Lake. There I could see a school of 12 or so hugh Crap cruising and looking for food. I took a treble hook and baited it with Whole Wheat bread in a dough ball and doped it with 3-4 drops of Vanilla extract. Within 5 minutes I was getting bites but nothing serious. I got hungry and started to eat my lunch at the read picnic table. I took one bite out of my ham and cheese sandwich, when all of a sudden the rod bell began to ring vigorously. The rod bent violently at a 90 degree angle and looked as if the rod would come out of the holder any second. In my excitement I rush down the steep slope and fell. I rolled down the hill and turned over at least 3 time before getting up. I grab the rod and began to reel in what felt like a tank, it was pulling drag like crazy. It was a huge 6.00 lb Carp. During my roll down the slope I skinned my right knee real bad and I could feel it bleeding through my pants. That's when I decide to go see nurse Ester at your house. When I got there I met Sarah and told her want happen. She gave no second thought about helping an injured stranger. She bandaged my injury and send me back to the Lake to do battle once again. Tell Sarah want a blessing she is and how lucky you are to have her as a daughter-in-law.

I went back down to the Lake and caught another nice 3.0 lb Carp and a 2.5 lb Catfish.
Get well soon. When can I come by to see you?

      Best Regards

      A. Brown

      To all my fishing friends,

I have not been able to write my article for the past two weeks because I had a quadruple by pass over Memorial day weekend. I am happy to write that it was successful and the doctors say that I should have a full recovery.
I will not be able to fish for the next 4 weeks but you can bet that the minute I get on the boat to fish for the first time after this operation you will hear about it.

Till next time, good fishing and good health.

      Sid

P.S. If you have any fishing stories e-mail me them and I will share it with everyone.

Report: Hogan was very nice on Thursday of this week - sometimes breezy but also calm at times. I lost my first strike due to using a KrippleAnchovie rig I tied about three years ago, that first hit was incredible! After a short fight the leader broke. Rats.

But a while later I had another hit, and got that one to the boat. One fish in the box and one lost beats a skunk! The one I got to the boat was 24" and 4 1/2 lbs. That was about it for five hours of trying. The one I got in the box was dripping milt all over the boat. Either he was looking for love, or he really, really liked my boat!

Both fish hit at about 20 feet on rolling anchovies. Both were in the narrows just off the main lake.

I trolled from 0830 to 1330. The lake lice were beginning to arrive, so I let 'em have it. I didn't see a boil all day. I guess it's not active enough yet, but it's likely to get better now with the warmer weather.

The water is low but the old dam isn't showing yet. There are a total of six launching lanes open now, so there's plenty of access.

Hogan is a mysterious lake. Some days you might catch a half a dozen stripers (limit of 10 and no size restrictions), some days you can't buy a strike. I do believe the hottest days are best for stripers.

      Photos on my homepage http://www.fishwisher.com
      City: Stockton

Tips: The hotter the day on Hogan, the better the striper fishing. Or so it seems...

Report: Went out early. Found a great early topwater bite on the small punker. Just fishing points. there seemed to be fish on every point. Landed some beautiful spots. I went with a bigger bait to eliminate the smaller bites. Hey it worked.

Tips: Fish as many points as possible. throw across the point and have fun.

Report: After coming back from a trip to Montana where all the rivers and stream were blown out from all the snow melt, it was great to be back on Oroville Lake. We have now reached that dreaded time where the lake has now started to fall for the summer. Three feet down this last week, I hope it doesn't fall any faster. Anyway, I took a young boy out to the Thursday night tounament and although we didn't win, we had a great night of fishing. The jig bite was on right away but I wanted to try some top water vixon. It was the best night I've had with top water. Only a few missed blow-ups but over 30 hooked with the vixon 5 over the bigest being 16+. Lots of other bass caught on what ever we tried.
      City: Paradise

Tips: Almost every thing was working. Jigs, tubes, senko's, spinner baits, lipless crank baits, worms and wake baits. From points to walls to mud lines, it was all happning.
