Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: launched at dinasour point ran accross to the dam
to fish around the rocks.started about 7:00 with
jerkbait(my favorite for this)started catching fish right off the start.like the other reports yoy can catch all the stripers you want right now.most fish between 18"-24".did get one 7.6 and
one 8.9.that is what my boga grip scale said.and
i also caught two largemoth bass just about fell out of the boat about 2lb each.real good looking fish to.well when i went back to pull out i thought why not try this cove before i left plenty of fish there also.just fishing the banks like i was bass fishing.alot more fun than bait fishing by far.
City: salinasTips: stay away from the real flat area's you need a little depth.

Water Temp: 71
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: The Big lake Fished the 7th and 8th for about 5 to 6 hours each day. Water was glass for the most part till about 3pm. Started the days about 9 to 10am fished cranks and spooks, strike pro popper no luck first three hours.
Then Started Graffing fish 30 to 40 foot both days. So I thought I would try it with a Drop Shot rig. First day used plastics missed a bunch and caught 4 keepers and a few smaller(salt&pepper)worked best. I am not one for bait fishing but I thought I would try fresh dead shad on the drop shot rig day two. We caught 20+ fish 9 of those were keepers. Two keepers on dubble Hook Up! Fun Day. I will try some more plastics on this and let ya know. oh and not a one was gut hooked.
Good Luck!
Be Safe! Don.
City: Dos PalosTips: 3 to 4' off the bottom with plastics or bait on Drop shot rig. keep watching some top water starting

Water Temp: ?
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Camped out at Basalt over the weekend. First time at San Luis Res. so I talked to the rangers and they pointed me in the right directions. Ended up working Goosehead Point and scratching up a 19" fish on a spinner bait. I also used anchovies and these 1 ft. sea worms that I got from Lucky Larrys these baits only got me small nibblers that would not take it all the way(must of been some small fish). Also, before I had left for this trip I had tried to get some information via e-mail from Coyote Bait and Tackle and got no response. You would think they could respond and help a fellow fisherman out. Anyway, I was one of those bank fisherman and am looking for tips from a any other bank fisherman that has some helpful/valid ideas on fishing this body of water.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: well finally the wind let up enough to go out on san luis.launched at dinasour point and wanted to fish al the way in the back but they have dropped the lake so much i aint there no more.went back to portiguez cove and started throwing a jerk bait with no luck.then went to yellow rat-l-trap
for the same result.so then went to the old standby cut anchovie in about 60 feet of water in the same area.cought 6 fish two largest went 26"
the rest about 16"-18".lot's of bank fisherman so
they must be also catching fish on bait.
City: salinasTips: if you do bait fish anchor in one spot and dont move let the fish come to you becouse it always works but you may go an hour or more between bites.

Water Temp: 52-53.5
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Went to the big lake to see whats going on..The big lake is in good shape and coming up quick. Water color was great. Fished breaks and wind blown banks for an hour with jerkbaits and traps for one small fish. Started to meter fish in cottonwood and dropped a minnow down and had a grab on the first drop. Myself and guest landed 15 or so with most in the 2.5-3lb range and solid fish for my partner that went 21 even. That fish put up one hell of a fight. We fished with 12lb Flouro and 8ft light steelhead rods. Al were released
City: San JoseTips: There are some fish to be caught on artificials but we used live bait and rods were bent. The wind came up in a matter of 5 min!! It went from flat to very lumpy. And just like that it was DAY OVER...keep an eye on the wind to stay out of trouble and for god sakes where a life jacket!! I can't believe how many anglers I see out there in small boats and no friggin PFD. It's not worth dieing.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: I went chasing some stripers today. Started out ishing over by Fisherman's Point near the damn(with minnows)with no luck, but inder showed them @ 15-20 eet. Ran over by Goosehead Point and ished (with minnows) with no luck. Then ran out by the Trash Stacks and landed on top o a big school o shad. Tried throwing jigs, broken backs, a Kastmaster, and some topwater lures too. Still no luck. Wind was almost non-existent until about 11am, then only to 10mph or so. Decided I was thoroughly sunburnt by 3pm, so I loaded the boat and went home. Saw one boat with a nice stringer, but everyone else I talked to seemed to be having a hard time inding them also. Temperature was about 92 degrees in the shade, so that probably had a lot to do with it.
