Report: Man oh man fishing.....the good, the bad and the ugly.

I had a real interesting day today.

      First the good.

I started the day ripping 8 fish. Everywhere I stopped I connected on at least a fish or two or three. The lake is paticularly clear (I could see down upwards of 8'-10' in some areas) and with the lake dead calm I had a lot of follows, packs of fish, but none committed to the bait. Once the wind picked up this changed dramatically and that is when I finally got bit. I then hit a spot where I had a pack of fish follow the rip bait but again none committed. I decided to try out the shakey head worm....what a decision, for thee next three hours in little more than a 40 yard stretch of shoreline I caught and released 52 fish ranging in size from 1/2 lb to just over 4lbs. It was like I had died and gone to heaven....absolutely unreal. I fished until the wind picked up and my trolling motor died

      Now the bad.

I pull up the trolling motor and say ahh what the hell let me make a few rips. I take one average fish then get a real nice hit, the fish jumps once and I see it's a decent fish probably a good 5 to 6lber. The fish jumps again shakes it's head and thows my bait

      Now the ugly.

I leave the spot and head back to the marina. Bummed that I just lost the best fish of the day. I make one more stop in the wind and make a few last rips. On my second cast I get bit hard. The fish surfaces and I can see this is a BIG one. The fish jumps once and I see OHHH MAN IT'S A REAL BIG, LIKE PB, BIGGEST EVER FOR ME, ONE....I fight the fish carefully to the side of the boat (man I wish the trolling motor had juice so I could better position the boat), get the net and am just about to net the fish when she shakes her head once and spits the bait............I had a very good look at this fish and I'm fairly certain it was double digits, had to be at least 8, big, fat with a mouth as big as my head...damn.

Hard to believe I drove home from the lake "bummed" I only caught 60+ fish. (Best 5 went 16+)

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Started out early, same places, same baits, something different, no biotes. Moved upriver (south) to spot fished last week, not even one bite, kinda crazy. Moved to an area about 100 yds and took a limit for about 15. One smallie fours ponds, ret were spots, no blacks this week, go figure. From 11:00 to 1:00 tossed Huddlestons, saw two nice followers but no takers, was using Rainbow Pro-cure.
      City: sac

Tips: I think this moon has changed the bite, plus it was a little bit cooler last night. It was darker in this morning as compared to last week's moon. I don't know.

Report: One last trip to McClure for the evening bite. I couldn't help myself. Took a friend bass fishing for the first time. Continued w/ the same thing I've been doing all week w/ the same results. However, did find a good spinnerbait bite along a wind-blown steep bank and point in Cottonwood. Biggest fish was a 4lb. spot. Friend boated about 12 fish and had a great time. It's sure nice to introduce people to this great sport.
      City: Atwater

Tips: Still dartheadin' worms and now throwin' more spinnerbaits. Tried the swimbait for a while w/ one bump but wouldn't commit. Caught a few on a creature bait as well.

Report: Headed out with wife and dog. Haven't fished this lake in about 10 years so I thought we would try out our new boat somewhere other than the Delta. Managed 4 bass from secondary points on same dropshot setup I kill 'em with on the delta. All fish were from 3 to 5 lbs. Lost 2 other large bass that threw the hook at the boat. Also landed one on a craw colored lucky craft lipless crank bait. This fish went about 3 lbs. Long drive for me but I will surely be back very soon. Much better than I remember when I fished here with my grandfather as a kid.
      City: Antioch

Tips: Watermelon/black flake 6" yamamoto dropshot worms fished in coves and on points on Eastern side of lake.

Report: Fished the middle fork in the AM, only put 2 in the boat. One on a c-rigged Powerworm and the other on a Yum dinger. Water visibility was 15+ feet in some locations before the wind came up. It was a great day on the lake. Can't wait for the bite to pick up.

Report: Almost no fish or bait on screen. Water 4 degrees warmer in upper S. Fork, up to 60+ in PM. Tough bite. 10 in slot (none under) & only 1 over. Hit darthead Aaron's Magic fished slowly. Think some of fish were spawning.

Tips: Start looking for spawners before the wind comes up.

Report: The Redwood Empire Bass Club held their March tournament on Saturday under clear skys. We had an excellent turnout with 32 anglers all competing against each other. When the day ended everyone weighed in at least one bass with a total of 127 fish weightin in. There were 17 limits and average weight of 2.29 lbs per bass. It took just over 23 lbs for 1st place anchored by a pair of 7lb'ers. The weights droped from there to 15 lbs for 2nd and 13 lbs to make the top 10. Fish were caught on a variety of techniques including crankbaits, spinnerbaits, jigs, worms and brush hogs. I was able to pull out a 4th place finish catching an limit early using a white spinnerbait and a 5" Yamamoto grub in the Dry Creek area. I even landed a large crappie on the spinnerbait.
Next stop on the REBC tour will be Clear Lake in April so get out your swimbaits and ripbaits and get ready for some fun. For more info, visit our website at www.rebc.net.
      City: Rohnert Park

Tips: The fish are definately on the pre-spawn mode. Bass are suspending around cover waiting for the water to warm more before moving to the shallows. White blades and plastics in green pumpkin or watermelon and crankbaits in shad or crawdad patterns. Also try drop shotting around bushes in staging areas or tossing a weightless senko.

      Water Temp: 64-70

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Reading prior reports, I figured the afternoon bite might be good. Wrong! For me at least. I got 3 bites from 3:30 pm till 11 pm, one 12" fish on a brush hog at dark and 2 on jigs after dark. Only landed the little 12 incher. One guy said he caught 6 from one cove and another boat I saw caught at least 1 or 2 good ones (bass) around 4:30 from a small cove just off the main body but that wasn't a bass boat and they may have been using live bait as they appeared anchored and were 10 feet off the bank. Lake about 3 feet from full. Within a day of the new moon. Air temp was pretty warm and there were no clouds or fog. The great news is there are no weeds yet!!
      City: Folsom

Tips: Unless you're happy with a 1 in a 100 shot at a decent fish or willing to fish till dawn, don't fish this lake at night without moonlight. The floating debris situation at the launch ramp was much improved.

Report: Fish the Day with my wife, Started out up north before the Boarders got out... nothing happening. Moved to the middle of the lake picked up a few, then moved to the west side, south of the launch, picked up four in one spot then moved more south, water temp went up and so did the fishing. Went into the very back of Frenches Cove... as far back as you could go, only 3 - 6 feet deep. Saw about 20 - 30 good size babies cruisin' around, they wouldn't touch a thing I threw, ther were some that went up to about 6lb's. Finished the Day with 18 fish, biggest only 1.7lb's, most caught on Drop-shot with Baby Bass Cut-Tail, a few on AAron's Magic and two on Senko's. Another fun Day.

Report: I wish I could give you a better report, but we were on the water on the friday of the FLW with the bright idea of fishing piper in from of Russos. The off limits area. Well we picked up a few fish off of the condo complex and got a bite on tysuns point, but for the most part the fishing was slow. Slow meaning that 12-15 fish in the 1-4 lb range. Beavers lead to the most bites. Unfortuantely, most of the spots that we would usually fish, Genos point, phils point, rondos cut... They all had boats on them.

For those of you who don't know these places and you are looking for a great club with good guys to fish with, then go to www.dmbass.com and check out the Devil Mountain Bassmasters or call me at 925-639-7724.

      Water Temp: about 65 degree

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: i went out yesterday. It was a slow start. About 6 fish in early morning, all nder 2 pounds. Caught then on a jig. then slowed for about 2 hrs. Then caught 3 more on a rat-L-trap. Then stayed slowed way down until about 2pm. Got near some 5 mile zone and fished near some docks and all hell broke loose. The only way i'd not catch a fish is if i just put my senko down and not put it in the water again. It was on fire!!! 10 pounder, 7 pounder, 9 pounder, 2's, 3's , I even was casting where my buddy finished fishing and i'd still bring em in. Get out there now and go to work. The delta is on fire, or, you could stay home and let me fish like that again next weekend.
