Report: Pre fished the JT night tournament and found the better fish to be way deeper than I expected. 35-50 feet!!! I caught some fish on silver buddy type baits but not worth my effort as they were just school sized fish. My partner caught some better fish in the deep water but that bite seemed to fizzle in the rain. More often than not it's been my experience that with the dark skies and rain the fish will pull up shallow but this was not the case for us this day. Shallow very early and late but otherwise going deep is the way to catch fish. Cranks early shallow should get you some really nice fish but because of all of the bait it is tough right now. I look forward to my first winter fishing at Casitas but the fall bite is not what I expected so I'd better rethink what I know and see if I cannot find the " biting " fish here.

Tips: main lake points fished slow with a dropshot...Robo red crawler or a brown jig as long as you fish DEEEEP!

Report: Started at 6 a.m fished a double bladed buzzbait, no trailer, near marina.Fished the edges of reeds and stickups. 6:10 2 pounder smashed the bait, hooked almost near the gills. Moved after 20 minutes towards stickups close to shore near Wadleigh Arm another two 2 pounders nailed the buzzbait. Finally, one more hit and he headed for the reeds and got stuck. I lost the buzzbait.I tried Zara spook and spinnerbait, but they seemed to like the buzzbait best.Met a guy at marina who caught 12 BIG crappie. I mean BIG.

Tips: Fish early near the reeds and stickups or between them.

Report: Fished the night ABA meet with buddy -- A few problems at the start with batteries but we made it to our first stop 20 minutes after blast-off.. Started with dropshot and a few cranks with only short fish and no weighers. Headed to a 2nd stop and hit it with buzz and cranks with one keeper on the crank. was surprosed that the second 'sweet' spot didn't hold up to it's previous takers so we moved again and more or less waited for dark to come. Hit spot three which turned out to be a decent stop and we started pulling in weight - not huge by Casitas standards but they weighed. Culled maybe 5 fish looking for a heavy before the time frame hit but only managed 12 maybe 13-1/2 pounds on 5. Winners in with 23.23 and a big fish weighed in at 8 plus. Not the huge bags as a week or so before but it was a decent night.

Report: Fished the day after Kelly. Tks for the usual great report! I was fishing with wifey and tossing Senko. Went sightseeing and found a couple of fish on the points alongside the reeds as Kelly said. Believe the long casts helped and let Senko drop a bit before moving. Alternating with drop shot but Senko caught 4, drop shot 0.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: I am out at first lightI am throwing an all white dble buzz 1/2 oz with a white zoom split tail worm and a 3/0 trailer hook. I find the fish in small isolated pockets with tullies in the back and near the points just prior to these pockets. The fish on the points are off the bank a bit on brush that is 5-10 feet from the bank otherwise they are in the backs of the coves where it's nice and quiet and dark. I run the bait very slowly almost submerged and they tend to sneek up on it or just plain whack it. An albino shad or white soft jerkbait got a few today but my better fish have been on the buzzbait. I try to fish areas of shade all morning long as this concentrates the fish towards these pockets but is by no means the only water I visit in my morning as someplaces still produce fish because of their proximity to bait....Buzzbait fish are crawfish fish and by that I mean.... put some fish in a livewell sometime and you will have shells everywhere. Once the sun is blazing or around 10 when I can't buy anymore topwater. I fish a shakey head or dropshot a worm. Oxblood light red flake and the like were working great last week for good quality fish on deeper areas like what I described for my early morning thing but I go to that after I can no longer find any more shade. With the buzzbait Rocky banks are better than sandy and while fishing shear stuff you must put the bait right on the bank in order to get bit. With wind Prefered) or not on the mainlake points after 12 I"m using my big baits....That is how I've been whacking my best fish and farmed a few PB's in the last week or so on the bigger baits. I hope all goes well for you and this can help some who are struggling or are in need of some information in some small way. ...Be safe on the water and look out for the morons on the road...
    City: Ojai

Tips: ,You'll see the fish are either up or not in the areas your at...And weather (overcast or scattered light) REALLY helps your topwater..I move along quickly but fish slowly. As the fish tell you about your particular day on the water move along with confedence and try to remember where/why the last fish was but keep on the move....You will hit two in two casts and then go two cuts without being touched. You must keep moving but with a purpose ...AND...You must take shots where you can...If there is a perfect crank piece than go to that... Big swimbait water ahead okay!!! But move forward and keep quiet. These fish hardly ever get pressure...Not!

Report: Early launch to investegate my new home waters. I fished topwater all day long ( until 2 ). I had a few fish slap my buzzbait so I changed from all white to more of a shad color and caught 4 fish to 4 pounds. As I cruised the lake I'm always amazed to see nothing where I think fish should be and then find a little pocket less than 20 yards long with 10 fish over 5 pounds staring back at me. The big zara spook immitation I'm throwing started catching fish around 11:30 when the mudlines started to form. The fish came from deep and shallow and wanted a slow retrieve with as much walk the dog side to side action you can give it without moving it forward. If had not been so hot I would have hung around longer as the topwater seemed to be getting better but it was over 90 and and still climbing so I split.
    City: Ojai

Tips: If you are looking to catch fish a drop shot on the submerged island just might the ticket. If the shad pop up in the back of a cove a shad colored crank needs to be at the ready.

Report: Just got back from some unbelievable Bass fishing in Texas and was excited to fish my home lake after not seeing it for over a month or so. Got out about 6:30 and had three in the boat about within the first hour then it slowed way down. Fish were all about 3-4 lbs. All caught on custom poured worms from Kevin @ Preferred Plastics. Made a move toward the dam area at about 9 am and got three more same bait, and the same fish I believe. Tried one more spot at about 11:30 am near north/east side of the main island and got two more about 1 1/2 lb. Lake was crowded but I still had a blast. Boat was on the trailer and headed home by 1:30pm.
    City: Camarillo

Tips: I parked the boat in about 30' and made diagonal cast toward shore in order to keep the bait in the strike zone areas a little longer. Funny thing is that I caught them in all depths from 2-30 feet. Believe it or not, the smallest ones came from the deeper water. Fished drop shot and carolina. Best was the drop shot. Was fishing it a little faster than normal. I did see a school of bass that must of had at least 30 in it. All about 2 lbs and moving fast in about 5' of water. I never saw a school that big at Casitas. Wish they were hungry 10 lb'rs.

Report: I prefished and then fished the J&T night tournament Saturday. I got to the lake and ran the boat around a few laps ( non-use ). Since all was well my partner and I stretched our lines out behind the boat and tied up our stuff. I went around fishing mainlake stuff with topwaters and had him throw a worm. He had two fish to 3 pounds on oxblood light red flake while I was hauling along fishing my reaction bait. I had a number of follows and finally stuck a 4 1/2 . I kept it up for another hour and CRASH...I got one over 8 pounds. Pictures and high fives we went in to sign up for the tournament. We were the tenth boat out and got to our spot,....No love on the topwater and I was moving the boat to fast for my partner to fish a worm effectively. I put down the big topwater and told him we were going to go fish worms and away we went. John struck the first fish about 5 pounds and then it really got slow. I changed his worm color and Wham he gets a 6+...Hmmm. We hung around a little longer. Wham John gets a 7.36...Hmmm as we drift along I toss out a big ol power worm to deep water and start retying one of the dropshot rigs that was all messed up when I see my line take off. I get up and set the hook and the fish goes right under and around the trolling motor. Not good! I get out of that and the fight is on. I got her to the boat three times but my partner could not see her with the glare of our lights etc. Well the third time she screams off....She found a tree and I had to brake her off....Darn but that's fishing. We continue down the bank 150 yards or so and I tell John lets go back and try the hole one more time! John sticks another 5+ pounder and things get slow...I get a 14 incher and we move the boat...Now things are really slow. We travel along nice and slow and found pockets of fish and then nothing. I got another real nice fish and she comes unbuttoned half way to the boat. Bad day for me but we ended up weighing in 22.17 for 11th place. 34 pounds won it. We'd have been in the top three if I'd landed my fish as I saw her and had her in the 9 pound catagory. But that's fish'n.
    City: Ojai

Tips: Oxblood worms when light and switch to black around 7:30. Topwater seemed best at high noon but only lasts a few hours. There is a crank bite but I didn't try any.
