Folsom Lake

Water Temp: 76
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Irony. Seems I get a dose everytime I strap it on lately. This day was no dierent. What would you call catching at least one 3lb largemouth or better eveytime or a month except two tournament dates? This was the second o the two tournaments and we caught 7 keepers to 2.6lbs or 10.74- good enough to win a Newbass catagory 1 event. (boats under 100hp) My partner bladed one ish on a main lake point early, and rom there we worked the north rom Beale's Point to the narrows. We were in his boat and he caught our total on spinnerbaits. It was a six hour event and we had only 5 ish when we returned to our second spot near Beale's at 11:30. Talk about pulling it out. There I dragged worms and caught ish 6 & 7 back to back in the last hour. In the irst event two weeks ago I bladed ish rom the ront o my boat, and my partner split shot the money ish on that same spot in that event's last hour. The lake is dropping almost two eet per week and it won't be a spot or much longer. Within the irst two hours it was apparent the reaction bite had cooled o. Our dilema was either accelerate the rock to rock, run and gun blade pattern or slow down and worm the areas that produced ish. My partner wasn't a believer in the ormer, but he began to lean that way ater he nailed a ew. He opted or stopping and worming however, and it worked. Hard to second guess success, but one wonders the result had we pressed the reaction. Missed one strike on a jig and that's ater i threw it a substancial amount o the time. The jig had been working shallow, but the ish moved o. Props to my partner Terry. He turned around his tracker and came within two pounds o going back to back in club tournament on the delta the next day. He inished third on a nasty, wind blown, post ront day competing against a ew pros with rigs that would be considered o-shore capable by comparison. At the Folsom event I told Larry Newby I was a local. He asked me my opinion o the bite and I said it was the slowest in a month. I said the reaction had almost come to a complete stop. Ater that statement one o the top catagory II teams got up and said they caught over 20 on PopRs. Go igure.
City: El Dorado HillsTips: Sometimes just a subtle change in conditions can abruptly slow down a reaction bite. A very minor ront came through and we went to a sotpastics back-up. Let the speed o the action and the quality o the ish help you decide how to get the best result rom limited time on the water.

San Justo Lake

Water Temp: 76
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Got on the lake at 0730. Only a couple o other boats out. The lake is so low I would not recommend anything but an aluminum boat to prevent rock damage while launching. The dock is on the bottom and tilted to one side. I caught 9 bass and one trout. All ish came on rocky points in 25-35 t o water, either drop shotting a 4" Zipper worm or carolina rigged 4" watermellon senko. The trout hit the senko as I was pulling it up out o 35t o water. It was about 2lbs. The bass were all small with the lagest going about 2.2 lbs. It was a un time. I only ished 3 hrs.
City: Foster CityTips: Fish 25 t or more with 4" worm either texas or carolina rigged or use a drop shot and shake it. The deeper the water the bigger the ish.

Clear Lake
-
Water Temp: 62-65
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Been ishing Clearlake every weekend or the past couple months preparing or tournaments. Fishing is tough, but there are good quality ish to be ound. Frog bite has been excellent on the North end o the lake, but is tailing o and the weeds are dying o rapidly. This is concentrating the ish and under the right conditions good rog bites are still possible. Frog ish have been averaging 4#, but you may only get a ew bites a day. Jigs in brown/purple have been productive under docks and in rocky areas. Have also been getting some crank bait ish on red craw and brown craw FF Shad and Normans DD-22/DLNs mostly on the South end o the lake.
City: BrentwoodTips: Be careul going into Rodman. Saw several boats get stuck on sand bar in ront o Island. Made it in by triming up and going in at 60MPH but still hit bottom and sanded my skeg and prop.
-
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: This report is in response to the previous report. I am deinitely no expert on Clear Lake, but I do have some ideas that have worked or me that you can work with on your trip. First o all, weather is going to play a major actor in your trip. I it is still in the upper 80's to 90's you can still get on a decent topwater bite. Also, you should still be able to get on some rog ish as well. The nice thing about the rog ishing is that it gets better as the day goes on. I the weather has cooled o some, I would suggest trying to ind yoursel some decent size rock piles and either deep crank them or Carolina a brush hog or big dead ringer worm. All the pro's and locals that ish out there rely on the rockpiles at one time or another,it's just a matter o locating them. One other thing, late summer and early all starts a baitish migration, so don't orget to chuck your rattletraps and ripbaits around. My buddy I had a day in late Sept. last year where we put over 50 ish up to 7 pounds in the boat ripping a cove. The bass had corraled a ton o bait ish and were practically tearing the rod out o our mits on the hit. The 7 pounder we caught ripped the bait away rom a 2 pounder that we were ighting. This method should be productive i you have some cloud cover and a little wind. Good luck.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fri. morn. let McClure Pt. around 6:30. Fished mostlyparts south o there. Caught ish 1# to 4# using Shad rap,Green Weenie, and (wh/char) spinners around islands. Ater 10 AM NOTHING. Weather was great, sun was high and a breeze was welcomed. Coves and backwater held only dinks.
Tips: water level is low and dropping. Underwater islands aren'talways where you expect them to be. The lake could be dangerous i you take too many chances. More than once, I was surprised.

The wind got worse while we were in Blue canyon with gusts near 35 knots. ran over to dead horse or two, one by bryce and a blowup on a jittebug in the middle o a shad ball. got o at 950am with the wind getting worse as we pulled out., stopped at the Jones valley market or a coke and saw two riends there on their way to the lake, bought a coke rom Diane and went home ater eyeballing some pictures o recently caught catish. i the wind keeps up this weekend the ABA guys are going to be in a bit o a tough situation. Report: Forget the mickey mousing with the plastics. You only need one thing or nighttime right now. BLACK BUZZBAIT. Caught some nice ish last night. Just keep the boat moving and throw the buzzbait til your arm alls o. Awsome explosions. Flats with grass, shallow banks. Its nice to just throw one thing the whole night. The one thing I can say is have conidence in it. Stick with it. I'm starting to listen to you G-Man. I'm still shaking rom the explosions.
City: PetalumaTips: Used a 1/2 oz Persuader black/blue buzzbait with a yamamoto twintail D/T H-Grub 5"(214). Just trim the skirt o at the top and thread it on and then add the trailer hook. You won't regret it. It will work on any lake. It took about 45 mins or my irst hookup. So you have to be patient and stick with it. Just my 02cents worth. Good luck.

Report: Well, my buddy and I hit the good old Delta once again. I knew better than to venture out on Labor Day weekend. We started out o Hollands tract and hit my avorite spot to start. Managed a ish on a buzz bait and then started throwing the senkos and the speed traps. The boats started getting out o hand. We let around 5:00 P.M. All in all we managed about 15 Bass. They were all small and the largest was only 1.5 lbs. I igured any bass in his right mind would be reaked out by all o the boat traic. My buddy went out this morning 9-4 but, I havent talked to him yet hope he did well. I he did I will let you know. Best o luck out there
City: AlamedaTips: Catch and release. Oh yea almost orgot two o the bass we caught actually had crawdads in there bellies. When I looked down there throat I saw a claw sticking out. One o the claws was still moving. I o course let them go to inish the digestion process.

We saw a small tulle patch 50 eet rom the bank in 20 eet o water. The next thing I knew he had a BIG ish on. He said it was in about 10 eet o water and that he was workin it slow. 7.10 was the weight. The total was 8 pounds or the day so the other 3 we got were not good. It was a tough day but that ish made the trip. I got a lot o good ino here so thanks to all o you.
