Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fished Friday and Saturday. Friday landed a 2,3 & 5#. Saturday only caught a good story. Fishing a minnow in Miner Cove and set my rod down in the boat, next thing I know the whole rig went flying into the water. Spent the next hour with a treble hook trying to snag my rod and the monster on the other end. After the ranger came by to check licenses we moved onto the next cove. Feeling sorry for myself, not sure what pissed me off more; losing the fish, my favorite rod and reel or not paying attention enough to lose both, we see a boat heading towards us with a gentleman with his dog holding up a rod asking if I had lost it. After he handed my rig back he opened up his livewell and pulls out a 4.5# fish and says, by the way this was attached to it too. Kind of the fish that got away story, and a hearty thanks to Robin and his dog for giving it a good ending. May his fish be large and bend his pole often.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: My friend Stephen and I fished the Delta today out of Big Break Marina. We started first at Franks Tract, then moved to Ironhouse Slough, tried 3 mile and ended the day at the Break. I caught two Largemouth Bass, a small dink and a 14-1/2" 1lb 8oz. My friend caught a solid bass about 2 pounds, and a real beauty weighing an even 5 pounds. We tried buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, crankbaits, lipless rattling baits, and jigs, but all our fish were caught on Gary Yamamoto's Senko.

      Water Temp: 62

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fished first light to 2 pm and managed to put 17 in the boat. Probably had a respectable limit to 17 lbs or so. Our normal early morning bite was not on with reaction baits, so we pulled out onto flats and anchored. This method seemed to do the trick, as we hit some nice blacks, striper and even a steelhead. Fish were caught on a variety of baits.
      City: roseville, ca

Tips: Work flats with deeper water around it. The delta has fish that are on their beds, but also has fish that will not spawn for another month. What makes the delta unique is the fact that the fish are always in different stages and can be caught on a variety of methods.

      Water Temp: 66

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: We launched out of Orwood and started in Rock Slough just to the north. Small ones took a red speedtrap but nothing special. We found other active fish on the flats just east of Turner Cut. The bit was slow. Finally we gave up on all that cranked stuff and went to split shotting and Senkos in the back of Cruiser Haven. Fish were stacked up back there in the shallow weeds. Slow fishing with a weenie or a Senko worked. We fished Senkos for the first time and didn't really know what to do but the fish helped us learn.
      City: Belmont

Tips: It seems strange to say go way slow with water temp in the mid 60's but thats what it took.

      Water Temp: 62-68

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: My buddy and I launched at Tiki at around 6:30. We ran to Mildred and had the first fish in the boat by 8:00. We moved around more than we normally do today and caught fish at every stop. We ended up with eight fish. Most of the fish were taken on Senkos. Fishing them very slow to a complete dead stick. The wind picked up horribly at around 4:00 so we pulled out. Caught my personal best fish to date a 5-1/2 lb, 22-1/2 inch TOAD. Gotta love Senkos. Fish were up shallow saw the starting of some beds.
      City: Modesto

Tips: SENKOS what else? Fish them as slow as you can allow yourself to fish them.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Finally made it out to Calero with my brother. I didn't go out at all last year. Yep, pretty SAD :-(Anyways, got there late about 9am. My brother was let on his own or an hour and a hal. His irst time ishing there so he was paying his dues trying to igure out what they were biting and where. We talked to a couple o people and it seemed plastic worms were working or them and spinnerbaits weren't.We walked the shore or a couple o hours until 11am.We each got bit once. A small one on a black iretail worm or him and a nice one just under 5 or me on a brown jigand plastic trailer. I orgot the camera. Oh well, there's always next time :-)
      City: Fremont

Tips: Many thanks to you all who practice catch and release.I hope to tangle with some o those you've put back and I will always do the same or others to enjoy.Plastics and jigs. I I had more time, would have tried spinnerbaits and crankbaits a bit more.

Report: Since no one else has posted since my last report, I will add a ootnote. While I am loving my new ull-time day guiding job, I don't think I will give up my night guiding job either. I think I just won't sleep!! I guided two un Canadian ellows rom 5:30pm to 1:30am on a surprisingly mild evening. It started o a bit weird as we missed several on the south side o Konocti Bay, but did manage to land 3 beore dark. Their goal was to each land a bass over 5 pounds, since those are rare in Canada. These guys were pumped as I landed a 5 1/2 on a Weapon jig about 9:30. The very next cast changed his lie orever as one o them nearly doubled his goal, landed a 9 lb 9 oz pig. This bass was gorgeous, with a big pot-belly to boot! I wish every reader o this report could have been on the boat to share this guys excitement!! He took measurements or a iberglass mount. The brush hog and Power hog continue to be outstanding night baits. Ater that, we ished them the rest o the trip, catching several quality bass. Near the end o the trip, the other guy is getting concerned about not getting his 5, so I took them into the back o the marina at Buckingham. Again - I caught a 5, and on the next cast, the other guy catches his dream ish, a 5 lb 9 oz mini-toad. On our way in, we stopped at the place where the irst guy got the 9, and he hooked another big ish - at least 6 or 7 lbs, but he lost it. He tried to horse it - too much adrenalin I guess!! We landed about hal o our bites, 10 bass total, the ive biggest at 30 lbs 3 oz - my third consecutive 30 lb guided limit - what a week!! Today I took out two guys or a 6 hour intro to bass ishing trip. We ished the west side o the Rattlesnake arm, and they actually caught 3, about 2 lbs each on #221 Senkos. One o them lost a pretty big ish. I caught a ew up to 4 1/2 lbs. We quit just as the rain started!
      City: Yuba City

Tips: We still ound ish in the tules today under heavy cloud cover, but not nearly as many as there were on the sunny days. Monday night I ound ish in the tules, but last night we couldn't raise a ish in the tules, only in rock. Go igure!

      Water Temp: 57-61

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Well, the term "rags to riches" really applied to me the past three days at Clear Lake. I ished the north end or about 6 hours with riends on Tues, and ound conditions horrid, with only one 3 lb bass caught. Folks were blaming it on simply too much ishing pressure, and the thunderstorm activitity (no sun) didn't help. I had guided the night beore with six ish in the boat up to 7 pounds, so I didn't eel too bad. BUT, Wed and Thurs made my early retirement rom teaching seem like a wonderul decision. I guided two great guys or 2 days, or some o the best spring ishing I have ever experienced at Clear Lake. We had 30 1/4 and 31 lb 5 ish limits - 16 bass each day - and one client got an 8 (Rodstrainer jig) on Wed, and his buddy got an 8 3/4 (Senko) on Thurs. And I was in total shock when I landed my irst-ever Clear Lake smallmouth - 3 3/4 lbs. One o the clients landed two more - a 3 and 3-2. Three smallmouth in an hour - unbelieveable!!!! They all took a Rodstrainer jig, and were all against rock walls in the Rattlesnake arm. All o our bass were caught in 2 to 8 eet o water - the warm sun was what the doctor ordered or these bass - the bite started about 11:30 am, and lasted till about 4 pm. We were targeting the irst cruising bass I had seen this year and shallow tules that had algae around them. It was interesting that the male bass were in the tules (sun) but the bigger emales were under docks (shade). Other that one bass caught on a chartreuse hula grub, all our bass were caught on brown/orange Rodstrainer jigs with #180 grubs, and the majority on dark colored 5" Senkos - #221, 222, 194, etc. We ished mostly in the Rattlesnake arm (Island and west shore), the Buckingham area, and a little in Konocti Bay. One client threw spinnerbaits a lot - no takers. These trips were this guides dream!!
      City: Yuba City

Tips: We only elt a ew bites - watch your line like a hawk! I saw bass take my baits and elt nothing! Try to judge how long it takes or the Senko to hit bottom, leave it or 2 seconds, and then lit slowly - trying to eel the dierence between being caught on a tule and a bass! The pressure will increase i a bass has it. The weather is going to change a ew hours ater I write this, so the ish will move back o the shore. Fish shallow i the sun is out, and deeper i it is cloudy. Reaction bite should get better i we have a storm this weekend.

Report: the bite is on and there are a great quantity o quality bass here. held a club tourney there and caught some nice hawgs. all the nice size ish are moving about into the coves.caught my limit by 8:30 in the morning using weightless oxblood worms and making long casts into clear shallow waters. very eective beore the sun hits the water. cast into all pockets o the coves and you'll have success.
      City: aptos

Tips: when the sun comes up,use tube baits and hula grubs and senkos
