    Water Temp: 56-62

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Went out to east delta area. Weather was great and the water warmed up from 56 to 62 in some areas over the course of the day. But only managed 2 fish. Caught the smallest and biggest fish of the year. A 5 inch bass off a 1/2 ounce white spinner bait, wow! And stuck a 7 lb off crank. Was slow day but that 7 lber made up for it.
    City: Stockton

Tips: Use bright colored cranks and spinners in stained water. Find new green grass and tules.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fished this past sunday evening near mildred. fishing was pretty tough durring most the day. had a couple two pounders on a white and blue spinner bait. right as the sun went down the wind died the fish began busting all around me. i started working a white spook with very long pauses, up to a minute with slight twitches. got seven fish within the next hour, with a five pounder kicker. thought they were stripers when i first saw them pushing bait and was happily surprised to see they were blacks. what started out to be a pretty tough day, turned into one of my best so far this year. fifty four degress... hitting on top.. lots of fun.

fished in and around big break yesterday. pretty tough bite. had only three fish all around two pounds. wasn't much wind... could only get bit on a six inch worm. think i'm heading back to mildred..

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Went out today battled some wind and light rain in south delta. Stuck a five pounder on rip rap where wind was blowing on red craw lipless crank. Threw swimbaits missed 2 good bites came unbuttoned. One follwer bit right before I pulled the bait out of water. Didn't see him follwing as wind was rippling the water. Tried jigs, worms, spinners with no takers. Several boats pre-fishing tourney I assume. The bite should get better as the weeks progress. Looks like Spring is finally here. Warmer weather next week! I can't wait!
    City: Stockton

Tips: Find wind blown points and banks next to deeper water and throw lipless cranks and swimbaits! Don't pass up banks where ducks/birds are feeding. If no bites move on to the next one.

    Report: Late report

Fished the Pro/Teen tournament at Russo's on Sunday. It was my first event of this kind and I had a blast fishing with 17 yr old Justin. Was his 3rd year here. Guess he's the vet & I'm the rookie. Anyway, launched out at 6 & hit the tulles at north end of Franks with topwater, buzzbait & poppers for an hr. without hits. Moving to the tulles going towards SJ channel .... still nothin. Then to Venice for some froggin. Did well there b4, but this time only 3 blowups but no hookups. Finally to some rip raps nearby and got several small LMB with senkos inside the weeds with a little current. Unfortunately not big enough to weigh-in. Motored down to Ward Island for more froggin, but again 3 or 4 blowups and couple of missed hooks. Down to the last couple of hours and had to change up. Put all our rods down and switched over to punching the mats. Knew a spot that always produced for me and showed Justin how to punch. He's a fast learner, within minutes he hooks up his first fish about a 2 lber. Unfortunately, he jerked it so hard outta the mat, that it flew over the boat and off the hook. Justin is a big kid (lineman for his high school football team) and took my instructions too literally. For the next hour, we caught maybe 5 or 6 more, mostly small guys again. But finally the last fish was a 3 lber. We didn't do well in the standings but he learned something new and was thrilled and that is all that matters!
    City: San Jose

Tips: Punch. Punch. Punch......especially after the sun hits the water.

Report: Don, left out some important stuff. I fish crankbaits just because I enjoy throwing them. But around this time going into March, guys are also flippin' and esp in March, they throw Senkos, flukes, and jig/pigs too...I just hate all the mess that comes up with the jigs. But I also do punchin', even when it's cold. Fish large weed beds located between current and slack current areas. I was flippin' tules a couple weeks ago and had two takers...one in the morning and one mid afternoon....only ones that day. But in March, I'd throw the cranks and spinnerbaits when your family gets up here. If they don't work, use everything mentioned and everything else in your tackle box!! Good Fishin..tight lines!!
    City: Sacramento

Tips: Try cranks and spinnerbaits for reaction...then senkos and flippin jig/pigs.

Report: Don, you're asking for friendly advice and that's what most would hope for. I didn't have much so didn't respond til I saw the response you got. Shouldn't be like what you just got. Here's what I know: It's been a bit slow during this cold/rainy weather and we're hopeful it will pick up real soon! Spotty for the average bassers and the good ones (guides, pro-ams, etc) seem to boat at least a couple/few and you'll have seen some just below your post. That's blacks and stripers. I generally like crankbaits, esp lipless, but I've seen some guys working divers. Spinnerbaits in white and crawdad red have worked, but not sure about this time of year. I'm just average and 50/50 at best. I'd think by end of Feb/early Mar, you'll be on to some pre-spawn bass. Also, though cold and sometimes wet, strictly striper guys are still out there using sardines/anchovies on a slider rig out in Frank Tract and their secret spots for stripers. When moving to another spot, troll divers like Yozuri or Rebel or 1 oz Cordell spots. If nothin else, you'll have fun shakin' with some scrappy shakers!
    City: Sacramento

Tips: You already know how credible it isn't....so take the red snapper advice in good fun.
