Contra Loma Lake

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Started o real slow. Moved past island towards west. First ish landed was a 4.5 lb ish! My biggest ish so ar. Next ish was at the dock ater the island 1.5 approx. maybe a tad smaller. Just past the dock I got hammered. I knew it was big I never have had a bass bend my rod like this. Was nervous, tried to hog it in, drag was too tight, got sight o it right at my ins and SNAP! There is a very large bass with a 2/0 Gama hook in it's jaw swimming around. Let me know i you catch it.I am guessing 6lbs. plus. Would have been my irst ish over 5. Ater the intense rustration passed I headed towards rock wall. Sun started to all so I headed back. I wanted to go urther up to small cove at ar corner o lake to try some topwater as Tom recommended but time was running short. Went back to area near bridge past island where I got the 4.5 and immediately landed another 3.5 lber. First thought it might be same ish but marking and total length were dierent once I landed it. On way back started cranking shallow. Landed 2 lber just outside o the island. Landed 0ne more on the shallow crankbait about a pound. Lost about 5 other ish. Happy with end results. really would have liked to have known actual weight o that ish. Broke 12lb. Mccoys. Will be replaced with stronger line asap!!

Report: Arnold you can believe what you want, just because you can't catch bass. We had 2 days that we were there that between the 2 o us we caught 100+ bass ( that is 50+ each ). Why is that hard to believe, we spent 6 days on the lake rom sun up to sun down which gave us plenty o time to igure out the pattern. No we don't catch that many very oten but sometimes you get there just at the right time. Why would I make it up. You have a nice day and just because you are board and have nothing to do don't stur up trouble.
City: Hayward, CaliorniaTips: Get a lie. At least I put my real name and a e-mail address i I was making it up I would be like you and be annonomous.

Clear Lake
-
Water Temp: 58-61
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: My brain was on overload driving over to Clear Lake yesterday - Saturday - thinking what in the world would I suggest to my clients with the summer to winter pattern we experienced in 48 hours. As one o my riends said: Autumn was last Wednesday! What would the bass be up to? I suggested we start at 9:30 am and ish 'til dark - taking advantage o any warming there was in the aternoon. Again, that worked or us! Ater launching in the still cold morning, I started showing them some areas in the Clear Lake Oaks arm and we started catching ish about 10 am. We drop-shotted several, including my biggest at 3-9. The other client nailed a 3 pounder. They both wanted to learn to ish jigs better and we did get a ew, with lots o tail-biters. Man, they love that Yamamoto #180 grub tail!! As I expected, the crank bite was slow but I did catch one on a Terminator spinnerbait about 2 1/2 pounds. We ished the south end with very slow results - even up to 4 pm. I was getting worried about my promise o better things to come. Suddenly someone turned on the switch and the jig bite was on! We caught 8 in the last hour with one o the guys boating his biggest jig ish ever - at 3-13. We probably had 20+ hits, but some were small ish I'm sure. We really had un on a bright chilly day, landing 17 bass with a biggest ive limit at 15 1/4 pounds - a real nice surprise or a trip that we were pretty unsure about. Since I was helping them prepare or a tournament - we looked around a lot in addition to ishing and still had a great day. We didn't get a big bite but I really wasn't expecting one. We talked to two other guys coming in and they only had 2 or 3 ish, but they said they did nail a 6 pounder.
City: Yuba CityTips: Since they are ishing an upcoming tournament, I won't be speciic about what we were using or where we ished. I looked careully to see i the sudden cold weather had cleared the water any - not so ar! Some o the bait had dropped down to deeper water, though there were still Silversides on the surace. It was un watching 5 to 7 inch bass chase the bait - no wonder they are at!!! There are a lot o big ish - some have to be bass - in the 30 to 45 oot depth. Dragging a big worm in deep water could really yield a monster. I noticed that a lot o bass that had been drop-shotted under docks have moved out - somewhere - probably to the nearest ledge. That bite had really slowed or me in the last two trips.

Water Temp: ???
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Went out o Vierra's on Saturday around 9am. There were a ton o Salmon Anglers around. We, however, were searching or Largemouth and Stipers. I started with a Chartreuse Spook Jr., my buddy Aron was tossing a Chrome RatLTrap, and my other riend Bob was using a Lucky Crat Pointer (yellow w/white).At around 9:15am, Aron sticks a 4lb Striper (Bob switches to RatLTrap). At 9:20am, Bob sticks a 13lb Stiper (Greg switches to RatLTrap). Ater that, nothing or about three hours but a couple o hal-hearted strikes. Around Noon, I hook a 2+ lb Largie o some Tules(Still using a trap). An hour later, I catch a Sacramento Pike (one ugly ish) o a Chrome w/Yellow w/Orange RatLTrap and then on the next cast caught a dink Largemouth. Then around 2pm, Bob caught a 4lb Striper on Chrome w/blue RatLTrap. All-in-all, less ish than we had hoped, but had a un day out on the water. Best ive went 25lbs (mostly on the back o that nice 13lber).We stayed airly close to Vierras and Rio Vista the entire time and threw mostly traps the entire day. We did spend a little time casting JigsNpigs (purple), Spooks, and Sencos (Watermelon).Greg H.Orangevale, Ca.ggh4@pge.comP.S. Saw some nice Salmon being caught (both Wigglewart and Quikish). Probably 1 or 2 per boat (some in the 22lb range).
City: OrangevaleTips: Looks like the Stiper bite was on early and we just caught the tail end. Throw bigger traps and hang on.

Report: The water is VERY LOW!!! Be very careul where you go and make sure you know the depth. I almost got stuck and ruined my outboard in a very shallow part o the lake (in the narrows). My ish inder said it was about 1 oot deep. From then on, I stayed close to the water's edge.On to the ishing. I didn't catch anything. I got one bite going or striper, but didn't get anything else. I saw a ew others catching trout, but no bass were to be ound.
City: HaywardTips: Go to the Delta and catch some striper and salmon right now beore they're gone.

Water Temp: 60+
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: 6 boats, 12 anglers ished a club tournament on 11/1/2003. Clear water, clear sky, cool day. water temp in the low 60's. quite windy. We caught a lot o small ish but only 4 o us caught 5 keepers (13" or longer).I did not go north o Moccasin in Tuolumne River as originally planned because it did not seem it would make a dierence where we ished. Instead, I ished:1. Rocky walls north o Graveyard Creek2. Sole piece o rock at Red Mountain Bar3. Stuck-up bare trees across rom Red Mtn. Bar4. Island across rom and South o the Aquaduct Islands5. Buzzard PointMe and Scott caught many small ish but only one keeper each at spot 4 above. We drop shot with shad color innesse lures and 4-1/2" straight tail Aarons Magic worms. I caught the big ish, all 1.68 lbs o it. It was that tough.
City: ChatsworthTips: Fsih 17' i you want to catch small ish. Fish deeper i you want keepers. No guarantees.

Water Temp: 65
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Ater the irst cold ront o the year, the bite seemed to improve. Caught about 20 keepers between 1.5 and 2 lbs. Much better than the previous week. There is a reaction bite early, then dropshotted ater that. Most ish came on points between 15 and 35 eet. You can see ish on every point with your graph but you work hard to get them, still heavily eeding on shad and not very committal to baits, but getting better.
