      Water Temp: N/A

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Talked with Susan Thompson (831-636-4000) at San Benito County re closure of San Justo. Susan was very helpful and provided the following update.

There is a multi-agency task force working on the San Justo mussel infestation. Its report is not yet finalized, but hopefully will be presented at San Benito County board meeting on 1 July. One complication is the water rationing that has disrupted the plan for lowering the lake and attacking the mussels. There is probably nothing that can be done to open the lake this season but, maybe, next season.
The Board agrees with staff that the lake should be opened for recreational use if at all possible.
They are not considering the New York state developed biocide because of organic growers served by the reservoir who would not want such a biocide introduced into their water supply.
An alternative is potash, in liquid form, which eradicates the mussels, but potash is not approved by the state for that application although it is for use as a fertilizer.
Son, John, and I, along with a lot of you San Justo devotees, are keeping our fingers crossed and hoping that our lake can be re-opened to recreational fishing as soon as possible.
      City: Monterey

Tips: Keep informed and, at every opportunity, let the authorities know that you want the mussels controlled in a reasonable way and the lake re-opened.

      Water Temp: 68-70

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Got about 25 drop shot fish from 5'-20', one crank bait fish but no other takers this week on reaction baits. Carp were digging up the weeds and creating muddy water. People should start bow hunting these things, Calero and Anderson are overloaded with them and I am sure they are effecting the bass..
      City: San Jose

      Tips: Stay in clear water

      Water Temp: 73-78

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Two of us fished from 1300-1900. Nothing till 1700, then we caught 7. Largest 2.8# on a chartruese spinner, 4 on chartruese grubs, 1 on shakey head with brown smoke cut-tail, 1 on black worm.
Majority off of a single point.
      City: Monterey

Tips: Bright chartruese seemed to be the ticket although they ignored all our crankbait offerings.

      Water Temp: 68

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: I also had a very tough day early. I was trying topwater going big (Lunker Punker) with not even a blowup, one on chatter bate, one on sweet beaver, none on senko(wow). I stayed close to Franks all day with a trip into Dutch. I found a bite later in the afternoon, don't know if it would have been there early. Flipping really, really tight to cover. Smallest pockets, smallest bits of shade. I think it would have worked other places as well, but I only get one day ever so often.
      City: SJ

Tips: Flip ever hole possible, heck it save gas because you just don't go anywhere fast. :-)

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fishing was tough today and windy until noon. Also, fought the ski boats who had no class whats so ever. I threw top water for a hour or so in the morning with no luck. Some fish swirled around it but no bites. About 11am caught my three fish of the day on incoming. All small on wacky rigged worms (black). During the day I tried everything but could'nt find the answer. Talked to other fisherman and they had less luck or no luck at all. Area fished was near Tiki/ Whisky.
      City: San Ramon

Tips: Now that the spawn is pretty much over the fish have moved so change your tactics. Stay on the move until you find the answer.

      Water Temp: 73-74

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Low end of the lake was dead...nothing around the dam, rock walls, Ski Cove....then we went up to horseshoe bend in the timber and around that cove....caught 12 Bass...10-14" all on Ripbait (Chartreuse Lucky Craft)...lost a nice one on Top Water. Saw alot of boats up river...I think once the water settles, we'll see better action on the lower end....
      City: Merced, CA

Tips: Stay Upriver for now. Watch your tail at Horshoe...it's still very shallow on the edges, and right behind the floating bathroom...also Sheriffs are ticketing people for speeding around the bend past the house boats, even though it's the main area, unless your >150 Feet away...Bite seems to improve after 5:00 P.M....

      Water Temp: low 70's

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Andrew, I too would like to know where the big ones are? Gotta feeling you need to be deep as we too caught so many small ones it got boring... 80+ on roboworms, t-rigged, in any thing with purple or the oxblood/red flake. Biggest was 2.4, but my son also caught a real nice rainbow on a robo with scent? We stayed near Angels arm.

I'm not the best teacher/fisherman, but this trip really helped my son build confidence in fishing with plastic worms...

For us, the top water was hot until the sun was up. Throwing anywhere with shade usually produced a strike, but we were using rapala's. I even hooked into a fun 8.14# squaw-fish that was a blast on 8 pound test. Oh, and our best catch was a really nice 6" Huddleston trout...

My 12 year old and I had a blast!!! the camping was great too... Go during the week, no crowds.
      City: Somerset

Tips: Downsize your tackle and the purple robo's like the MM & MM III's worked best(Glory Hole Sports has a great selection if you need them like we did). Also, stay in the shade as long as possible with either the robo's or top water(we used the rapala #13).

Report: This is what happens when people don't practice catch and release. Up until three years ago, the fishing was very good at Shadow Cliffs, particularly in the arroyo and the island pond. But these are not huge bodies of water. The bass population is only so big. Back in 2005 and 2006, I ran into several "regulars" here who kept their fish. And these were pretty good fisherman. On several occasions, I saw them with stringers attached to their tubes with ten dead bass. What do they think will happen to the fishing if they keep doing this? We are seeing the results at Shadow Cliffs now. This place is a shadow of it's former self (sorry for the pun).

      Water Temp: 70

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Fished the Narrows and Main body. Could not get a reaction fish. Caught 12 spots and 1 smallie on Gitzits, Darter head Robo Worms and Football Head Jigs. Most of my action came in the narrows shallow and deep. No cove fish all fish came on major points. My best 5 weighed 6.09 Lbs. The lake is going down quicker than last year.
      City: W.Sac

Tips: Fish now before the price of gas gets too high.

      Water Temp: ???

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: I caught a 3 lb bass today with an EBMUD tag attached to it. I released the fish but memorized the number on the tag. Is there somewhere you should report the number to? Does anybody know why they tag the fish?
      City: San Leandro

Tips: Fish shady water with slow presentation.

      Water Temp: 68

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I went to Clear Lake (better known at the OCEAN at Clear Lake!) with a friend yesterday. We fished the late afternoon until a little after midnight. Fishing was ok for post-spawn. Where you found one, there was usaully a few more. Many spots didn't produce a thing. I caught 10 and he caught 15 or 16 and his limit was well over 20 lbs - the biggest a shade over 5 lbs. The intense wind kept us from hooking all the bites but we did our best. We fished from the narrows south.
      City: Yuba City

Tips: I can't say much more since he is fishing an upcoming tournament. If we ever get a sustained heat spell, the lake may get some color and thus slow the weed growth. Until then, good luck with the weeds! They are already extending out to about 12 feet deep.

      Water Temp: 68-70

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Wacked em on just about any thing. Best was a 3 lb'r on topwater. I got distracted and when I looked back I couldn't find my lure... several twitches, still no lure??? Started reeling only to find a nice 3 lb'r on the end! LOL, never heard it hit!

We had 20 by 9 in the morning and my son Jon even caught a real nice 18" rainbow on a roboworm. With the strong wind and a slight motor problem, we decided to get off the water by noon, finished with 2 dozen, mostly dinks but a blast if you have a kid with you, It's quantity with them...
      City: Somerset

Tips: If you're older and fat like me, make sure you launch from the right ramp, the 1/2 mile climb back to get the truck/trailer nearly killed me...

Cast tight to the bank and into the shadows and you'll get bit!!!

Tips: Plenty of dinks. Use large lures to eliminate some.

      Water Temp: Warm

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: At bottomed out low tide I launched from Ladd's around 4:30 p.m. It was a nice run to 14 Mile Slough in "BASSBUSTER1". The weekend crasiness was going on at the beach. I worked the two cuts before the "Y" intersection. I worked the creek channels between the tule islands. Even with my boat the back flats were extremely low. Was it a minus tide today? This was the lowest I"ve seen it in years.

I was suprised of the aggessive bottom bites I was getting even with all the boat pressure going by with in 100 yrds of me. I bottom bounced 1/2 ounce Black/Red Jig w/small sweet beaver trailer and weighted senko like bait.
      City: Stockton

Tips: I'd rather fish the week days. :-P

Report: Well I don't have a report, but I do have some questions. I am looking to make my first trip to Clear Lake and I am looking for some advice about where to stay (camp) and launch. Also, from reading the posts, it sounds like senkos or drop shotting is the most popular approach? Any suggestions on where to go or what to use for a first timer? Numbers are good, but big fish is better! Thanks!
