    • Water Temp: 57-58

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Burr, left home in Magalia, 38 degrees, not as cool at the lake but still cool. Surprised at how many boats launching today, as today was the only day to fish Oroville, with rain coming the rest of the week. Got launched about 6:30, to me a surprise, had to wait in line today. Guys, pre-prep your boats at the top of the ramp, not at waters edge!!! get it in the water and out of the way of others. Pet peeve of mine!! Bite was decent, picked up 4-5 fish the first hour, then it slowed slightly. Almost couldn't fish, my depth finder decided to go off and would not come back on for like an hour. Not knowing depth really sucks, makes one feel blind, not used to fishing like that, but eventually it decided to work. Loose connection or something. Anyway, caught 14 spots, all basic 13-14" like in the picture. Gave it a final cast at the dock and got number 15! always one last cast. Water still dropping Picture in fishing forum.

    • Report: From Glory Hole Sports

      Water Conditions
New Melones Lake is currently holding 515,711 acre-feet of water. The lake level came up just a little this past week and should start to rise quickly with the recent and upcoming rainfall. It is currently at 861 ft. above sea level and 224 ft. from full. The water clarity is clear in most of the lake with a slight stain in some areas. The water temperature is cooling, with the average being 57-62 degrees.
The concrete ramp is CLOSED and should re-open once the lake reaches 865 ft. There is also a courtesy dock on the dirt launch which will be in place until the concrete ramp is open again.

      Bass
Many bass anglers have been doing a little better as the fish transition to a fall-like pattern. The bass will feed heavily in preparation for the cold winter months to come. The shad are constantly on the move and the majority of bass are following them around the lake. There are areas that will be loaded with fish and then be vacant a few hours later. The key is to make multiple stops in search of actively feeding fish. The productive depth seems to be 35'-45'. Look for areas that the bass will push and ambush bait. Shad patterned worms fished on a darthead or shakeyhead will work well. Many fish are suspended and swimming a single tail grub in the middle water column will trigger strikes. Some fish will completely ignore the schools of shad and strictly target crawdads. Plus, fish are opportunistic feeders and will pick up a crawdad even if they are in the process of busting shad. This makes a football head jig a good choice. Use light jigs in shallow water and heavier jigs as you work out deep. Keeping contact with the bottom is very important when fishing a jig. ¾-ounce jigs in 45' of water will trigger bites from now until spring. Use natural colors and switch trailer until the fish tell you what they prefer. PLEASE PRACTICE CATCH AND RELEASE. Take photos and carefully release the fish back into to the lake to maintain a healthy fish population for generations to come.

    • Water Temp: 62-64

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Mike Sperbeck and I started our trip with a great meal prepared by Sandy and Laurie - wow - great food!! We then headed out about 4 pm and only caught 3 before dark, but they were approx. 2 1/2, 3 1/2, and 4 1/4 lbs - good start. The hour after dark was something special, hooking bass after bass - mostly in the 3 to 4 lb range. Bass were in the top 15 feet of water, but that bite faded in about an hour. The bite slowed and the bass we did catch were getting smaller - only up to 1 1/2 lbs. No more dinks this time of year. Our best 5 went about 18 1/2 to 19 lbs. Could not get the "big" bite.

Tips: I tried topwater and crankbaits - but no takers. Bait was 30 to 50 feet deep as were the afternoon bass we caught - using jigs. I did some spooning but no takers. After dark they were hitting compact baits like brush hogs and Yamamoto Kreature baits. I was going to do some night cranking but never got around to it.

    • Report: Delta Report…. West Delta Reigns Supreme
Hook-Line-and Sinker Team event out of Russo’s Sunday should be another great event, as the bite is tough and even playing field this week.
Isleton The salmon bite remains OK as cooler evening temps take hold. The bite in the area has been just mediocre all week. While we continuing to getting reports of success from Salmon searching anglers, still Spinners are leading the way. Water temperatures have dropped with the cooler evenings. While fewer are fishing they are seeing larger salmon getting close. Stan’s Spinners are the best bet for those who want to try.
Walnut Grove Continuing slower Salmon numbers with more decent sized salmon reported Spinners and K-14 getting mentioned. Best area has been Courtland to Walnut grove. More Stripes are in the area as anglers recover still around as temperatures return more seasonable in the Walnut Grove area as the trolling bite is OK mostly small fish. Red Eye Shad and small shad patterned plastics are the top choices here as well. Small swimbaits are scoring stripes around Liberty.
Discovery Bay Staying decent! Stripers that had been starting to group up in the Marina side seem to have moved into the Kellogg creek side with vengeance. They are also still in the area, the bait and stripes are in main river Holland riverside south to Italian Slough. Hair Jigs and Strike King Bad To The Bone RedEye Shad getting bit. Black Bass cooler evening temps have water temperatures dropping and the bite on upswing! Reaction bites during the weather more finesse techniques when storms pass.
Frank’s Tract Small Stripers and bass bite both responded well to the cooler temperatures. It’s no secret what a little fall weather can do. Rip baits are great options while small swim baits and swim jigs get the mention. We found plenty of Stripers and Black Bass with Hair Jigs, Weedless Swimmers like the 5” Bubba Shad getting grabbed. Flurries of Stripers on Old River Flats.
West Delta Anglers in search of stripers are finding solid numbers of keeper stripers from both boat and bank. Most of the nice stripers coming soaking Shad . Antioch Pier scored stripers to 37 inches this week. Shad is top offering. The West as in Honker Bay to the Broad Slough plug casting is getting fish when wind cooperates. Go On Top with Dan’s Delta Mizers, during the day go old school with Hair Jigs Like Dan’s Classic Shimmer jigs or Spro in open water White/Dark Green and White/Blue best this week . Sturgeon quietly is slipping into the spotlight. Eel is the best bait over all, but roe and shad also scoring diamondbacks Broad slough and surrounding cuts.
Los Vaqueros Reservoir Fishing for trout continues to be solid. They are being caught in South Cove and Oak Point as well as Peninsula Cove. The baits of choice for shore anglers is garlic-scented PowerBaits, nightcrawlers or Kastmaster lures. Trout average a pound and a half but range to over 5 lbs. There was a 2500 pound DFW plant on November 8th. There will be a plant later this week. Light tackle is important for catching trout with 4-6 pound test being plenty. Trout fishing is still decent, especially in the morning, with limits being caught around the reservoir and more fish being caught overall. Lots of limits are starting to show up from South Cove and from boats around the lake.

    • Report: From Cooch's Fishing
      November 15 ·
Big swingin tides, full moon and stable water temps from 63 in the mornings to 65+ in the afternoon, brought the big fish bite we've experienced to a near hault. We managed to catch one really good fish each day on a jig, and the rest all we're 2 pound replacement fish. Still seeing a lot of giant pot bellied bass in the shallow grass beds, but they have become extremely difficult to catch. The grass is loaded with shiners and these fish must be feeding all night long, just stopped chompin during the day. Cooling temps over the next few days should turn it around. Lotta smaller fish can be found tossing ripbaits in the current flows on the inside corners of openings that flow into the vast flooded areas. This past week we had to move around a lot more and change up areas, fishing more spots ta keep the bites coming.

    • Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Weatherman said sprinkles, guess what, RAIN!! Launched about 6:40am, stopped fishing about 10:30 as I was soaking wet. Decent bite, never left the west branch, mostly fished lime saddle to hwy 70. Fish seemed scattered, some shallow, some deep. Decent fish, but no big ones, all basic 13-14" variety, but looking nice and fat. Landed 15 spots, biggest right about 14". Had I had good rain gear would have fished more in the rain, but soaking wet clothing, not fun.!! Picture in fishing forum.

Report: Jigged Berryessa today. Did pretty bad (everyone I talked too stated the same as well). The fish and bait were all spread out between the surface and 35 feet. The lake was turning. Hopefully things will pick up after it is done turning.

Report: Launch at about 6:50am at Bidwell Marina with my buddy. Rode across to Loafer Creek to fish. Caught a few fish with crankbaits and lipless while trolling. Found some hot spots and was pulling decent amount of fish out from points. Mostly 13-14s and a few 12s when fishing bottom. Fish are starting to get fatten up. It slowed down at about 11 so we came home. Good day of fishing for us.

    • Report: Provided by Fisherman's Warehouse

Though some Salmon are still being caught, most anglers are transitioning to Stripers and sturgeon in the Delta. Striped Bass are being caught throughout the delta and sturgeon seems to be best from Sherman Island down.

Early morning top water bite has been good on Super Spooks and pencil poppers. Swimbaits like River 2 Sea S-Wavers and Savage glide baits are working good too. Bait anglers are having good success with cut and live baits.

Sturgeon fishing has been hit or miss with one day being exceptionally good and the next a little slow. Big Red Lamprey with night crawler combo seems to be working the best but if you find the right spot all the traditional baits are working.

    • Water Temp: 61-62

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Launched with Jeff today in his boat about 7:30am at the damn, pulled off the water about noon. Ok fishing day, not bad, not great. We managed just 17 spots, fishing mostly the main lake and a short line dip in the middle fork, then back to the main lake. Calm day, hardly any winds for the lake today. Decent fish, most 13-14", no big ones today. Best fish 14" or so, but did not measure it, went 1.3 pounds. Better luck next trip!!! Picture in fishing forum.

Report: In spite of the big tournament, a friend and I decided to fish the late afternoon and for awhile at night. But upon arriving I saw that a trailer tire was destroyed - I hit a big hole on the road at Williams. After AAA was able to finally get the right parts and get the tire changed, it was almost dark. The bite was totally off - with no bites until we found some willing bass at 9 pm. We got several bites, but they was not really taking our baits. Since the water was still rather warm, I put on a 10" Power worm with light sinker to work over some rocks. That is what they would finally hit as I landed a 6 1/2 pounder along with a 3 1/4 and a smaller one. My partner missed several good bites - rare for him. We quit about 11:30 pm. It would seem as no surprise to me that the day bite is better now than the night bite. When I started fishing and guiding after dark at Clear Lake about 25 years ago - no one was on the water in November after dark with the exception of R, C, Stevens. I'll bet I saw 5 or 6 bass boats out last night. It was a beautiful night - no wind!!

Tips: Don't feel we had enough action to give tips. Most of his bites were on Kreature type baits and jigs, but they did seem to commit more to the Power worm - good hookups. Most bites were from 14 to 18 feet of water. Have the dinks headed for deeper homes? No dink bites!!

Report: Cool morning, burr. Launched at lime Saddle about 7am, fished till 10:45am. Wow, was it breezy today, hate that wind on days like this. Just so so fishing, with just 15 spots. Largest right at 15 1/2" taken on the submerged ridge from the point to the island where the West branch takes off in 25 feet of water. one other 15", no pictures as the battery died on my, let her go rather then stress her. Most all fish today 13-14" and fat looking, no 12" fish for a change. Water is on the way back up, not sure how long, but we did get a one foot rise with the rains. Quiet on the lake, very few boats today!! Pictures in fishing forum.

    • Report: From Cooch's Fishing
      October 29 ·
So today I got to fish with two looney birds, Chris & Marty. They run a lil production on the internet called, "We Suck at Fishing", they can be found on FB, Instagram, YouTube, all the social media stuff. First two hours we don't git squat, this is when they tell me they run this production and it's my job today to git them to step it up. So first thing I do is go into my lunch bag and take out my banana, "I guess it be prudent I rid the boat of this, eh guys?" They were split on the cause and effect of having a banana in the boat. After eating it I said OK, lefts go catch us some biguns. We roll up on a sweet spot of mine, I git a thump and wait it out till the fish drops the Jig, "okay they are here boys, both of ya, cast right over there to that big hole in the grass bed and work that jig slowly!" Plop Plop, 15 feet apart and Chris is rearing back, "Got One", it comes flyin out of the water and I yell, "Oh, that's a good one, KEEP THAT ROD DOWN!" Next thing I know Marty is hollerin, "Got one too, big one, Big one!" Nice double fellas, Chris' is his personal best! A few photos and weight, fish released and Marty is right back in that same hole with his second cast! He does't even git two hops in before he's rearing back again, "Oh (BEEP), it's a big one Cooch", Keep that rod down Marty, he isn't getting it and this 7lb12oz toad does somersaults three times before I'm finally able ta land it for him. Holy crap, another personal best, this time for Marty! Then I bring out that second Banana, MYTH DISPELLED BOYS! After 20 minutes of no bites we moved down the slough to another big offshore hole. I'm the first one in and git a big bite, pause, she lets it go and I tell em, "Okay boys, just like that last double, both of ya, git it in right there!" Like clock work, PLOP PLOP and they both rear back and set simultaneously on yet another double, this time a much bigger pair than the first time. 2nd double and yet a second new PB fer Chris. Bingo, five fish fer over 30 pounds in basically three casts! Caught a bunch of fish today after that, mostly under three pounds all in 6-8 foot grass beds on the Booby Trap and new Gunpowder TNT Wadda Jigs. For two guys who don't know how ta fish, they're gonna have a hard time splainin' this one to their viewers! HAR! I LOVE my Job!

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Launch at Spillway at around 7am. Fishing tournament going on today (didn't know). My buddy and I knew it was going to be crowded today so we hit some spots that anglers didn't expect. We tried first fishing at around the Spillway area, but nothing was hitting. We rushed towards Foreman Creek and bam we hit feeding ground. The fish were scrambled around the area but were hitting pretty good. Sizes are decent 12-14. We caught about 15-20 fishes, all bottom although fishes were coming up for bait. Not bad considering the weather and anglers running around trying to find good spot to fish. No angler came to our spot so it was good to have it to ourselves. Decent day of fishing. We left around noon.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I made a quick 3 hr trip Tues before dark and found my number one rule about bass fishing was still in effect - "Whatever happened on your last trip will NOT happen on this trip!! The clouds were just starting to move in as part of the present storm. Thought the bite would be good - especially topwater. Not a chance!! I only had one topwater bite, which was a 1 1/2 lb largemouth that I landed. So - what do I do?? I wacky rigged some Senkos and threw Robo worms. That did the trick just before total dark. I caught 3 more spots from 1 3/4 to 2 lb 10 oz. Missed another and broke off a big fish. So, not a total bad trip. I broke off the big one on a jig.

Tips: All I had to do was look at the surface water to tell the topwater bite was off. I saw only 3 or 4 bass break the surface. Never got a bite on the spot that was the best on my previous best. Again, my fish I did catch were off the bank on structure. The lake will be coming up this weekend with the present storm and the Sunday storm.

      Clear Lake this week 10/26/2016

Wow, what a weekend and what a storm, raising the lake level to 1.45 Rumsey.

Water conditions around the lake vary as does the bite. However, don’t let the ugly water scare you away. Trust me; fish are biting despite hat really weird looking water as witnessed by the photo below. John Pearl of John Pearl Guide Service displays three fish of his 46 lb. bag caught this past Tuesday in and around that ugly brown water, and I have it on good sources that other guides are wackin’ them as well.

While secrets are hard to come by, good solid instruction can really shorten the learning curve, so anyone looking to learn or just looking to catch a good one, reach out and contact a guide and have at em’ yourself. Below is a list of just some of the local big fish specialists.

Those who want to get after em’ alone, LV500s, Jackal TN70s, Strike King Redeye Shad, 1.5-3.0 square bills, Hudds, and deep diving cranks are all producing more than a few DDs, as is the good ole jig.

With the surface temperatures finally beginning to become normal for this time of year, the bait is beginning to group up and the fish are on the bait, and now is the time of year when big fish can be found in all four reaches of the lake. Lakeport, Redbud, Mid-lake, and Rattlesnake are all kicking out some really good fish this week, and with the forecast stormy weather, it should only get better. Just beware the wind. Don’t challenge it, launch where you can fish and get after them safely.
