Report: Went out of big break marina and had lots of luck. fished only from 2:30-5:00p.m. and caught eight fish. two 1lb, 3 2.5lbs, 3 3lbs, and one 4.75lb. All caught crankind a model 6A in black chrome pattern. I was pulling it two feet and stopping just long enough for me to reel back and pull again. pulling it only a tad slower than i would in summer. All fish were at scattered depths but all fish ate the bait well. the bait was all the way in their mouths. No luck shakin worms or flippin jigs. The craks were killin em. I think the key was using 10lb line. I didnt get a bite on twleve switched to 10 and killed em. All fish caught out of marina. Most marinas are stacked with fish just got to have faith and look for clear water. Try all depths fish are scattered. As i said before just have faith that the fish will hit the faster moving bait. Good fishin to all. any q's e-mail me.

Report: ok reading some of these comments about how tought this lake is makes me laugh. Like all lakes the bite can shut down but thats rare and far between. Ive been fishing this lake for 6yrs mainly on the vboat w/ major sucess(seeing is believing, look in the photo album on this site) The biggest diffrence ive seen between people catching bass and not isnt the bait used but in the line size. This lake can get incredibly clear and these fish can easliy see the thick line these some people are using. Good luck and continue to catch and release.

Report: I did not say I'd never had a good day at Almaden.
I bet I caught more bass (for last three years at Almaden) than you did for your whole life. My point is many bass fishermen I met there believe so many inflated fishing stories and look for what they've heard.

      Report: Arthur,
It sounds like you just suck! Three years and you never had a good day at Almaden. Get out on a float tube and either drop shot, crank bait it, or senkos.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Sorry, this is not a report. I've been fishing for over three years around this area. I am telling you this Almaden is the one tough lake for catching bass. Do not believe the fishing reports on the baord and what they say whom you just meet there, specially how big of bass they caught unless you see it in front of you or picture. If you really want to catch bass desperately here, illegal entry night fishing is the ticket. It is on your own risk.
      Good luck & fishing!

Altogether, it was the only fish we caught, we got like 4 more hits after it, hunter saved a bird in distress.

Report: I read the ollowing report with surprise. I ished the same day and had a very dierent experience. Fished almost exclusively on oshore structure (rocks) and cranked the snot out o them. I never got bit. Tried everything. My partner seems to like to drag things, and as the day progressed he picked up a ew small ones. Being stubborn, I continued to orce the reaction bite. Finally, at the end o the day, I threw a jig and did not move it at all and got bit. That was the key, cast and do not move at all. Ive seen it where you gotta ish slow, but this bite was strange. Maybe ish havent settled on oshore structure yet, and the crank bite is happening more near the shoreline.
