    • Water Temp: 61-62

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Had to get on the lake today, as it looks like the only day it won't rain. Launched about 6:45am at Lime Saddle, fished till 10:30am. Water still clear even though we had 6" of rain the last two days. Picked up 4 spots first point on the left heading to N. Fork. Amazingly calm, slight breeze. Second stop, a weird skinny 17" spot, guessing maybe it's a male?? didn't fight like the same full belly girls, still decent fish. Seemed every stop picked up 1-2 fish, last stop got maybe 7-8 fish from a 40 foot section of shore. Overall, decent bite today, 21 spots total, with 3 in the 14" range, and the rest 13" or so, and the 17 incher. Fished seems to be more shallow today, think the rains made them move up a tad to feed on whatever washed in while raining. Water 61-62 degrees. Some wood already, so be careful!! • Report: Fishing Report from Glory Hole Sports

      Water Conditions
New Melones Lake is currently holding 520,678 acre-feet of water. The lake level dropped one foot this past week. It is currently at 862 ft. above sea level and 223 ft. from full. The water clarity is clear in most of the lake with a slight stain in some areas. The water temperature is slightly cooling, with the average being 63-68 degrees. The concrete ramp is CLOSED and is no longer in use. There is also a courtesy dock on the dirt launch which will be in place for the remainder of the summer and until the concrete ramp is open again.

      Trout
The water temperature continues to cool and we are getting closer to the annual turnover of the lake. The rainfall in the forecast should help expedite the process. This will bring those 3 to 5-pound trout that have been holding in deep water up into shallow water. The trout will follow the shoreline and feed on the surface throughout the cold winter months. Trolling anglers are still catching them in deep water from 70' to 100'. Trolling at faster speeds has been working well. The next couple weeks we will be having cloudy/rainy days. Typically brightly painted lures will work best under these conditions. Try using baits that have fluorescent green and orange on them. Gold and copper are good choices for blades. We can expect them to start to move up and anglers will be able to use a leadcore line or a top-line to catch them. Bank anglers should start to soak Power Bait and toss Kastmansters to catch some of the first fish that move shallow. During rainstorms, fish will pull into areas that have fresh flowing water. Look for drainage ditches and creek channels that have flowing water. We do encourage catch and release of brown trout, as there does not seem to be a large population of them in the lake. Carefully measure, weigh and photograph trophy fish and send us pictures and information.

      Kokanee
The season has come to an end and the kokanee will be spawning in the creek channels and upriver.

      Bass
The bass bite was a little better this last week and anglers reported catching some nice spotted bass. The bass are in transition from summer to fall as the water temperature cools. The next couple weeks we can expect them to be in more of a fall-like pattern. Many fish are holding in deep water and feeding on schools of shad. The shad should start to move up in the water column as we approach the winter months. Try fishing with reaction baits and lures that can be used to cover water. Small crankbaits, ripbaits and swimbaits are all good choices. Shad patterns work well, but on cloudy/rainy days try incorporating a few bright colors. If the fish are not willing to chase a faster moving presentation, try slowing down and fishing a presentation that will remain in their strike zone for a longer period of time. A vertical presentation can be used to keep the bait in the strike zone. Jigging spoons and dropshot rigs are both good choices. Some fish will be holding tight to the bottom and can be caught on a variety of soft plastics. There is quite a bit of brush lining the lake making a weedless presentation a preferred setup. Try using a Texas Rig or slowly dragging a jig across the bottom. PLEASE PRACTICE CATCH AND RELEASE. Take photos and carefully release the fish back into to the lake to maintain a healthy fish population for generations to come.

      Catfish
Glory Hole Sports Fall Catfish Contest will be going for the entire month of November. We are signing up contestants daily and will throughout November or until we reach 50-entrants. The fall is usually a great time of the year to catch large catfish. The catfish will feed heavily for the next couple months and bulk up for the colder winter months. They will act much like a bear and will hibernate during the winter, feeding much less. With the water temperatures dropping and the fresh rainfall running into the lake, the catfish will scour the shoreline. They will feed on small fish and crawdads that have moved up to feed on small insects that are washed into the lake. Try using frozen shad, mackerel and sardines to catch these fish eaters. Preserved crawdads are also a good choice. Catfish have very poor eyesight and will be drawn by scented baits. Dough baits can be fished alone or added to a frozen bait rig produce a more powerful scent. Night crawlers and chicken livers work well and can be soaked in Mike's Lunker Lotion or Power Bait Catfish Attractant.

      Crappie
The crappie bite has slowed, but a few anglers have reported catching some nice 2-pound slab. They will be holding in tall standing timber near deep water and feeding on schools of shad that swim past. Live minnows and mini jigs fish under a slip-float will work. Try fishing near the mouth of any of the major creek channels. As the water temperatures cool the crappie will school up and start to feed heavily on the shad that are migrating into creek channels. Follow the bait and the crappie will be nearby.

I haven't posted in a while because I really haven't been fishing much. My focus has been on other parts of my life. I've only been dabbling with some local large mouth bass fishing here and there.

Anyways, my friend invited me out to go fishing with him and another buddy on his boat this past Saturday. I couldn't pass up on a boat fishing trip, so I got everything geared up and ready to go.

We launched around 7 in the morning, and the first spot we stopped by was a great choice because we started getting hit right off the bat. Lucky Craft Sammy's were the hot bait of the day and the top water bite was on like Donkey Kong! It was only within the first hour or so where we had the flurry of action, and then the bite died. We're so busy catching fishing, I couldn't take pictures during the moment. The only thing I was thinking was to get back out on the water asap. We've caught probably around 10 each and missed many more. There's nothing like a top water bite. The stripers were so aggressive. If it missed the Sammy, it kept jumping at it till it got hooked. Most were 17-21 inchers. They weren't big, but they were very fun to catch on bass rods.

I highly recommend fishing at San Luis Reservoir right now. Catch the early morning bite. That is the key!

    • Water Temp: 62

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Showed up Sunday night & ran into some rainy & windy conditions. Ted & I got on the water at 11pm and because the wind picked up, we only fished for a few hours. I got a really fat 6.2 lber on a chatterbait right out of the gate in Konocti & thought it was on! Boy was I wrong! We managed a few more 2 lber's & that was it for the evening! We went out on Monday afternoon, got a few more small ones & then we literally got blown & rained off of the water after a few hours. I thought that we were done for the evening, but at 1am the wind laid down the the rain reduced to a drizzle, so we went out & caught 7 nice 3 lber's on a variety of different baits. No pattern, rythym or reason, but they were very tight to shore. Tuesday afternoon was pretty much the same as Monday, wind, rain & small fish. The night was really windy, so we elected to stay in. Weds turned out to be a bluebird day, so we started out at Wheeler Point & work our way up to Henderson, fishing a bunch of spots along the way. We caught a bunch of dinks & no big strikes at all. Had to come home Weds night, I'll bet all the big fish were hitting then & we had to leave! Lol

Tips: They seemed to be very tight to shore around weeds & rocks. We caught them on jigs, kinky beavers, flapping hogs, chatterbaits, lipless cranks, & deep diving cranks. The colors that worked the best for us had blue with green pumpkin. The weather really limited our fishing & probably suppressed the bite as well. It was still nice to be out on the water though. I would move around & I think when the weather stabilizes a bit, the fishing will take off! There is, like the previous post states, a ton of baitfish in the water. The 6.2 we caught looked like an overstuffed pinata!

    • Water Temp: 63

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Lots of sub 2lb fish anywhere from 5-20 ft deep. There eatin jigs and drops shot baits. Also LV 500's will work. Lots of bait in the water but they seem to want crawdads more then the shad. Pretty soon the swim bait bite should turn on.

    • Water Temp: 66-68

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I did a quick solo trip to Collins yesterday - testing the usual good fall topwater bite. It was on the hour before dark. The problem was -their accuracy in hitting my Chug bug wasn't very good. I missed several - one good one. They just wouldn't take it very good. It did land 3 spotted bass at 2 lb 13 oz, 2 1/4 and 1 3/4 lbs. I started about 4 pm and the late afternoon bite was dead.

Tips: I just followed the bass that were chasing shad and also fished some the of the submerged island tops. The middle of the lake and the east shore were best. Water was still pretty warm for late October!

Took the wife up there today, first time up since spring time, McClure PT ramp open, plenty of water to launch. A number of trucks at both launching areas but the lake seemed empty. No complaints here lol Water temp A.M. 65 to 68deg, lake had good color.
Found the shad balls and found the spots racing through them. Slow rolling spinner baits through them, both of us limiting out within half hour. Lots of fun for the wife, those spots pull hard, ranging from a pound and half to 3 lbs.
Take the wife and kids out, while theirs no yahoo's to ruin the day, :D Good luck
      Steve.

i know that it is cool to the touch and once you get down say 4 ft it really cools off, i would think low 60's during the day with sun, a maybe high 50's during late night - early morning ......fish are all over saw someone get a 4.4 there a few days ago biggest ive seen personally caught there....also great to see it released makes me think there could be a 7lb smallie & 9lb lrgmouth lots of smallmouth in there more than largemouth,,,,i have gotten 3+ no 4s yet! but i hear of 3 & 4s being caught there by ppl ppl who catch them are ppl going for bass with bass tackle so lucky us they know the importance of keeping it healthy i know if it stays c&r for the most part those fish have the potential to avr 2-3lbs ea that is if everyone was conservative.

Fish are hitting moving baits usually fast or really fast erratic
topwater buzzbaits spinners spinnerbaits jigs worms frogs.....also got a few on fly

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Launched at 6:45am at Lime saddle, breezy morning. Stopped at the first point on the left heading to N. Fork, and wham, picked up a nice 15" spot, no picture as the camera battery died, so let her go. Talk about breezy, just like last week, making my little boat act like a kite. Hate these days! Never made it to N. Fork, decided to find cover from the winds. Picked up 15 spots, with about half right at 14" today, the rest your basic 12-13" size. Second best fish 14 1/2" Lake levels never changed with the rains, still dropping 5-6" each day. Picture in fishing forum.

    • Water Temp: 67-69

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I took two clients to Berryessa today - and wished I had a sail on my Ranger!! The wind in the delta might have been slight, but there were white caps after 9 am at Berryessa - even in the narrows! My two clients were from Japan originally and one is returning on Monday. The other lives in California now. They spoke in their native tongue most of the time - wonder what they were saying about the fishing?? it wasn't very good and they missed a few bites. We did land a few decent bass and some dinks went on the bite in the afternoon. Did have some excitement when we got out the spoon rods. I dropped a Blade Runner 1 3/4 oz UV morning dawn down to the bottom, showing them how to work a spoon. Suddenly I am holding on for dear life as a non-dink took the spoon. Whoa Nellie!! She was a 5 lb spotted bass - my biggest spot at Berryessa. Wow - the bite should be great - right? Not!! They caught a few, but most were very small. One bass was a little bigger than the spoon!!

Tips: Robo worms were working some as were the spoons. They were throwing some of their own small crankbaits much of the time, and some other baits too. Not much action. The bait is still all over the place - from 10 to 50 feet! I think the water needs to cool a bit more before an active bite returns. Hard to judge the day - the wind was nasty!

    • Water Temp: 66-68

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Went out yesterday and braved the weather, to my surprise we did not get rained the whole day. A little wind but very fishable. Fishing was very tough only 2 bites for us ,1 nice 3#er and a dink on dropshot. Tried everything! I don't know if the lake is starting to turnover or what but it seems like it with the cool mornings now. The lake is full and looks great...Go Fish! We got off the water just in time cause it started pouring.

      Tips: None for this trip.

    • Water Temp: 64.3 - 66.7

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Launched at 7:30am dropped trolling motor in light rain. S/Waver over dying grass in shallow flats caught a few keepers. Fishing was great, catching was slow for the next couple hours. Mid depth crank, vibrate jig pick up two more. Around 11am went to deeper off shore flat and spooned around bait balls for a couple more, including the best fish of the day just over 2lbs.

Tips: The lake looked great, we just need over night temps to drop a little and full on fall bite will kick in. I think that is why there were only smaller fish being caught.

    • Water Temp: 66-69

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I was up at Bullards Bar last week with a friend for a few hours and found fishing quite slow with small bass only. We did fish during a hot afternoon. Yesterday I had a guide trip with a father/son team from Colorado - and found the fishing much better. We started about 7:30 am, and dad got started right away with a few better spotted bass - the biggest at 2 1/4 lbs. The bite was pretty good most of the trip as we landed around 50 spots. Even though the lake was flat calm with bright sun (typical late summer tough conditions), a hint of fall was in the size. Maybe 20 of the bass were in the 12 to 14 inch size - a sign that fall might be around the corner. In fact - winter may be here this Friday!! We fished out of Dark Day ramp and stayed mostly in that part of the lake. Only saw one other bass boat and two other pleasure boats - with one GREAT wake boarder - Wow!!

Tips: My two guys brought the "kitchen sink" - 8 rods and lots of baits. Some of their baits worked!! Drop-shotting was the main attention-getter with Robo worms of several colors working. Shad colors were great. Points were the best structure, along with shadowed walls in the afternoon. With the sun lower on the horizon now, one can fish lots of shade water. That will be a good plan until the lake gets some color - or clouds. The first clouds in several days rolled into Yuba City tonight! You probably know that all the trees are far above the waterline now.

    • Water Temp: 65

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Launched at 6:30 at lime saddle, off the lake at 11am. I knew the bite was going to be slow today after fishing the launch ramp area. Fish it every time, and if the fish are active around the ramp, the rest of the lake tends to be good, but not today. No fish at the ramp, so headed to N. fork and fished on the way. Only got 16 fish today, one here, one there, worked hard to get the 16 fish. All fish right around 13" today, except for the 14" one that decided it was hungry about 10:30, in bright sun, 30 ft or so. Slow bite for me today!! Picture in fishing forum.

      Water Temp: 65

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Went out of big break this morning and was surprised not to see a single bird in the air hunting for, letting along dive bombing for striped bass. Got out at slack low tide, beginning of incoming tide, around 1st light. After throwing top water plugs and walking too many dogs I heading into Dutch and took out my crank bait. Just fished the rip rap and went with the flow of the current. Very little wind, caught 12 striped bass almost legal, no little shakers, and released them all. Also caught about 8 black gass, largest to 2 pounds. Off the water at 11:30. The fish are biting deep red crawdad color.

Tips: Get out there early to enjoy the sunrise. Even if no birds there are plenty of fish in the system.

Water ranged from mid 60s to 70 degrees through out the day and depending on location.

Saw fish busting around the docks in Piper but not in any of the usual back-of-cove spots.

Can't tell if the Fall bite is on yet. Is it?
