Northern California Lake Fishing Report

      Report: I started out at the corner of the dam on the west side of the lake @ about 12:45. I tried a chartreuse shad spinnerbait and got one hit. I switched to a 4.5" Prizm Shad Roboworm on a drop shot and caught a 2lb. 4oz. I got a few more bites on the drop shot, but didn't conect with any of them. I tried a jig, dart head Flirt, and hula grub too but didn't even get touched. I went down a bit towards the back cove and caught a 1lb trout on a spinnerbait. Once I got in the back cove I started throwing the spinnerbait again and caught a 1lber. I worked the back cove pretty thoroughly witha various baits but didn't catch anymore. I then went to the back dock and caught a 1.5lber on the Prizm Shad worm. I went to the swim lagoon rocks and a caught a 1lber on a Bevy Shad ripbait and a dink on a drop shot. That was it and I left around 7pm.

      Tips: I don't have many tips to offer. I'm not really sure where the fish are or what they're doing. I can't seem to catch them as consistently as I have in the past few months. The fish are feeding on shad though, so use shad pattern baits.

      Report: Fished Club Tourny. out @ 0645 Saturday after a night of rain. Top water bite was on in 30 ft or less over rock piles. (babybass spooks)
      Once the sun came out dropshot the cliffs in 45-60ft. caught fish all day in all parts of the lake. I would fish a spot for two keepers and move. (brown/purple ROBO 6in) I caught one on a crank. Fished Sunday morn till 1000 NO top water bite, all dropshot.

      Tips: -Light line 8-12 Vanish
      -spooks in the morning from first safe light till the sun comes up.
      -Darthead or dropshot down around 60 feet and watch your fishfinder.

      Report: Launched at Black Pt. around 7am. Fished until Mr. Fish and Game docked along side (1pm) to cite us for not knowing the Delta/Bay required a stamp. Stamps for everything these days. California sucks. Got that off my chest. Anyway, not much luck today. 2 king fish, 1 stiper (15"), 1 bat ray (small-med.) Muddy waters due to big tides. Last week, clear waters - great fishing!

      Tips: Pick up 1/2 pound of shrimp from bait store ($8) across from launch (marina). Anchov's or herrin ok. Nothing like the shrump though!

      Report: fished the arroyo from the bank for a change, on sat. I got 10 fish in about 3 hrs, pretty much all dinks. On sun. I got 4 fish all about a pound except for the second cast that I made, almost 4.5 lbs.

      Tips: fished the weed islands with senko's and buzzbait, big fish inhaled a watermelon 5 inch senko

      Report: Too bad some people have to leave messages trying to get at other people. Some of us like to read what is going on at the lake, and don't care if they drop names of services, sponsors or gear. Just let us know how the water is and the fishing, quit acting like little kids.

      Report: Launched at 7:00A out of Paradise. Spent most of the day in Disappointment. No morning bite. Most of the fish caught after 10:00A. Off the water by 2:00P

      3 of us caught 18 keeper size bass (largest 3+ lbs) and 3 keeper size stripers (largest 6 lbs). Best 5 bass weighed around 13lbs. Most of fish caught on shad colored Rat L Traps close to weedline or over weedbeds.

      Tips: I used a 3/4 oz Rat L Trap for most of the day while my cousins used 1/2 oz. Bass are real aggressive -- we caught several bass that were about 4 in long on both size of traps. Use heavier trap if you want to get some striper action -- I caught 2 keepers and lost 2 others that were keeper size.

      Report: Tubed with 2 friends on Friday from 330 to 630 in Arroyo lake. Caught a total of 9 fish between the 3 of us, but nothing over 2.5 lbs.

      Basically went with a drop shot and 4 inch roboworm. About 12 to 18 inches between the worm and weight.

      If you want to catch fish, I suggest the drop shot above and fishing the weed walls. Fish all around the Arroyo "cul de sac". I always get good bites there. Most bass will hit the bait as it falls, so be aware.

      Report: Fished main lake 7:00AM - 11:00Am 5 largemouth keepers (1 1/2 - 3 1/2lbs}. Used RoboWorm brn/green with super slow stop and go retrieve, all released after weighing. Continued fishing thru afternoon didnt get another bite rest of day..

      Guess a early start might be the ticket..

      Report: Went fishn thurs with my buddy "mouth." Fished from 9-5:30 and caught about 30 fish with half of them less than 12". Our largest was just under 2#. Fished the main body around big island and across on the east side.Most of the fish were in the 20-30ft depths and were the result of dropshottn. Caught 4 fish on cranks, but that was it for reaction...Graphed alot of fish, but it was really hard to catch more than a couple without them moving or developing lock jaw...A beautiful day to be outout.

      Tips: the east side had zero bait activity. Across the lake had big balls of bait anywhere from the top to 35.' Caught fish on east and west side, with the west side producing slightly larger fish. One last hint, when you catch one, take your time before boating your fish, otherwise it will be barfing up shad all over your boat...keep it in the water and it will form a mini chum line.

      Report: I forgot to address the Anderson question. Well, for me it's been really tough gettin' the big fish to bite. Just gettin' the usual 100 dinks a day!!! I did finally find a good point that produced close to a limit with 3 pounds average except some good ones came un-buttoned. The drop-shot WAS NOT the producer of this event.

      Report: I kinda like Zacks reports people. I don't want to start anything bad, but I'm just being honest. Zack, gotta admit that you're kinda off-the-wall but that's o.k. by me 'cause at least you're posting. I wouldn't totally agree with you that the drop-shot method doesn't work because I have had success on it at Calero and other local lakes ; however, I wouldn't consider it my bread and butter technique. I've beat many friends and fellow anglers who swear by this method. I think the drop-shot craze is over-rated. I personally do best on the reaction baits and old-school plastic methods.

      Report: Not bad in the float tube. Caught a fish on first cast. Bite seemed to be non-existant in the morning, but by 11am, there was action. Used Senko's and weedless grubs in salt/pepper and pumpkin colors. Green worked well too. 30 total fish, about 9 over 14 inches; best fish at 18 inches. Fished until 2:30pm. Fish were in about 12 - 18 feet depths. Better fish hit in deeper water, dinkers hit close to shore.

      Tips: Sleep in and get on the water by 9. Fall pattern definately developing.

      Report: On the water by 0630 and at the Airstrip end fishing spinnerbaits and Pop-nR's - First fish around 7 on a Pop-nR - about 2.5lb. Fish were chasing shad and busting on top all morning til about 9. Second fish on a Zuri Floating minnow -casted right over some submerged brush and caught a 3.8lb around 8. Caught my third on a silver rattle trap right in front of the brush pile at 8:30 - 1.5lb. THen it slowed down. Shot to deer slope - the two islands near the dam bouy line - caught a couple drop shoting - lot of small fish - no keepers. End back where we started - throwing cranks - caught a bunch of dinks - Threw Pop-NR for the last hour - more dinks - off the water at 4. Caught about 15 for the day = only 4 keepers.

      Tips: THe morning bit is strong - look for the green tules with brush in front.

      Report: Since the crowds are down, I am going to start guiding Collins again! Took a father-son team there on Tuesday and we did fair. Dad hooked three bass and lost them all. His son landed a nice 2 1/4 lb spot on a Camanche Jack split-shot worm. He also got a small one. I managed 6 - 3 largemouth and 3 spots. Two of the largemouth were small but one was a keeper. Two of the spots were in the 2 1/2 lb range. The lake was very calm after early wind and that always make a clear lake tough. The evening bite wasn't very good either. Water needs to cool some. A storm this weekend may help the bite!

      Tips: A purple ghost worm was the best color. I threw jigs. but no takers. There were some small bass chasing bait in the middle of the day in the middle of the lake, but it didn't last long. No topwater action. Fishing will improve in last October!

      Report: The light winds have kicked up making the water a little stained. In the water at1 pm with Jim Malm and I fished up the North Fork just past Andersen Island finding some large balls of bait and a few spots, small bass and two blue gill drop shot. Moved around for the next fourth five minutes finding nothing. Out at 3 pm.

      Tips: Keep your fish finders on and look for bait with bass in 25-45 ft.

      Report: Got there about 2:30. Started out fishing the weedline with a beaver and rattle traps and caught 8 bass from 1.5-4lbs. plus a few missed bites.Once the sun got low stripers started busting all over the lake.I started throwing a spook into them and it was on!! I caught a fish on nearly every cast until it was damn near dark.Awesome afternoon and evening on the O'neill.Just try to catch and release! I know they're good to eat but this fishery has enough people keeping every legal fish they can get there hand's on.

      Report: Fished from 5:30 pm till 1:00 am, was unable to stay later. Fish were gorging themselves on shad like crazy but were tough to catch. We caught 2 on topwater and one or two on crankbaits. After dark bite was again S-L-O-W with only a few fish on black/chartreuse plastics and senkos. Probably caught 7 fish with biggest going 1.5 pounds - pretty impressive for a fall bite, huh? Had a good time anyway. Moon was at first quarter (half moon), winds were fairly strong for about 2/3 of the time and the air temp was pretty warm - warmer than last 2 trips.

      Tips: If you know how to catch the (smaller) bass going crazy on shad in the evening, then you'll do okay. I guess we should have tried spooning.

      The past few days have been very productive. On Thursday and Friday I went fishing with Jesse O. Thursday the water was like glass not a ripple in sight except for the fish boiling in the narrows. Jesse caught a 3+ lbs salmon and some nice bass trolling. Saturday I went out with Juan Z. It was a colder day and the water had changed considerably. The bass went deeper but he still managed to catch a couple of nice fish. Early Sunday my wife, me and Steve E. headed out for the vineyards where I had seen a large amount of bass swimming in one to two feet of water on Thursday. Steve was very successful drop shoting. My wife used brass and glass with a senco and I used a weightless senco and all of us were catching fish. When the wind came up we started to troll in about 25 feet of water through large balls of bait from the vineyards to the ranch house with huge success. We only stopped when we saw the fish boiling over the bait and threw crank baits into the boils with good results. The water temperature started out at 69 degrees and in some areas went up to 71 degrees. All in all it was a great few days of fishing and should only continue to get better and better.............'til next week good fishing!!!!!!!! www.fishingconnection.net 650-583-3333
