Report: Had an interesting day. When I caught all of my fish rippin' there was a solid cloud cover. I really think that helped me. I fished today and couldn't dredge up a ripbait fish! I caught some decent fish but it really seems like the warm sunlight is pushing the fish under or real close to cover. I caught some drop shot fish and some brushhog fish. The swimbait thing has gone down the toilet totally. Don't know what's up w/ that? Oh well, it is supposed to be cloudy and possibly rain tomorrow. Maybe I'll catch em' rippin tomorrow. Just got to fish!!
    City: Upper Lake

Tips: Look for any opportunity you have to fish when it's colder and cloudy. You'll have a better crack at some good reaction fish. Rip that pointer real slow and soak it for about 10-12 sec. Your bited will almost always come on the pause. Good Luck!!

Report: launched my paton boat at lakeport the boat ramp is a little slippery so (be careful) slipped while trying to get in my boat good advise sand paper your flippers. well anyway i oared across to rodman slough and while oaring i said what the hell so i trolled with a white and yellow and rainbow chuckker bait and got one carp nice size so i cut him up and put him in my basket for night cat fishing.

got to rodman slough and had to bend my rods down so they would not hit the bridge. i got 8 bass using a rattle bait with a spredder and a crank bait on the other side i got 2 at once. great day best 5 went 12.5 pounds.
    City: santa rosa

Tips: you dont really need a bass boat. cut up carp works great to attrack female bass males seem to be afraid of it. troll in the middle for the big ones.

get a halibut spredder but i dont think i can use it in the flw this weekend. but i might sneek it. good luck.

Report: I fished yesterday and had a damn good day rippin'. I caught and released 10+ fish, the biggest, a near 7 pounder!! I was fishing out of my 8'kick boat when disaster struck me. A huge 35 ft. day day cruiser was doing about 60 inside the bouees and threw up a 4' wake. A series of unfortunate events led to me flipping losing a rod, an oar, and two boxes of terminal tackle. My waders filled up and luckily I didn't lose my life!! So really catching the fish lost it's worth because of the accident. I was just glad to still be kickin'!!
    City: Upper Lake

Tips: try some rippin for big ones bebe!!

Report: Man what a day...launched at 9:30AM and started fishing shortly thereafter. Best day of the year so far for me. I caught and released 16 fish with my best 5 coming in at 18.7 lbs. Caught several nice 3-4lbers and a beautiful 6-10 toad. All fish were taken on a shakey head worm just north of the county park. I lost numerous fish as well and noted that many of my bites were VERY aggressive, they were savaging the shakey head worm I was using BIG TIME.
    City: Petaluma, CA

Tips: Hit the tules with a shakey head worm.

Report: I made a quick trip to Clear Lake for a few hours Sun night. Didn't stay long - the weather was much nicer but the bite wasn't! I heard from two sources that the bite on Sunday was excellent after a slow Saturday. A good day bite can slow the night bite and it did. I must be in a mini-slump 'cause I lost another big bass - took me into some rocks and finally had to break the line. Wow! The bass just wern't hitting like Thurs evening - a few had taken the bait with no indication of pressure. I did manage one or two 3's and a great bite from a 5 1/4 pounder - luckily just before I left - helped keep me awake!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Not much to say - night fishing this time of year really is feast or famine. Maybe if we can start putting these big ones in the boat that we are losing, the reports will be more exciting - at least will carry more weight, har!!!

Report: Met up with my brother to fish Grandpas lake, started out of clearlake oaks and headed North to try and get to some of those nice spots north and when we got to the narrows the Fog was so thick we could hardly see, got to about Soda Springs (I think) and could not see at all so we headed to the shore and fished a while waiting for the fog to clear and it never really did. we fished around that area till about 10:30 and it was still fogged in everywhere but the south where we came from. Fished a rickpile for a while but wind was blowing, tried the barge on the east side and down the tulies fron there and by noon wind was really kickin up for our 16 footer. Tried Redbud area and Indian island with less wind then ventured back to the oaks to see if we could get out of the wind around rattlesnake. Took it slow and still got very wet so we tried the Keys. Dead or dying shad all over and tons of birds having a field day. Dropped my brother off and finished out on the calm side of Rattlesnake where it atleast seemed like there would be fish. Ended up with no fish but learned more... south water was very stained and all the shad were not a good sign. We tried Jig, Brushog, dropshot, spinner baits, jerk baits, crank baits, Senkos and even thres a couple topwater baits in the calm spots with sun and shade. I even got more comfortable throwing the swim bait, THANKS so much Nick for your insight on the bottom walker. I know it will work when the conditions are right.
    City: Pacifica

Tips: As it always goes driving home Sunday the water was calm as could be, no wind, no fog, the whole North end looked great.... but the boat was on the trailer heading home, there is always next time.

Report: Just so everyone is clear on the swimbait I was using, It was the 5" Live eye bottom walker. Color doesn't seem to matter as long as it looks somewhat like a hitch or a big shad. I have gotten a lot of e-mails regarding this so now you know. Good Luck!!
    City: Upper Lake

Tips: slow roll that sucker off the bottom and hang on!!

    Water Temp: 47

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Did a late afternoon-night trip Thurs at Clear Lake with again, post front conditions - icy cold wind and clear skies. We actually caught some - eight to be exact. We used jigs before dark and brush hogs after dark. I tried a jig but they wouldn't take it. Unfortunately, we lost two big bass but did manage a near 16 1/2 lb limit with 4 1/4 the biggest. Very difficult to fish in the high wind. Some of the bites were aggressive, which surprised me after the lake temp had dropped another 3 or 4 degrees.
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Hard to find a real pattern except the jig bites was good before dark. The black/red brush hog attracted some good bites after dark. Lots of smelly jelly! We didn't rip or crank. We fished about 7 hours, mostly on the west side of the Clear Lake arm, trying to stay out of the freezing wind.

Report: Fished yesterday and was surprised at my results. I talked to a friend of mine that fished a small ABA and caught several 9+ on 5" River2sea swimbaits in practice. I figured, hell must be luck, then I tried it. I didn't catch a 9 but caught several fish in the 31/2 to 5/12 lb range (23lbs. for 5 or so (NOT BAD) It is really wierd because here it has snowed for like two days and the air temp. has been like 34-44 deg. These fish sure as hell can't read a calender, even though it is now March and SWIMBAIT season. I just couldn't figure it out. I couldn't catch fish on rips, LV's, blades, anything!! But there is something about slow rolling that river2sea off the bottom that draws em' in. If anybody can think of why these fish would be so rejective towards other reaction baits and NOT swimbaits, please post something. I cannot figure out this enomoly. The water and weather conditions are sure as hell not prime swimbait conditions. I see all of you guys post these reports saying that you're catching them on LV's, blades, and rips, and for some reason i cover a lot of water with these baits and don't catch S#%T!! I fun fished a little a couple weeks ago after we had that warm storm and did decent, but it was all dropshot/darthead fish NO REACTION BITES!!! Maybe somebody can clue me in on what I am doing wrong
    Much Appreciated!
    City: Upper Lake

Tips: Try the swimbait thing and see what you think!! Slow roll it maintaining bottom contact and don't let that sunuvagun pull the rod out of your hands!! HAVE FUN!!

Report: Fished with my partner Kamron on 2/22, ripped, rattled, cranked, drop shotted, last year in one day in February we got 120 fish to 4 lbs, this days almost exactly 1 year later 3 fish to 13 inches and 4 nice crappie. Fished 2/23,2/24 & 2/25 with my brother Benny, we got 12 fish to 13 inches on 2/23 on drop shot until 4:30 I went to a favorite set of deap docks in the south end and it finally happened, after cranken every rock in a 200 yard stretch of rocks and docks my Team Diawa crank bait rod loaded up with what I thought was a 4 lb fish, I told by brother you owe me dinner, because we had a deal going that who ever gets the biggest fish the other guy has to buy dinner, after a I got it about have way to the boat I said I think its only about 3 lbs but you still owe me dinner, he said no dinner until I see it, after she was close to the boat but still unseen she took off for the bottom of the lake and ripped line like a 5-7 lb fish, I said its 5-7 dude, she ran about 4 times and finally she came up and I knew immediately it was over 10 lbs, my scale said 12 to 12.5 after screaming for a few minutes my brother said calm dowm before you have a heart attach, you have to understand I have been trying to get a double for over 11 years. Put her in the live well and took off for Red Bud Dock(No Camera)Bob at Lakeshore Bait and tackle came down to the dock and took digital photo's and weighed it on a digital scale, his scale said 11.2 lbs. Sunday it rained off and on and was windy so we tried minnows and got 5 fish to 3.5 lbs, we were fishing by 2 guys who got 25 fish and 3 of them were 5 lbs, they were fishing rocky flats with a drop off near by. Sunday was a huricane and we had to stay in marina's and did not get bit in 2 hrs and called it quites, Rattlesnake area had a shad die off and there were thousands of shad dieing and thousands of birds eating them and 4-5 foot white caps.
    City: San Jose

Tips: Robo's for dinks, minnows for 2-5 lbers and crank until your arm falls off for double digits!!!
Go to Lakeshore Bait and tackle on Lakeshore drive in Clear Lake, Bob is the greatest guy, he came down to the dock to weigh and photo my fish, how many shop owners do you know that would do that, also the crank bait I caught the 11.2 lb fish on I bought from his store:)not that that matters. See fish in photo area under David Rogers

Report: Hit the lake hoping to take advantage of a recent hot bite. As it usually goes when chasing reports, the bite slowed from what was being reported. That did not stop us from picking up a handful of fish on jerks and cranks, but it was a long day of searching. Our biggest two went 5 and 6 pounds. All fish were caught in dock areas where the ends of the docks were sitting in about 12 feet of water. Cast toward the shore and work your bait along the dock pilings and hang on!

Tips: Thanks to all those who sent me tips and suggestions on my inquiry post in the forum. You guys are great. Don't be afraid to ask questions in the forum. Plenty of helpful folks willing to point you in the right direction!
