Collins Lake
-
Water Temp: 62-64
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Ater the drastic weather change I was anxious to see i the jig bite had started at Collins. I had a chance last week to ish the lake on Wed and Fri or about 3 to 4 hours, and guide there on Sat or about 4 1/2 hours. Sat was a near wipeout as we ished in a windtunnel most o the time - at least it didn't rain. One o the clients who hasn't bass ished beore blanked but his riend landed 4 nice spots on Camanche Jack's morning dawn worms. His biggest was right at 2 pounds. I landed a 2-2 on a jig and a smaller one on a worm. We really would have done better but there is no escaping a strong south wind at Collins when the lake is down (35 eet). The other two days ound good ishing and I was pleased to see hal my catch were largemouth - a couple at 2 1/4 and 2 1/2 pounds. The jig bite was "on" Wed and I landed 8 - lost about 6. Fri was slower with the two big largemouth caught on morning dawn worms. I ished the river arm mostly and also had several main body areas set or my clients, but they were all blown out. Most o the bass on all trips were caught rom 10 to 25 eet. There were some big ish deeper, but I didn't really try or them. Next time!!
City: Yuba CityTips: I think the shad population is up this year. Nearly every ish is ull o some kind o bait - one spot spit up several shad. These are the attest all bass I have ever caught there. I am hoping soon the big ish will become more active. I am ready to nail another trophy spotted bass!

Report: went ishing or about an hour this evening just to mess around. I caught one 14" bass on a Rat-L-Trap along some rocks. had another ish clobber a blk/red jig, but immediately dropped it. hey david, ya know, we were nice enough to give you some good tips to put you on some more and better ish on this lake, and now you're givin' some pretty vague reports. The purpose o the reports section is to help out other anglers or their upcoming trips. I you're going to be so vague about what you're doing out there, then there's no point in making the reports. JMHO
City: AntiochTips: The ish are really loading up on craws right now...

Report: The cover program is a go. Saturday January 10th 7:30 am 2004 will meet at Quarry as we did last year. we will have coee and donuts sponsored by BBAC, then drive down to the loading site and start dumping trees. We estimate 1000 trees at Quarry. Anyone that lives close to a x-mas tree lot please spread the word to call Pete Alexander at 510-258-2211 to arrange drop o. BBAC will provide receipts or the lot owners so they not only get the write o but do not have to pay to dump the unsold trees. Its a win win or everyone. Ater the dumping, we will all go to quarry lakes Ensonata Picnic area or the BBQ o Tri Tips and the works or lunch at 2pm sponsered by the parks dept. Volunters are asked to wear boots and bring gloves to help. So dress appropriatly or the weather. I hope to see a good turnout

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Well, hit the old Delta today with a buddy. We launched out o Vieras with visions o salmon. The people we talked to said the ishing was bad so we decided to try or the smallmouth we heard that lived around there. We headed up past Snug harbor and ished rom 8 to about noon with no takers. Slowed down and went a little deeper (10-12t) and started getting ish on various t-rigged plastics. Best one went 4.5 with a 2 and a bunch more dinks. I even got a 1.5 Smallmouth, my irst ever in the Delta! Headed back to Vieras with no luck. Decided to ish around that area beore heading in. I threw on a spook, a ew casts later and my lure got slammed by what turned out to be a 22" squawish. My irst one o those as well.
City: Walnut CreekTips: Go slow!!!!!! Fish a bit deeper, all our ish were on structure ie wood ,rocks etc..

Report: 3 o us launched at Wimpy's at 8AM. Went to our avorite slough and started throwing RatLTraps. My 2nd toss, I hooked what I thought was my biggest bass ever. Ater a 5 minute battle, it was a 15+lb salmon. An hour later, we had 6 salmon in the boat (15-21lbs). Released 3 others and lost at least 6 more. Kept tossing RatLTraps until 3PM. Also caught 2 stripers (biggest - 12 lbs) and 2 bass (1.5 lbs each).
City: dixonTips: Rat L Traps...Rat L Traps...Rat L Traps. Any that imitate a shad. Upgraded original hooks to Owner 4x size 4 and orginal split rings to heavier rings. We lost salmon the previous weeks because rings ailed.
