  • Water Temp: 56

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Launched out of Wimpy's and fished the back half of the sloughs that run out to the east. Fished the A-rig all afternoon and landed nothing but stripes all day. All caught in 8-12 ft of water and fished it as close to bottom as possible. 5 fish that went 6.5 -7.8 lbs and another 5 in the 3-5lb range. Rigged up shad pattern paddle tails for the most part. I used 6 different plastics throughout the day and they were eating just about anything I stuck on the rig.

Tips: Anything that mimics the bait fish that are back in the sloughs is gonna get bit. Bigger fish are definitely out off the bank in deeper water. Look for the birds and rip rap with spaced out tule patches.

Discovery Bay Where did they go? Stripers that had been starting to group up in the Marina side seem to have disappeared. Have faith! • Water Temp: 62

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: On the water at 1200 fished primarily sycamore slough. Pretty steady breeze today and sunny, found a decent spinner bait bite on wind blown side of the tule islands. Mostly 1.5- 2 lb fish there. Moved back in the slough and got on a insane crank bite in shad pattern deep diving. Caught 20+ fish during that last 2 hours of the outgoing tide. All came on windblown rip rap banks in 6-12 ft of water. Fish in the 2-3 lb range and then landed one that went 6.8 right at dusk. Quite a few blow ups in the area but the crank bite was to good to switch to topwater.

Tips: All fish caught were caught while bumping the deep diving crank off the bottom. Pausing and then fast cranking on snags draws most of the hits. Fished parallel to the shore to keep it on bottom the while time in the 10ft range

  • Report: From Cooch's Fishing October closed out last week with the Delta bass moving up and starting ta chew. Water temps have settled into the mid 60s and stablized driving active fish into the shallows and grass bed in numbers. The baracade in False River has been removed and current flows through Franks Tract and the middle part of the River are back to normal. Days of fighting through 50 dinks ta git a decent limit have been replaced with days of catchin 20+ keepers in the 2-6 pound range. The bigger fish for us have become more active later in the day after noon time. Active fish are now chasing down liplwess cranks and ripbaits fished over the top of the grass on the higher tides. As the tide begins to fall, the bigger fish are starting to position on the grass line breaks in 5-9 foot and are snapping both Jigs and a Yamamoto Kreature. Green pumpkins and Watermelon reds are working best and ya need to rotate between em constantly as their preference changes spot to spot, hour by hour. If yer not getting bit, or catching short fish, keep moving and cover water to find those bigger active fish that are schooling up.

  • Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Got out for a fun Halloween fishing run. Caught alot of rats on top water. Had some decent blowups with no hookups on froggy though. Water is getting cooler, saw a salmon swimming in old river. Lots of stripers to play with everywhere. The hyacinth is thick in some areas, careful of logs in the stuff.
    Most of all....Have fun !

    Tips: STOP THE TUNNELS

  • Report: Coochs Fishing
After three weeks of battling undersized dinks every day on the Delta, the cool weather of fall finally drops the River temps below 70 degrees. By Sunday, 67 degrees greeted us in the morning and the afternoon highs peaked at 69.5. Add to this the removal of the barricade in False River, we now have normal current flows in all areas from Franks down to Disco Bay and areas off Old River. This has brought up a larger group of fish who are now going on the fall feed. In weeks past, you could punch all day and catch some very nice fish, yet the affects of the past three weeks of spraying the surface canopies, has had a drastic, negative affect on that bite in many of the good areas where punch fish were being caught. The topwater bite had been very good as well, especially with that Whopper Plopper and Spook, you could stick it out in the right areas and also acquire 5-7 really good bites tossing it all day. Yet the cool mornings and temp drops paired with the spraying, has hindered that bite as well. The one constant through all this for us has been the deeper jig bite, where we have been catching quite a few fish in the 5-9 pound range in 10-18 feet. With the recent cool down of the water temps, and the return of normal current flows to the middle Delta, the fish have become more active and are willing to hit other baits like the dropshot, T-rigger Kreature, Paddle tails and lipless cranks, along with that jig. The timing for this bite couldn't have come at a better time for me as my clients of the past 4 days have been inexperienced bass anglers, who just wanted to catch fish and have a great time on the water. Yet the more experienced anglers looking to improve their Delta fishing, get to see great results when targeting bigger fish with the jig. That great fall bite is finally here!

Report: ***WARNING****FALSE RIVER DAM NOT OPEN****

Contrary to the WB report I fished the Delta yesterday, I attempted to cross the False River Dam area and was immediately red-flagged and told to go back. Although they removed the floating rope with buoys IT IS NOT SAFE TO CROSS!!!

That said my fishing buddy and I went the long-way around from Big Break to fish around Little Frank's. The Striped bass bite was not on in the morning, no birds, nothing taking any rattle-traps. A fellow fisherman did catch legal limits using blue-gill. We traced our way back to Big Break via Taylor Slough, caught a few, then back into big break to catch about 10 LMB, biggest about 2pounds. Fished wacky style.

  • Water Temp: 68-70

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Launched Paradise and went straight to Middle River dodging all the hyacyinth along the way.. oh well! threw suspended spot lipless and picked up a bunch of 10"-12" over the weed beds in 5' -9' and and then picked up a couple of 2lbers, then a couple 3lbers....then back to 12"ers. We saw that many more follow the baits all the way to the boat...funny to watch them either streak by or grab the bait for a second and go crazy to shake free. Worked our way all around Little Connection to Disappointment for a few more 1 and 2lbers and quit at 330pm. We tried 14mile Slough briefly with a couple on traps but water was stained so we went back to St Francis and Middle River and hung out before hittling Disappointment on the way back to Paradise. Only a few on jigs, D-Bombs, and Stik-O's in black neon (blk/red flk) so the majority were boated on lipless cranks in orange/yellow belly.

Tips: Not really qualified to give tips but here's what we figured...bass were hangin' in the weed beds so we slow retrieved suspending cordell spots and just did the Rick Clunn thing... nipping the tops of the weeds and not even ripping it when we felt it...we just paused if we felt the weed tops, then slow-rolled and confirmed vibration and wham, the strikes were aggressive. Since I was up front on the trolling motor, it was great using a suspending lipless so when I had to pause and hit the remote, I wasn't worried about my lipless sinking into the weeds...I could pick up where I left off. Oh well, worked for us. I LOVE crankbaitin'.... but gotta get better at jig fishin'..... advice welcome.

    Water Temp: 71

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Launched at Wimpy's around 8:00AM. Fished the South Mokelumne River toward Sycamore Slough. Since it was still the outgoing tide, I decided to throw a top water lure, River2Sea Whopper Plopper 90, in the color powder. My cousin was throwing a small crayfish looking crankbait. On both of our first 2 casts, each of us caught a small size bass. We were casting over the top of weed beds/flats or the edges of the weeds. We made our way down the Mokelumne and went into Hog, Beaver, and Sycamore sloughs. We spent most of the day throwing these lures. Caught 11 keeper size bass (biggest 2.5 lbs) and probably 50+ small bass. I even caught a 6 inch turtle on the whopper plopper. Off the water by 1:00PM.

The back part of both Beaver and Sycamore sloughs were covered with hyacinths from bank to bank. The front part of Sycamore slough looked like it was sprayed because there was a lot of dead hyacinths, but the back part was a different story.

Tips: We were using 50lb or 65lb braid. We had to pull most of the fish out of the weeds. We fished top water or shallow running lures most of the day. I had changed the hooks on the whooper plopper to heavier hooks. The front hook was a VMC 4X red treble hook while the tail hook was a custom made dressed Owner 4X treble (white feathers with red flash). The dressed tail hook made the lure tail heavy so the lure didn't float while it was sitting idle, but the action was great when it was retrieved.

  • Water Temp: 75

Report: Got on the water today around 10:30 and the bite was good until around 2:30. Swimming jigs along grass and tule clumps seemed to work okay. Pitching jigs and letting them fall to the base of targets really hasn't been working for me. I caught several nice fish off a 6" hollow body swimbait rigged on a weedless jig head. The water is pretty clear and there is a lot of bait in the water so in order to get bites off the swimbait I had to work it fast and violent. Its a reaction bit and they take it deep. Biggest fish today was pushing 5lbs. The evening bite was not there so I am going to try and get out earlier next time.

Tips: There are a lot of 12" schoolie stripers out there right now so if you have kids it would be a good time to take em. I caught a bunch off a 1/2 oz team daiwa vibe in the ghost/olive color. The biggest problem with catching these small stripers is removing them from the hook. BE CAREFUL.

    Water Temp: 72 degrees

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fished Big Break on Saturday, out at first-light fishing for some striped bass. At 7:45 the bait fish were popping and the water started to boil at the entrance to Dutch and caught about 7-8 fish on chrome/black rattle trap. Largest was about 20 inches, but most about 12 inches. Rolled into Emerson and caught about 15 LMB ranging in size from dink to 2 pounds, fishing with wacky Trick worm. Off the water by noon before the temperature hit 90 degrees.

Tips: When the birds start hunting get ready to pick-up your trolling motor and gun it to the first sign of popping bait fish.

  • Water Temp: 72-76

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Got out again on Sunday @ about 7:30 with all intentions on refining my punching skills so just started right from the ramp of oasis (figuring on the fresh release of the tournament fish) to no avail. Haf a little current tossed the swim jig out and picked up two 2lbers so i figured I'd troll around and find em with that then flip the grass around them. More dinks. Figured I had too much weight for flipping the grass clumps so started pitching a white jig hit an outside bend with overhanging bamboo with a clump of grass and my line was under the boat in a hurry, set and a nice 3.75. Tried to duplicate that but couldn't. Went out to the main channel to flip the grass and mats picked up 2 3lbers on the outsider grass but again couldn't put it together. Lots of boats can't wait for the rain

Tips: None. Just read my previous report and it seems like the big one's are sticking real close and in that deeper water only to come up briefly, from there who knows.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Man the bite is so much different on the weekends with the traffic. Had a Saturday tourney, it was a tough day mostly 1.5lbers with one going 4.36. The good one came off a swim jig on a grass flat next to a drop, others off a lipless and swim senco. Worked slopoing points, inside bends, and grass points at all different depths, nothing really going except dinks.

Tips: None really except get away from the boat traffic

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Got the evinrude fixed and took it out for some test runs at mossdale, and she ran great. As soon as I launched stripers started busting so I caught as many as I could without starting the motor, on top of course. Moved on and found some bass on shallow chunk rock with current mostly small. Worked that for awhile then saw some birds working on inside bends so moved over there working out a little deeper and started picking up fish in the 3lb class.

Tips: If there not hooking up well try down sizing with a similar bait

Tips: Most hit it on a pause as it fluttered in about 5 to 6 ft of water.
