Report: Fished Casitas this past weekend. Water temp was nice but the wind didn't help at all. Algae is blooming and needs some time for the lake to turn.
Found fish in variety of areas on the lake, most fish came in the 10-15 foot range for me. Drop Shotted and texas rigged oxblood worms for 8 fish, biggest went 3-12 with a bunch of dinks as well.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Beautiful morning, Knew that the wind was gonna blow so got out on the water by 6am. Fished rocks and stick-ups around the west side of the main island and did well with the Drop Shot and Carolina Rig. Spent most of my morning there and got six in the 3-4 lb size. I dont know what it is but they seemed to fight harder than normal. Headed to the rock pile area near the dam and got two more with a weightless texas rigged 6" "anytime anywhere" worm from Preffered Plastics Company on 6# test worked real fast. One about the same size as the others I was catching and one about 5 lbs. These fish blasted out of the water and nailed it like a topwater bait. Really Fun!!! Nothing real big for the day but fun none the less. Got off the water by 11 am.
City: CamarilloTips: Fished Drop Shot in the stick-up cover and rocks with about 12-15" of tag in 5'-25' of water. Carolina Rig with a long 2' leader in the flatter areas in the back of the coves. Weightless rig near the brushlines in about 5' of water. Caught them in all depths and had uncoutable followers on the weightless rig. Fish would follow and nip at it for long distances (10 yards or so).

Water Temp: 62-64
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Really had to work hard. Not as fast as the last few weeks, but none the less, as fun as always. Fished my normal dropshot/ carolina/ texas rigs and all produced, but nothing over three lbs's. The lake has a huge algae bloom in effect. Got five in the boat between 7am to 11am. Dropshot 4" and Texas Rigged 6" worms in and around rocky and reed/ stick-up areas. Carolina rigged 6" around sunken island. Threw the swimbait for a while first thing and had many followers but two at over ten a piece followed right to the boat and skirted away fast after seeing me. Really exciting.
City: CamarilloTips: I fished from 5 to 20 feet and got them anywhere in between. Biggest one in about 10-15 feet. Algae really threw me for a loop and not sure if it was that or the recent heavy pressure and crowds slowing things up a bit. Maybe it was the full moon in combo with April fools day. Good Luck!!!!

Water Temp: 57-63
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Gold Coast Tourney today -- 16 boats out for what looks to be a great day of fishing. Reports have that fish may have stopped moving up as possibly, the weeks weather pattern disrupted some movements. -
Partner and I hit our 1st spot where we landed that nice 9-8 a few weeks before. Lots of traffic but we managed to hold our location. Slow spot today and were not seeing activity we liked. Sun has produced a cover of algae stopping the sun from going deeper which has probably shut off the bed fish. Captured one keeper sand headed out. Hit spot two and I landed a equal keeper making two in the box. Fished several other spots and partner and I both hit on number two making a 4 in the box but nothing for that elusive 5th keeper. Finally pulled in a full box then went looking for cull fish. With only 4 minutes left for the day, I yanked out a 4.21 to cull the light weight and we headed in. 12-02 on 5 wasn't much to brag about. Winners in with 16.33 on 5 and big fish went 6.55. We ended up 5th but still, a hard day for Casitas.
City: Santa MariaTips: `Go slow! Most all the fish we had were on Senkos weightless. Some other tourney guys were hitting big weights on live craws. Saw several blade lures hung on underwater stickups so use caution around close bank areas as with the water down, there are a lot more exposed brances to capture your bait!

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished all day leaving at around 230 pm. Caught only 2 fish all day, saw lots of boats on the lake (trny) but no one catching fish from what I saw. Loads of fish on or near beds, Caught both fish on a crank bait. Soft baits real slow did'nt do much good either, drop shot..nill. Senkos, jigs...nill Motored to the ramp after the day and get rear ended by another boat, bending my nav lite, no damage to me or the boat thankfully. but that's another story.

Water Temp: 62-64 deg
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Had a great day despite the thick crowd. Bass are definately in early spawn mode with plenty of small males (1-2 lbs) peppering the shallows. Caught and immidiately released 11 nice sized bass from 3-6 lbs, lost numerous the same size, and a couple of small males all by lunch. Lots of action. Made it a point to fish a little deeper to try and not disturb the bedding bass. Found the better ones in 10+ feet. Used a drop shot 4 1/2" Preferred Plastic "Anytime Anywhere" worm and texas rigged 6" "Copper and Coal". A real fun day but really foggy and cold. Sun never broke out of the damp overcast.
City: CamarilloTips: I really have mixed feelings with guys fishing bedding bass. I am not sure how I feel about it but please release your fish immidiately after catching them. If you must keep bass, please only keep enough for one meal. This is a real vuneranble time for the Bass and they really get taken advantage of. Thanks, just my humble opinion.

Water Temp: 63.5-67
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Crowded House! Got there extra early and launched in pea soup fog. Drove straight to first spot and fished for an hour without so much as a tap. Back in at 7:30 and picked up another buddy. So three in the boat we drive straight to the next spot in pea soup while I get everybodys gear stored and straight. Come out of fog dead on second spot. Another boat has anchored exactly over the spot so we started to the side and moved along. Shaky head, Huddlebug, and I threw top secret stuff for the morning. The huddlebug drew a lot of strikes but hook-up ratio was less than perfect ( no fish landed this day out of 7 bites). He missed three fish and claimed the hook wasn't big enough. Well a number 4 drop-shot hook should be perfect. He switchs hooks and procedes to loose every fish that ate the bait. I then notice he is using a rebarb worm hook. After I was done yell'n about the stupid hook choice ...he retied but then he didn't get another bite. Buddy " Dave 19X " shows up and we took pictures of his first two casts in the morning. 7 pounder and one over five. There was no way to throw a swimbait with the three of us in the boat. I threw it when there were two of us but it's scarry with three unless everyone is doing it. I had some follows but no takers. Bumped around the lake and didn't do very well at all. I moved back to second spot and we caught a few and moved in towards some tullies in the Wadeligh arm. We had a triple hook up and I caught some more on senkos etc. very tight to cover. Drove the boat over a multitude of beds and fish in the act of spwaning. Put number three buddy on the dock at 1:00 and back at it. The bite got way better in the afternoon for us (wind?). We didn't do well except on one arm of the lake. Everytime we'd go to the Station Canyon side we'd go hitless...Back to wadeligh and fish on. I finally broke down and tied on a drop-shot. I don't know the true numbers. Partner got 8-9 including his first Casitas limit and new personal best for the day. I probably got 20 or there abouts. Better fish were deeper all males shallow. The boats thinned by at least half by one o'clock and there were only a handful in the parking lot at the end of the day.
City: Santa BarbaraTips: Drop-shot Roboworm oxblood light red flake fat 6 inch straight tail with a #4 hook and 1/8 oz. drop-shot sinker with only 5-6 inches from hook to weight. Transition spots from one type of gravel to rock were best. When fishing tullies fish extremely tight and work away to deeper water. When fishing brush...go weedless presentation if your in tight otherwise fish the dropshot about 10 feet from the bank and work your way deeper. Good luck on your new P.B. and see you on the water!

Water Temp: 57-62
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: What a day at Casitas! Partner and I went out ofr a practice day and on arrival, was greeted by several boaters doing a tourney today along with my good greats and great fishermen, Mark and Bob Tull.
Beings only my second visit to Casitas, I was hopuing for a great day as the temps were up and it appeared that fish wee heading to bed with the warmer temps. Headed out to our first stop but it was pretty filled with head-streachers looking for beds. We elected to hit another ppoint and started tossing weightless rigs, Partner hit a fair keeper and we kept hugging the shore line working it very slow. BANG! Partner hooked into a beast and he worked it to the boat finally in range of the net and I loaded her in. A very nice 9-8 24 incher! We moved off to another section of the lake and started wirking different baits and looking for possible points to hit during the upcoming tourney. A few more decent keepers arrived in the boat then BANG! Partner hooks another 'pig' and this time she headed to deep water. After a sort battle, another toad in the boat! 10.0 and 25 1/2 incher. A horse! Partner had a slight case of 'palsey' trying to re-hook bait and needed a short rest period for his heart to catch up! Nice day- Weather was out and it was in the 80's. This should bring the fish up within a week if this patteren holds.
Talked to my friends and a heafty 29 pounds took the tourney today -- They didn't fair as well nor did I. I had a harse day but partner scored huge with probably close to 32 pounds for the day on 5.
City: Santa MariaTips: Wont say where we caught them nor what we used but it wasn't bed fishing! There are there -- fish it slow!

Water Temp: 56-60
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: It was a nice day on the lake except for the fact that my partner and I skunked. Haven't hit a lake in about six months so I was a little rusty (a Lot). Here were the conditions: water temp started out around 56 and warmed up to 60. Water vis is around 10-12ft al over the lake. Very few fish were up shallow and were very skittish. Would not even look at a bait. We fished main lake points, secondary points, backs of coves. Not even a nibble. Saw a bunch of boats fishing the outside edge of the sunken island (north side). Only about 25-30 boats on the lake all day. Finally gave up around 3:30. Think I'll sell the boat and tackle and take up stamp collecting.
City: La MiradaTips: Fish are in a definite pre-spawn mode. Maybe another week of warm weather will bring em up. If you have advice, let me have it.
