About every other cast I had either a blow-up or a ish. Boated 4 or 5 more and then Kevin wanted to know i I had another one o those top water things, so I handed him one and said, have un! He got bit right away. Just beore dark we moved out to Jones Valley Point and boated 4 more on top. These were better ish, 1.8 to 2.2, nice at spots. We were out o the water by 10:00PM and my riend said he had a great time.

Report: out with the Cottonwood Bass Team or a night tournament, in at Packers with the lake down past 45 eet, air temp 106 degrees at 5 pm, poor Ryan Pearson was unortunate enough to draw me as his boater, spent the evening dealing with dinks as did most everybody else withe the exception o Je Pyles who won the event and John Coyle who managed a 7.40 largemouth or the big ish prize. There were a number o short limits, me and Ryan included but I did manage to put a 2.41 smallmouth in the boat and got the smallmouth pot, everybody had trouble inding ish and when they did, they were usually small, no breeze to speak o and the lake is a mess. Since then I have been out once or more dinks in the Jones Valley with most coming on rip and topwater baits very early. Drop shotting the MGM #109 3 inch sluggo and smaller baits have been productive including the #127 in a 4 inch. Things are very slow, heavy boat traic and we are nearing 50 t down which will put the ramp at bailey cove out o the water by the 27th.

Report: not a lake report, went down to the Red Blu Diversion Dam or some shad ishing with a local legend, Bill Quinn Sr. Bill operates a guide service on the river and Shasta Lake(530)474-3213 and lives up near Shingletown. I have known Bill or a couple o years and we talked about some shad ishing a ew days ago so o we went with my bride included. Got in at the dam at 0515 and ran downstream about 3/4 mile near salt creek and got onto ish right o the bat, Bill caught the irst and my wie,Bronla had one on just as Bill got his in, both at hens o about 4lbs. I got hooked up and brought a small male to the boat ater he surged around and under the boat. We averaged about a ish every 15 minutes and the wie caught a at emale at 9am that went over 5 lbs or the ish o the day, we lost as many as we had on. Gotta love these Sacramento River "tarpon". They are a great ighting ish and are beautiul in their spawning colors. Most olks up this way haved not gotten on the ish lately but Bill sure knew where to ind them. We moved twice and got bit in all three places, boat placement was very critical. We had a ball and I am looking orward to the salmon opener on the 16th, Bill's salmon inding skills are well above the norm. ended up with 20 ish total ater I kept hearing that "they ain't up here yet" rom a number o people. great trip on a beautiul cool morning. The rive is currently at 10,000 cs, put in at 68 degrees, out at 88 and the water is gin clear.

Report: You just can't count on these kids anymore and it makes me wonder what the youth o today is going to do whe it's their turn to run this country, I took Ryan ishing this am and he went and caught the irst ish which I think is pretty rude. It is getting so that you just can't take these kids out!@!@ we got in at bailey cove at 4am, ait temp at 75, water going down past 32t and dropping like a rock now, water muddy upstream and stained downstream. ran up the McCloud ishing points with jigs and I get bit on irst cast but it hops o then this nasty kid sticks a dink and puts it in the boat. I am going to have to call Ryan's mother as he needs a beating. we go on down the bank and he does it again three more time beore I get my irst ish to stay on ater the next three hop o on the way to the boat. Ran up past Dekas Rock or some more dinks and then go to worms about 630am, Barry Ng's rainblow #99 proved to be my ace in the hole today, no size but I couldn't get them to go on anything else except an MGM #26 in a 3 inch curly tail, the ones I caught just inhaled the #99. The hotshot kid in the back seat couldn't get bit on a worm so air is air. Had a good time and Ryan is a credit to his mom and dad.

Report: John Coyle's buddy, Harlan whom I ished with the other night made me some o his newangled Shasta crawlers in root beer yesterday. They are a creature looking thing with twin tails that Harlan caught some nice ish on so I thought I would give them a try ater leaving MGM yesterday. Got in at Jones Valley at 2am ater I woke up and couldn't go back top sleep. Ran up near Clickapudi and caught 5 between 3am and 530 am which was a little slow ater the night beore. moved to a gray rock section and tossed the crawler up close to the bank and it dropped about a oot and got slammed. Good ish on and kicked the trolling motor hard let to get o the beach. A ew minutes later up comes a big spot. Get it netted and I got the shakes, weight it at/or near 5 .9 lbs and call my wie and Big Daddy down south and I am pumped. its 23 inches long. Stick it in the livewell and pray some one will come by so I can get a picture, move down the bank and get a 2.6 about 30 t away. continue down the bank and stick a 3.5 o a little red mud bank between two gray rock sections. This all happened in 15 minutes and I am sky high. slip the 2.6 and the 3.5 back into the water and head or jones valley with the hope o inding someone or a picture, out comes a gray looking ranger and I wave the guy down and ask him to take a picture. I haul the big one out and he says "damn" "what did you catch him on" His name is Greg and he snaps a couple o photos and I hand him a ew crawlers and slip the ish back into the water. HOT DAMN what a morning. get out at 715 am air temp up to 77 rom the 70 when I put in and lake is dropping past 27 t, water is murky with a major bug hatch underway.

Report: Gave my buddy Hasrlan a buzz and o we went to Jones Valley, got in at 840 pm and ran out into the lower pit at 88 degrees and the lake is down past 26t, harlan got on them right o the bat on his own rendition o a grub, he had ive in the boat beore I got my irst and one was a good 2.5 or thereabouts. we hit a bunch o dinks ater that witha ew 1.8's to 1.6 thrown in or good measure. Harlan suggested a spot and we hit a bunch more dinks and a ew good ones and we are passing 30 ish by now, we move to one o my avorites and get a ew more and I stick a 2.2 and an hour later a 2.9 which ended up the big ish o the evening but Harlan had one on that was a good one but hopped o. Beautiul night , slight breeze out o the northeast and we actually saw two other boats ishing. got out at 130 am and the bite was still on. 70 degrees on the way home, GOTTA LOVE THIS NIGHT FISHING!!
