Report: Needed some cigar fishing time, so went to South Lake Pier at John Muir Drive and impoundment for a couple of hours today. Took just one rod (spinning), instead of my usual two, a Plano plastic box of Senkos and appropriate terminal tackle. It snowed or sleeted in San Francisco last night and evidence of it was on rooftops of the houses around the Lake, with quite a few white lawns visible from Junipero Serra Drive. Fished the Senko along tules and S-l-o-w-l-y vertical jigged the pier and adjacent structure. The air temp was pretty cold, but I was sufficiently bundled up and it was sunny and bright. The water levels continue to rise and the impoundment is crystal clear. Didn't catch any today, but there is always tomorrow afternoon (if it doesn't rain or snow).
I did smoke a couple of very good cigars and had a pleasant outing to boot.

Report: Hey Buck - there are lots of types of fish at this lake or any other that will come to the top to eat...trout, bass and carp are what one would expect to see at dusk. I have caught bass at dusk. Fish spots where there are lots of gnats flying around. If the fish are jumping, throw a top water bait. (3/16 oz hula popper or small Rebel popper). Let it sit until the rings go away. Then let it sit a minute more. Then pop it once. Then wait a minute or so then pop it a couple of times. If there are no strikes reel it in and start again.

If you have a small #5 Rapala floating minnow - throw it out and let it sit until the rings disappear. Then just using the rod tip, twitch it, crank it slowly a couple of times and twitch it again then wait a second or two and twitch/ crank. Fish it just a few inches below the surface, twitching as you crank the bait back. if you don't get a strike, cast again and crank it a couple of times to get the bait down a little deeper, then twitch it (rod tip only)stop and crank , twitch it back. These have always worked for me at dusk for fish that are rising to the top.

Needless to say - these are light (6lb. line, spinning rod)tackle baits...good luck

Report: Fished from 10:00am to 12:30pm Worked a 4 inch Senko (black w/ blue flake). Fished the John Muir Pier dock and impoundment. Got a hit...that was it. Once again, I was yacking with a basser named Sal, not paying attention...Weather has to stabilize and the Lake needs to warm a little. The water is really high and should be a good spring for bass fishing here.

Report: Decided to go out in the rain. Out there for about 45 minutes at yesterday's spot - before the rain started down. Fished a purple/red flake Kinami creature bait on a 3/8 oz football jig head. Poked around the tules with the YUM Wooly Hawg from yesterday's bass bite. Rain made me go home...no fish, but still got out there and gave it a go.

Report: Fished South Lake and Impoundment from 11:00am to 2:30pm. Caught 2 LMB from John Muir Drive Pier on South Lake. Got both with 4 inch pumpkin green YUM Wooly Hawg on 1/4 oz round jighead and my spinning outfit. Just flippin' the tules at the corners of the pier... Caught both fish within 5 minutes of each other. The first was 2-3 lbs. The second 1 lb.

I also met a fellow basser named Leo - who was fishing a very light tackle drop shot rig. We fished at the pier for a while. He is a pretty good dude.

Report: Warmed up today, so - I decided to try my luck at the North Lake. Fished from the tules on the West end, along the bank past the first small square pier to the large fishing pier across from the boat house. I had to work over and around the trout fishermen. I Texas rigged a 6 inch Mann's augertail purple jellyworm on my spinning rod and a white spinnerbait on the baitcaster for about an hour and a half. It was a beautiful afternoon. I slow rolled that spinner bait...I cast the plastic worm and slowly dragged/hopped it back to the bank from deeper water through the flat shallows to the bank. Not a fish or bite or hit on the lures today. I wanted to get back to the tules with a Senko, but time ran out for me today. I'm going back in the am. Perhaps the South Lake/impoundment tomorrow?

Report: Hit the Lake at 10:30am - home by 12:30pm. It did warm up a little bit today. The air temp in the high 40's. Tossed a 3"cinnamon brown Senko around the bushes and tules of the impoundment from the bank. Also drop shot rigged a 4" blue Power Worm with a pink curley tail along the pier and adjacent tules on the South Lake for an hour. I guess the water is still too cold to expect much...not s bite. Better luck next week!

Report: Fished in the Fog for 3 hrs this afternoon. North lake for 2 1/2 hrs at the pier on the south side opposite the Boathouse and along the bank. also, fished the bank at the impoundment for 30 minutes. Fished a chartreuse bleeding spinner bait, drop shot rig with different color Robo Worm flukes, whacky rigged Yum Dinger. Got one biteon the drop shot rig and a hit on the spinner bait...missed both fish. No excuses, was paying more attention to my cigar than the fishing. I'll try again tomorrow.

Report: Hey glad to see some reports from lake merced. I fish there once in a while. Not to many hook ups. In the last two weeks caught a 6" and 8" LMB. I guess they are spawning in here. Boy I think they should stop planting trout and plant a sh*t load of bass I bet the bass fishing would be off the hook. Only my thoughts.
    City: ssf

Tips: Caught the 8" lmb on a 6" Kimini blk/blue fleck at the edge of the tules and the other on a blk/silver spinner right off the shore both on the north lake.

Report: Fished South Lake with my son for a couple of hours. Mostly threw spinnerbaits - slow rolled along tules. Nothing bit... but it was a nice day. Phil Matier and Andrew Ross of the Chronicle came along and asked us some questions about the DPW pier(and why we weren't fishing there). When it warms up a bit, the fishing should get better - right?

    Water Temp: Cold

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Fished the boat docks and North Lake today. Threw a black and blue jig with a curley tailed grub trailer into the tules and my trusty white spinner bait slow rolled along the bottom. Cast along the tule line and rocks. Tried jigging a silver/black rattle trap along the docks. The water was so cloudy, I thought the flash and vibration might help.

Stayed 2 1/2 hours with no bites. It was a nice day - about 55 degrees, however it got windy about 30 minutes before I left.
    City: Daly City

Tips: Water is kind of cold and muddy, right now...try a jig with a rattle orsomething with a bit of flash moved slowly.
