Report: Early Saturday morning I took the Taylor clan out. The head of the clan had just
celebrated his 84th birthday and his two sons and son-in-law were taking him out
fishing. I decided to head towards the vineyards with a few stops along the way.
Col. Robert (Dad) had brought a collapsible rod that he has owned forever which
he wanted to show me. I asked him if he would like to catch fish with that rod and
he said sure if it was possible. I checked the line on the rod and I tied some mono-
filament to the dacron. We trolled towards the Ranch house and sure enough he
caught the first bass!!!! He was so excited after landing the fish he had a smile from
ear to ear. He continued to land a few more and said to his sons 'I told you I would
catch the first fish and that's how you do it!' When we stopped at the Ranch house
I showed Robert how to use a top water bait. After throwing the 'chugger' many
times, he was rewarded when a nice size bass exploded on the bait and he landed it.
This went on for awhile where he caught a few and lost a few. The water was
crystal clear no problem seeing down 12 feet. When we got to the vineyards the water
was stained and we had a problem seeing down 1 to 2 feet. Matt was using brass and
glass and a senko and Robert was using a weightless senko and we were aiming at the
tree stumps in the water and got a few good fish in about 2 feet of water. After awhile
we starting heading back and I told them we would stop at my favorite cove before
calling it a day. All the Taylors had landed fish but poor Bob didn't have any luck and
they were giving him a bad time. Col. Robert asked me to help him catch a fish. I said
I would do my best. I had him throw out a weightless senko (watermelon with black
flake) and on the way down he hooked a spotted bass which he landed. Everyone was
quiet now. We went to another spot and I showed him where to throw the bait to the
shore. He was using brass and glass this time and remarked that he would catch a
big fish this time. He slowly reeled the bait through the grass and he thought he was
stuck but I told him to set the hook and sure enough he brought in the largest bass of
the day a 5.5 pound large mouth (see photo). Needless to say no one teased him for
the rest of the trip. On Sunday I stayed at the dock all day cleaning up my boat and
fishing for carp. Using 2 pound test line, I lost about 5 and landed about 5. Great
fight on very light tackle. Egan (8 years old) and his friends brought in a 4 pound
carp on their own. 'til next week.............................................good fishing!!!!!!

Report: We caught over 20# in the Future Pro on Saturday.
At our first spot we caught a 5.3 on the third cast, ten minutes later a 6.4. Both came on a red Speed Trap. Same spot twenty minutes later we caught a 6.5 on a weighted Senko. We ended the day with over 20#.
If you hear any info from Cooch, add it to your plan. Dee and Cooch were the speakers at the pre tournament seminar on Friday. Cooch talked about using red Speed Traps and weighted Senkos.
Thank You Cooch for the all the honest info that you give to all who ask.

Water Temp: 71
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Couldnt get a top water bite going. Lake was PACKED! Worse then Folsom! First time fishing this lake in a year and a half. All in all caught 23 spots. ALL dinks! Does this lake have any big fish in it? I was throwin a six inch senko. Fish were sooo small could only get about 50% hooked up. Colors were green pumkin and smoke. Whats the point in going to Oroville. This lake has just as many dinks. If I go again it will be during a week day.
Tips: Watch your line!

Clear Lake

Water Temp: 64 degrees
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Put in at Redbud at approximately 7 AM. Fished only in the southwest arm region. It was a little windy early but died down as things heated up. Because of recent success with this pattern, I target shade, rocks, and vegetation. Boated eight fish before 1 PM. A seven, two sixes, a five, a three, and some twos. Lost three giants near the boat. I will never drop shot with weedless hooks that are almost barbless again. Wacky rigged senkos worked all day. Green pumpkin or watermelon seem good. Most fish came in fairly shallow water, 3-10 feet. Rocks nearby help as does vegetation. Distant casting can be key. They scare real easy. A fast rod tip is a must. With an extremely slow retrieve, anything that feels unusual is probably a fish chewing on your worm. Set the hook big time. On the big ones, you'd better get serious with the hook set or you'll be whining.
City: EspartoTips: I keep seeing guys fishing out in open water with the sun beating down. Unless you plan to fish deep because you've located fish, forget that. When that sun starts beating on the water, you have a great hint by just finding those hidden shady hiding spots. With the 90 to 100 degree temps coming, I'll be the guy throwing spooks in until right after sunrise; then it'll be frog time! Top water and shade patterns should score this weekend. I'll still keep the drop shot rig handy!

Moved around stayed mostly on the east with no luck, went back to se corner and caught 4 more on senkos no fish was over 2lbs.
City: Grass ValleyTips: If you find the fish stick with them till they all out stop, seems as if they are schooling up a bit.

Wind picked up at about 11 and i was off the lake by 12. Finished with a total of 6 fish with the biggest going 5.6
City: Carmel ValleyTips: no luck with senkos, jigs, or spinnerbaits. lipless crainkbaits seemed like the trick.

Report: Cast for kids tournament out of granite bay put on by Folsom Bass Team. Very organized and lots of fun. I had 2 kids and a mom in my 21 foot Triton. I think there were over 20 boats in the event. Jeff our president and committed did a wonderful job. It was nice to see the kids smile as they reeled in 11 spots in 2 hours. I even got them to kiss the fish goodby. We got our boat pulled out by club members and went to a nice barbaque. The kids all got a rod and nice tackle box with various tackle inside. The dart headed fish we caught hit pirzm shad worms.
I am looking forward to next years event and hope we get more people involved.
City: orangevaleTips: The fish wouldn't eat live night crawles below a bobber???? So we dart headed them. 10 to 15 feet in the rocks. Take a kid fishing

California Delta
-
Water Temp: 70 degrees
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Vacationed on the Delta May 9-16. Stayed at B&W. Had warm weather with a couple windy days. Fished most of the popular spots from Whites Disappointment Middle River Mandeville and areas south. Pretty good spinnerbait action most days with a few 3 lbers mixed in with the 1-3 lbers. Most fun was fishing a jig and DW Beaver rig in black/blue or junebug. Caught numerous 3-5 lbers and several 8,9 & 10 lbers. Cooch was right when he said the river was fishing like February and I know he fishes jigs a lot. I caught 10-15 quality fish each day. Lot of boats around with the Future Pro and Stren events but lots of room for everyone.
City: Oak ParkTips: Had better jig action on rising tide. Caught some senko fish but they were smaller. Chart spinnerbaits, black/blue jigs dw beavers, senkos. One of the best fishing vacations to date for me. Have fun !! Dan Curtis

Water Temp: 66 to 69
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Tried dock fishing for the first time in DB with my fishing buddy. GREAT morning bite. About 10 bass between 1 1/2 to 4 pounds. All on senkos. My buddy lost a big fish on a dock. Dont know how big it was. She couldn't even get him to the surface because it was so big! I also lost 2 good size fish. Around noon, the bite died. Tried fishing a channel with some flooded islands. Third cast, I hooked a MONSTER bass on a spinnerbait. Got her half way to the boat and she spit my bait. I was hurt. That bass would've weighed in at least 8 pounds or more. Overall GREAT day of fishing.
City: El SobranteTips: Senkos all the way. If your bait isn't right on cover, you're not going to get bit.

Clear Lake
-
Water Temp: 61-65
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: A fishing buddy of mine and I decided to check out the night bite last night. I was prepared for more wind, but what happened about 1 AM was a little scary. Heavy wind doesn't usually start in the middle of the night at Clear Lake - and so quickly! We got out of Konocti Bay as fast as we could and it was an adventure all the way back to the Oaks. I don't think I have ever loved my Range 520 better than last night! What a boat!! We were even mostly dry. As for the fishing, it was excellent except for the size. Again, most bass 2 1/2 to 3 1/4 lbs. I took Mike to a special spot of mine and he did land a 5 lb 7 oz bass for big fish. We did have several 4's and a decent limit of 21+ lbs. We both noticed the bass seemed to be schooled up more than usual. We had 2 double hookups - one about a second apart! Then no bites for awhile. We were very happy with 32 bass for the 7 hour trip but unhappy with how many we missed. Maybe that is a result of all the wind, I don't know. We lost as many as we landed, especially on the wacky-rigged senko, but no complaints. Great trip and a safe return!!
City: Yuba CityTips: Another interesting observation of last night was the position of the fish. Once the night bite started - about 11 PM, we would catch some bass in a foot or two of water while others were deeper than the daytime - about 15 to 20 feet. We had to work the whole water column. The brush hog was the top bait - with lots of Smelly Jelly! We targeted bass on rock walls, private launching ramps with deep edges (excellent areas in the spring), docks, tulles and rock flats.
