Report: Did not launch today due to low water and they wanted me to pay full price of $15 to use the dirt road and no dock. Are they crazy? Guys we all need to boycott this place until they realize there are other lakes to fish during low water conditions and they give us the deserved discount to launch. I know the bite is good but their business practices need to improve before I use them again.
    City: Wheatland

Tips: STAY AWAY FROM CFW UNTIL THEY DRAMATICALLY REDUCE THE LAUNCH FEES OR WE HAVE A RAMP ONCE MORE.

Report: Fished morning till about 11:00 am. The lake is way down so some help getting your boat in the water is helpful since there is no dock. The fishing is great. Fish are schooled up big time and are chasing bait. We threw crank baits all morning and the style and color did not seem to matter. Some fish prefered a slow retreive while other fish wanted something faster or more eratic. The fish are suspended in the upper 10' of water near shore and off shore following bait. We covered alot of water to find schools and then sat on them and cought big numbers with best fish going 2 1/2 lbs. A friend of mine fished that same day until about 4:00 pm and cought them all day with cranks. Good luck and be careful in the low water.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: A fine day at CFW. Spent yesterday fishing the mid-day shift from about 10:00am-4:30pm. Always nice to fish a little more challenging time than morning or evening.
Worked most of the oiunts on the main boady of the lake, focused specifically on the windblown rocky points with md banks nearby, so I could fish some dirty water. Fished a Red craw Bandit 300, all day. i had tied up some new jigs the night before and they didn't do me any good! Stayed a cast length out and tossed up to the bank. Most fish hit the bait in about 4-6 ft of water or maybe deeper after the bait moved off the bottom into open water near the boat. Put together a nice limit of ~1.5 lbrs, and had about 10 other fish, including a nice 2.5 lb channel catfish. Also had one fish on that "felt" bigger than the others, hooked it in the same area, it ran under the boat and shook loose, I never saw it, but I would guess 2.5+, but with the way CFW Spots fight, who knows.

And If anyone wants unauthenticated fish stories, a guy fishing from a kayak said he lost 2 bass, "Monsters!" at the boat, he said probably 5 lbs, seems a little far fetched, only those fish know the truth!
    City: Lincoln

Tips: Put away the sissy dropshot and the shakeyheads, pick up the cranks and chatterbaits for some fast moving reaction bites. The water is dirty (just the way I like it!)and the water temps are up, the sots are cruising the off-colored water for a quick bite. you don't have to fish deep.
Water level continues to drop and hopefully they will pull the dock further into the water!

Report: Took out my girlfrined, her friend, and boyfrined on Sat. Got a late start about 8 AM. Caught a rat on the first cast of the day. Had everyone dropshoting all day and stuck 11 or so. I did catch one reaction fish on a chater bait. Would have caught alot more had I been able to concentrate on fishing, but had fun trying to teach others.

Report: Fished after work from 6-10. Lots of shakers but managed two decent fish in the trees and once the sun set caught another five on top water along the dam. No monsters but the top water was sure nice. The water continues to drop almost daily. Happy Fishing! .......

Report: Fished CFW for the first time in about three months. Took the kids and didn't get out until about 6:30 PM. Lots of boat traffic on the water, but that is to be expected. Fished up near the river looking for some clear water. Managed a few smaller fish on a luckycraft. A few more on plastics, I do agree with the earlier post: It seems like the fish fought better than thier size. After sunset the topwater picked up and we had lots of fish striking, with a hookup about every third strike. Best fish was on topwater @ 3.14 Not a bad three hours fishing. :-)

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Hot! Hot!. Get on the water early. The North Gate is open at 5:30am, just use the envelope to pay.
We started out in the main body again with to water, crank baits. Then went to jigging with brown purple, green pumpkin.
The water has dropped 2-3 ft but the bass were still there. Most of the morning fish came in 5-10 ft, when the sun came out we move off the bank into 20-35 ft.
Watch for the bass to pick up your bait and run right to you.

Tips: Fish early and get out of the Hot sun.

Report: Joe Miller and I got in the water at 5:30am (the gate opened up early for people to get out). Cranked down a rocky bank on the main body, on fish on a buzz bait. Started using Capt Jack's Jigs in Brown/Purple and Green Pumkin with Green Purple flake. After staying in the main body until 11:30am using 10 jigs we got 40 + spots and largies to the boat. Our best was 15 lbs +.
some of those largies felt like a five plus, but only 3.0 lbs +. Good day on the water with my new Jigs.
If you would like some just email me.
    City: Rocklin

Tips: Fish the rocky banks, rocky banks in 5-20 ft and slow.

Report: Well a weird weekend. Saturday was good. Started off up in Bear River Arm, pretty much immediately, got a huge bite on the Shakeyhead, unfortunately I was spaced out at the time and totally missed the fish, hell of a bite though! Shakey head took a small keeper largemouth, a 3 lb largemouth and a nice ~1.5 lb spot. Both LMB's were in 5 ft o' water next to a bush, first one in Bear River Arm, big one in Rock Creek Arm. Spot was up in Bear River Arm in about 15-18' of water in the middle of the cove. Also cranked up a channel cat, weird (part 1). Sunday, Nothing...Water dropped about 5-6" overnight,(artifical super low pressure system) turned the fish off, or I just suck, but hopefully not! Weird!! (part 2)
Get back to the boat ramp to find that some jerk off stole one of my new buddy bearings off my trailer, unfortunately I don't know who it was and therefore I don't know who's ass to kick. Wierd (part 3).
Gonna try the afternoon/evening fish to see if I can get any more activity, still nice, and for those who want a challenge every once in a while when they go fishing, CFW is still worth the time.
    City: Lincoln

Tips: Shakeyhead seemed to be the ticket, to put it simply, powerfishing slowly! Still can't bring my self to real finesse fishing...Maybe night fishing?

    Water Temp: 81-84

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Well it's nice to be back to the old stompin grounds of my younger days. A nice day on the lake. Air temps in low to mid 90's and water temps about 10 deg less. Got out to the lake around 10:00, fished till about 2:30 (got a nice tan!!!) The big surprise was the crankbait, catchin fish. Nothing better than some small keepers, but a nice alternative to silly little finesse baits. Started up in shallow of the "tree cove" up Bear River Arm, a quick fish (LMB) cranked off a tree (Bandit 200 series)in about 5 ft of water. Went up Bear Arm further, had a nice pop on a drop shot Berkley Minnow, but it just wouldn't commit, maybe a nice spotted bass?! Shot to Rock Creek Arm(?) east of North Shore Boat Launch, tied into a few white crappies (Bandit 200 series cranks) my pops hit a small keeper largemouth in the same general area. i tied into another small keeper but he flipped me. Took the cranks to the long finger (sometimes island) in the South middle part of the lake cranked some more with some swipes but no one would really commit (probably some more fiesty Spots). A few rude wakeboard boats flying up and down Bear River Arm but all in all I nice day out at CFW.
    City: Lincoln

Tips: Tired of shakey heads, darter heads and finesse worms?! Toss the cranks in 5-10 ft of water. Bandit 200's run about 6-8 ft, so maybe a little deeper might do the trick for some bigger fish. Drop shot the complex rocky areas, near deepwater (had a nice hit and some other hits later up Bear River Arm, it was a little cooler up there). Most importantly, don't rule out the shallows during the summer, you may not have the big fish up there, but there are keepers in the brush/trees.

    Water Temp: 70

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Most of the water is clear and back of the coves are stained. Went out Wedesday,Saturday and Sunday with three different anglers. First thing in the morning the bass were up on the banks within 2-7 ft. I was using a small single tail crub on a dart head 1/8 oz. Let the crub sit and the bass will just pick it up. A worm on a dart head works also. As the sun hits the water move back with a drop shot using a worm in brown/purple. Most of the water with deep water near is good. After 9am I went to a Capt Jack's Jig in Green pumkin with Green/Purple flake with a Brown/Purple double tail grub or a # 180. Most of the bigger fish cam on a Jig. After 11 am the bit died off so by noon we went home.
    City: Rocklin

Tips: Let the grubs sit and pop it slow.

California BASS Federation Nation State Team is looking for some good Anglers for next years State Team.

There will be a qualifing tournament in Aug. 3-4 at Clear Lake to get the top 12 for next years team. For more Info send me a email.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: On the water at 8:00 am, went to some coves w/ trees on the south and nothing, the only thing swiming shallow were carps (hughe!) really hot weather and clear water, great combo. went up the south arm and found some fish holding on the break of a creek chanel, caught 2 on a 4 1/2" roboworm dropshoted. moved to a point really close to deeper water and 1 more on a dart (robo curlytail 4 1/2" aaron's magic) along a bunch of small ones.of the point to an island top with some trees and weeds (about 10-15' underwater) cought a 3# on a white tube dragged on the bottom.
went back to the coves on the south end, wind had picked up. Caught 2 more keepers on a dartheaded curly tail, they were pushing a school of bluegills against the wind blown bank.
    City: Folsom

Tips: Fish slow 10 - 20', structure (breaks, logs, trees, deep weeds, rockie points, etc. roboworms, small tubes, small baits. Color was a key factor for me.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: There are a lot of stripers in there. The only consistant way I have found to catch them is to troll a rattle trap right in your prop wash next to the tullies. It seems to trigger them into the bite. The more power you can apply at about 2.5 MPH the better. If you have a trolling plate on a kicker use it, and crank it to the breaking point.

Yes there are Stipers at CFW. One of my bass club members caught a 15 pound striper about 2 years ago jigging a Kastmaster, so I know they are in there.
