Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Told my son about the bass I stuck at Lake Merced two days ago. He went to the lake in the am before work and found the spot. No bedding fish, no nothing. He cast a few baits around and still nothing. It was early, so he went back at lunch.

The sun was bright, very little wind, good visibility, no fish.

A guy comes by and asks if he's had any luck.

My son says "No, but there should be a couple of largemouth bass on the beds, here."

The guy says "Oh, yeah...somebody told me they caught a couple of nice size bass here - yesterday"

    Well.....
    City: Daly City, CA

Tips: These bass were guarding a spawning bed. Now, some idiot has taken them both out had apparently had them for dinner.

Please catch and release, that in a few years the
same idiot can take a couple of fish home to eat and there will still be bass for others to catch for sport.

I really should have mentioned that in my report a couple of days ago.

Report: Saw a couple of bass in shallows guarding a bed. As I approached (stealthily as I could) they moved off a point into a bit deeper water. They did return, however a few minutes later. Pitched a small swimming minnow bait along a brushline close to the bed and got one of them (about 2 1/2 lbs.)

Tips: Patience, fish slowly, soft plastics cast into deeper water, worked slowly into shallower depths should work

Report: Fished a couple of days ago on the evening bite. I was able to pull two LMB out (1 1/2 lbs. 1 dink)in about an hours time. The larger fish had what looked like a large sore on his gill plate, still it pulled hard.

    Tips: Fish slow......

Report: You do not need a special permit on this lake anymore. Believe it or not, I have seen boats launched here, but you could use inflatables or tubes. Right now, I would be throwing Senkos in the tules and shallows for bedding bass or dropshotting 4-6 inch worms in an oxtail or margarita mutilator color.

Report: can some one tell me how to fish for bass in merced? I know there is bass in there, but have never tried. It's impossible to get a boat in there with the luanch, and I assume you can't rent anything there no more. What do you guys throw out there?

Report: There are very few lakes around here that have a shape and/or depth to allow for putting in a net, each lake almost has to have a custom net to do that too. Add to that the time, money and bodies it takes to dive and attach it and you're really talking about a commetment. Don't think you'll be seeing many of those events happening anymore. Maybe if you went to a trout farm. Though fish were caught at both laakes, to me a successful event is one where people learn enough skills to be able to come back another day, when it isn't so busy (as it was that day)and rig, tie hooks etc. on their own. I think this learn to fish clinic did that.

For bass, hit the many tulles there are here and fish shallow with swimbaits, as the fish are either spawning or soon to.

Report: I think that the Trout Day was a success too. When you do it for the kids you are an automatic winner. I brought my boy and his cousin who I pre registered with Mondy, thank god because it was a mad house with last minute arrivals. Anyway the only thing that was disappointment was that the fish were free swimmers and not pinned in so that the kids could get a sure catch instead of a lesson in patience(which fishing is all about. You mentioned a bass bite? Fill me in on it.

Report: I am sorry I didn't see the request for Cal Trout Day sooner. The event for kids was a huge success yesterday eith over 200 families showing up. MASS QUANITIES of fish were palanted for this event, and most of them are still there.
North lake found most of the success considering the pressue from the event. Trout to 22 inches on this side with a worm or Power Bait.
    Small bass bite still.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Went shore ishing with my riend all day and caught nothing. No trout bites, no lure bites... used a ew dierent lures. Just a week ago, I caught and released a small mouth bass a little less than a pound. I have seen large carp caught in the area. They like to hide in the weedy areas, where you can see the big ones jumping and lipping close to shore just by looking into the weeds. That was a month ago until one man tried to catch them, stupidly he cut down most o the vegetation in the area. Now there are pretty much no more ish in the area.

Report: Went out there or about three hours with no luck. No bites or anything. There were some ish jumping though. I was ishing with powerbait and lures. This was my irst time back in 10 years and could't believe that there were no ishermen,no concession stand, or boat rentals, etc. This used to be one o the best ishing areas around, I caught more ish there than at del-valle, chabot, or Los Vasqueros put together. To bad the lake has gone to hell.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: well i was bored this past sunday so i took the dog to the south lake at the beach. didn't expect to catch anything but walked away with three 14" to 15" trout in about 2.5 hours time. i was ishing yellow power bait with a short 10" leader beore the sliding sinker, shorter than what i normally use. the trout seemed to be very actively eeding as all the ish i caught hit the bait as it was sinking or being retrieved, moving. a guy comes down trying or bass, i had never seen a bass pulled rom this lake but heard o it. well his second cast pulled one out. a ew more casts and he pulls another one along the weeds on the east end o the shore. couldn't believe it.
