  • Report: Fishing Update Courtesy of Fisherman's Warehouse - Sacramento

Salmon bite is doing well, anchor fishing or trolling using Silvertron Spnners and FLatfish at Verona. The double blade UV Silvertron with Chartruese and Silver Blade or the all silver Double Blade with Green and Pearl Beads. The Green Head/Silver Body Flatfish is doing well also.

Salmon jigging in the Sacramento from Miller Park to Clarksburg has been very good. With the majority of the bite being in the early morning or evening (4 to dark). Blade Runner Tackle Spoons, Silvertron Slammers and P-Line Laser minnows are working the best in the 2 to 3 ounce size. Electric Chicken or Dark Emerald from Blade Runner Tackle, Black with Copper Flake from Silvertron Slammer and P-Line laser Minnows in Purple and Black and the Chartreuse and Silver.

Striped Bass bite in the Delta, trolling and on bait is going good. P-Line Angry Eyes and Yo-Zuri have been the best producers. They are not picky shallow or deep trolling.

Water Temp: Electronics are disabled. I bet it's about 68-70

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fished Big Break this morning and the sky was cloudy with birds diving for bait fish. They were solidly in the skies hunting for 45 minutes. A few boils and caught 2 stripes using a chrome and black RT. Both fishies were almost legal. About 4 other boats in the area. Tried top water and swim baits but no takers, so moved into Dutch and fished the rip rap with a Storm crank bait, crawdad color, and caught 8 striped bass, nice size, 2 of which were about 20 inches, the rest were borderline legal but nothing smaller. Also caught 4 large mouth bass the biggest was about 3 pounds. The others were about 1-1.5 each. Fished from 7:15-10AM, then off the water 'cause the bite turned off.

Tips: It's all about the morning bite. Get out on the water for sunrise. 15 minutes can make the world of difference. Keep an eye out for floating timber. For some reason there's a bunch of floaters out there.

  • Report: by Sharpshooter » Wed Sep 28, 2016 10:28 am

Awesome me and the family went out last nite and caught stripers to 20". We just look for the birds .When they boil its a lot of fun . Also got 2 bass on a jig. Last week I caught a salmon fishing for bass with a jerk bait and it weighed 14.2

  • Report: by Whoopbass » Wed Sep 28, 2016 8:44 am

I was fishing the Stockton area yesterday and hooked about a 12# salmon. Got it to the boat but couldn't get it in. I saw two more salmon surface within an hours time of fishing this area. It bit a shad patterned Stike King crankbait that dives about 4-5'. So if your out fishing you might want to have some type of flatfish type lure tied on or a lure that doesn't dive very deep laying on the deck and pay attention to any large heads briefly popping out of the water.
I wasn't going to keep it anyways but a pic would have been nice.
There is also some small schoolie stripers that can be caught. They can be a pain to unhook and release but when the bass fishing gets slow they're fun to catch.
Bass fishing was kinda slow for me yesterday but I only went to a couple areas. Probably caught 4-5. I couldn't make up my mind if I wanted to salmon, striper, or bass fish.

    Water Temp: 69 degrees

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Went out of Big Break Marina at the beginning of incoming tide with a good friend of mine to fish for striped bass and Large Mouth. Put in around 7:15 and flew over to Dutch. My buddy threw his rattle trap before I could even get the trolling motor down and he caught a small dink, but a very good sign. He ultimately caught about 7 SB on a red crawdad colored RT. His largest striper was probably 16 inches. I had no luck fishing for stripes on top water fishing with a Whopper Plop. Switched to a RT, same color, caught 2 but never got 'em in the boat. It was pretty windy so we moved further into Dutch and began catching a few 2-3 pound LMB on wacky rigged worms in motor oil color. The bite turned off around noon and the wind kicked in so we high tailed it back to the marina.

    Tips: Key Tips

    1) Don't let your fishing buddy sneak up on you and cast before you do to land that first fish
    2) Keep the flask at arm's reach versus at the bottom of the cooler
    3) Follow the marine weather report and don't take chances when you're in a wind protected area. It can get ugly out there so make sure you take every rolling wave one at a time, because they are all different

Report: Had a good few days out in Tracy, found a few active fish on a LV on weedy points. Once the bite slowed picked up a little swim bait worked the same areas and slaughtered them for 23# for 5. Went out again tried to get some topwater going, lot of strikes no hook ups. Decided to flip, right decision. Started catching immediately. A little way down a favorite bank flipped in and landed a nice 8#er (see photo) ended the evening with a solid limit of 25# with another couple good bass.

Trout are biting on nightcrawlers at Channel Point, near the swim area, or from a boat. Drifting bluegill is leading the way for bigger fish but Flukes and Swim baits are also working.

Contra Loma –Still big bass grabbing baits! Whopper Ploppers lead the charge. Try fishing for catfish at Channel Point, Loma Island or from a boat with nightcrawlers or chicken liver. Trout are biting on nightcrawlers at Channel Point, near the swim area, or from a boat. Try fishing for crappie or bluegill with jigs or worms at the boat ramp area, Loma Island or Channel Point area.

Los Vaqueros The Best bet is fishing with cut baits with all the hungry small stripers and catfish around. Trout are a bit slower but still caught in South Cove and Oak Point as well as Peninsula Cove. The baits of choice for shore anglers is garlic scented PowerBaits, nightcrawlers or Kastmasters. Trout average a pound and a half but range to over 5 lbs. Light tackle is important for catching trout with 4-6 pound test being plenty. With the continuing plants, trout fishing has been ok with some limits being caught from all around the reservoir.

  • Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Launched out of the delta loop an hour before high tide and fished potato, Columbia cut and venice all north facing rock levees with tules. Spooks and popper were working early. Some short strikes, but there was also some violent top water hook ups. Around eight thirty things got slow and I picked up a blue gill vibrating jig and never put it down until snapping my trolling motor rope. Caught around thirty bass up to 4/12 pounds and a half dozen small strippers. It was nice, there was not a lot of boat traffic around me all morning, just me and my spoiled yellow lab. Off the water by eleven.

Tips: I caught more than a few of my fish after casting to the same patch four to seven times.

Didn't get out on the water until 7:30. New (to me) boat and took a little time to get set up. In my excitement I also forgot to release one of the trailer straps in the back before launching!

Ran all over the place; out to White Slough, down to Mildred, etc. But finally got on some good fish. Managed a 6, 4-9 and a 3 plus many dinks. All the quality fish came on the Senko.

Water ranged from 71-79 degrees. Clarity was chocolate soup to stained.

Looked for healthy hydrilla everywhere (see 2nd paragraph) and could not find it. If anyone would PM me some hints here I'd appreciate it!

Good results for the maiden voyage of my new ride. I'm selling the Bass Tracker. If you're interested see here:
