Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Fished from Mon - Friday from shore. It rained on Saturday and the weather is just beginning to warm up. Caught some smallies on senkos and cranks on Monday but then the fishing shut down. fished rocks and around by the Dam. Late evening, no fish activity on the water. Fished for trout as the mayfly hatchings were just beginning. Counted 28 float tubes and boats in one area each night where we were fishing. Plenty of good size trout on flies. Hatchings seem to occur at 8:30pm each night and last for 1/2 hr and then the bite stops. Caught SMB on flies also.
      City: South San Francisco

Tips: By Pratville, near the marina, there are two rocky peninsulas and the trout are holding right next to them each evening, waiting for the mayfly hatches. Using bobber with fly, cast out and retrieve very slowly. This action should last for 10 days. Weather was starting to get gloomy with forcast of 30% thunderstorm.

Report: David and I came in from to back today at about 11:30 AM and started out in the back cove and around the area where I caught the 7-15 yesterday. We saw a good 5lber. that was stalking some bluegill and it looked at David's jig but swam away. We went over to the corner by the dam and caught a few dinks drop shotting brown and watermelon worms. I caught a 2lb. 13oz. and a 1lber and David lost a nice one. We caught 2 more dinks and one 12inch keeper in the back cove on jigs and drop shot. We went to the dock and I cuaght a 1lb. 3oz. crappie! That was the last thing I was expecting to catch on a flippin jig. I caught a dink and a 1lb. 12ozer at the dock drop shotting and then we went by the lagoon. We were fishing frogs around the weeds but got now blowups. I started fishing a spot that David had already fished. I tossed in my Bobby Barrack Perfect Frog and slowly walked it with a short pause after each "step". A big fish absolutely crushed it from the side and I laid into her. I had her up and flopping on the shore within 7 seconds. She weighed 5lbs. 9ounces. Another big, beautiful, healthy fish. We fished some more weeds without any other blowups. I fished around the island and caught one dink flippin the tules. We made our last stop of the day at the boat ramp and I caught 3 more fish: a dink 12incher and a 2lber. I lost 2 others. One was about 1.5lbs and the other was probably 2. David lost a good one too on a jig on the boat ramp. Not too bad of a day with 19 fish caught including the crappie. I caught 12 bass and David caught 6. 7 of them were keepers. I'm finally getting some bigger fish now.
      City: Antioch

Tips: Brown/black jigs with red flake in the trailer fished around weeds, rocks, and tules in both shallow and deeper water. Brownish, watermelon red, and green pumpkin drop shot worms in a little deeper water with hard, rocky bottom. Frog in and around those weird weeds that are now in the water.

Report: Fished Thurs. through Sun. Thurs with clients and with the full moon it was pretty slow. He caught his biggest smallie ever on a crank and lost another at the boat. They're coming back again, on me. Friday, Lorraine and I took a tent and headed for Hay Gulch for some much needed R&R. The fishing Fri. was still slow but better than Thurs. Sat AM was good, found some shallow Blacks in the East Fork and a few good smallies on cranks in the tailings. I went back in at noon for some lunch and a nap and woke up to some pretty serious thunder. In keeping with the spring weather we've had this year it flat poured from about 2:30 till 5:30. It let up long enough to cook some steaks and then it opened up again. We decided that as long as it was only 35 min to our nice dry bed at home it was the place to be. We grabbed everything that looked to be bear bait and headed for the ramp. Got home and everything was dry as could be. Hadn't rained a lick. We've tried to get up there camping for 2 months now. Why me God?
I went back up Sun morn and fished till 11:30 and the fishing was fun. No hogs but constant action. Went back to the campsite and packed up. Crankbaits are finally working pretty well now, just like they always do in late April. The lake is still coming up, the water temp has finally hit 70, and the current which nullified any stratification of temps has stopped, we're headed away from the full moon, therefore I predict that this 4th of July will be one of the better Memorial Day weekends of fishing we've had in several years.
      City: Weaverville

Tips: Crankbaits were working pretty good over the weekend. I fish speed traps a lot and fish them like a topwater. Cast and let it sit. It'll amaze you how many blowups you'll have. A lot of them will be small fish, but every once in a while.........

Report: Haven't seen many reports, so I thought I'd post one for those who are interested. Went yesterday and fished from safe light til 2:30. Most of the day was like there was low lying fog as visibility was poor. Unfortunately it was smoke. Didn't seem to affect the fish as even tho there weren't any bigun's, we caught enough to keep our interest. Most of the fish related to points and were caught between 8-21' with most of our fish coming on various plastics. West and east side produced. The smallies looked like they've been feeding better the lmb. Nothing over 2#, but it was fun. Tubes, yum baits, power worms and jigs all seem to work.
      City: orinda

Tips: If there's no wind like yesterday, expect it to be very HOT! The fog/smoke kept the sun to a minimum, but it was still pretty warm.

Report: Fished camache on sunday and had an ok day. Dropshoted China Gulch and got one trout. Then the boat traffic got terrible (as usual) so we fished the no wake zone. Got nothing there. Then we hit up all the submerged islands with trees on they and got 14 in the range of 1lb-3lb. GGot them dropshottin a finesse worm right in the trees.
      City: cv

Tips: Fish all the islands were the hazard bouys are. Also dropshot all the sunken trees.

Report: I was a busy guy Sat.late-afternoon and night as I guided a husband-wife team and her father. He didn't have much fishing experience and struggled with his casting, but got much better by the end of the 6 hr trip! I was REALLY worried about the wind because of the cold front, but for once it wasn't bad - just a stiff breeze. We started fishing Dead Ringers about 6:30 pm in weed patchs around the narrows and after an hour it was wife-3, husband and guide-1 each! She was good!! We wound up with 7 before dark - averaging about 2 lbs. After dark, I had them using slippery Dead Ringers (Smelly Jelly) and I tried a brush hog to see if that was the night ticket. A funny thing happened a while later - my client heard a fish jump on the other side of the boat - I thought it might be a carp. Tried to feel my black/red brush hog and couldn't. The bass now decided to jump in front of the black light and by gosh - I was connected to it!! My drag is usually locked with my 30# Fireline and this bass is pulling out line. We got her in and she was 6 lbs even! A perfect specimen - she looked liked she hadn't spawn, or spawned months ago and was totally healed and well-fed. Not a typical Clear Lake post-spawn bass. No, I wasn't asleep - I don't know where that bass came from!! I gave the husband a brush hog and he soon caught a 3lb plus bass. The wife was back at it - hooked one and gave the rod to her dad - and he lost it. She had some others on but couldn't get them in the boat. We wound up with 12 bass in our shorter trip with the top 5 going 15 1/4 to 15 1/2 lbs.
      City: Yuba City

Tips: Because of 4 people in the boat, options were limited to plastics, jigs, and bait like that. I did crank a bit to see if anything was happening - it wasn't. We found some bass very shallow but most were off-shore in about 10 feet of water. Rocky bottoms helped. It looks like weeds are back this year - so far. If hot weather ever comes to Clear Lake and enhances more algae bloom, the weeds may slow. It is going to be interesting to see what the summer patterns will be like this summer. Frogs, anyone?!!

Report: I came in from the back today at about 3:20 PM and started fishing past the back cove toward the dam. I started off using a 3/8oz. Black Brown Spice Booyah Boo Jig with a Watermelon/Red Smallie Beaver as a trailer. After a couple minutes I hooked a dink on my jig but lost it after it came flying out of the water when I was reeling it in. I snapped my jig off but was able to get it back and tied it back on. I moved over to the next little opening 10ft down and flipped my jig into the clump of those wierd weeds (that grew on the shore when the water level was lower) about 7ft in front of me and let it sink down on a slack line. I picked it up to yo-yo it in the weeds and I felt some weight and then a tug and I set the hook and this big bass comes leaping out of the water. It splashes back down and tries to bury into the weeds, but I keep good pressure on her and I get her headed to the surface and away from the weeds. As I'm fighting her I try to bring her over a floating tree branch but she gets stuck and I couldn't move her so she kinda just flopped back in the water and I got her away from the branch and turned her around and she was headed towards my thumb. I lip her and put her on my digital scale and she weighs in at 7lbs. 15ounces! That's my biggest fish so far this year! She was healthy and I could tell she had spawned a while ago because the scarring on her tale was hardly noticable and she wasn't skinny. I called my sister and had her take some pictures. I'll try to post them on the photos section. That was all I caught because I stopped fishing basically after I let her go.
      City: Antioch

Tips: Brown/Black jig with a trailer with some red flake in it.

Report: Fished reaction baits throughout the morning and found alot of followers instead of eaters. Caught some fish off of the face of the dam on a spinnerbait and dartheaded a 2.5# in the west corner of the dam. Bladed a 3# out on the penninsula as well as seeing more followers. Ended the morning dartheading 4 off of Doton's point, which BTW is loaded with so much bait you can see the cloud on your Fish finder and literally see them swimming all around the boat. Topwater still slow to get going, but hope it wll get along soon.
      City: Roseville

Tips: Darthead shad colors and subtle colored reaction baits.

Report: Took my 3 year old daughter out for 3 hrs in my 14ft Gregor and used the trolling motor and fished for bass and crappie but no luck on the launch ramp side of the lake so I decided to head in at 7:30 and put the trolling motor on 5 and started trolling a blue/silver cast master and caught a trout, hey better than nothing:)
      City: San Jose

Tips: The last time I fished here I fished the freeway side and did well but that was 5 years ago:), 5 years ago I did well on 3 inch power grub and caught 15 bass and 15 crappie, did not get bit this time. I did here of a few crappie being caught where the water comes into the lake according to the ranger. Castmaster for trout:)

Report: Fishing for blugil in the marina was red hot off meal worms. We were on float tubes dropping it down and within seconds there would be a fish on. I think total we probably caught over a 100 blugils all released.
      City: riverside

Tips: Use tiny(tiny) hooks with no weight. Also try flipin a trout worm for big blugil and small bass.
