Water Temp: 58
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: This past weekend was a little tougher fishing then my last report. I got to the lake
late Friday afternoon and headed out for awhile to see how the bass were biting. I
landed a few bass using brass and glass and a senko. On Saturday I took out Jeff
and his son Dustin for the day. My plan was to start at the Ranch house and head
towards the vineyards. We stopped at a few points and tried brass and glass with
very little luck. The first fish of the day was caught on a R2S crawdad and Procure
crawdad scent. We continued on to the vineyards in a better frame of mind. At the
vineyards where we could see the tree stumps in the water, Dustin threw out a senko
watermelon with black fleck and was hit almost immediately by a bass. We kept getting
hits and reeled in some nice size bass (see photos). As we were heading back I
decided to try my favorite cove and it turned out to be a good decision. Dustin got
very lucky and landed five crappies one after the other. His father and I have to
take lessons from him on how to catch crappies!!!!!! It was a very enjoyable day.
Sunday the weather played games with me all day. One minute it was sunny and
warm and the next the wind picked up and it was cloudy and cold. But that didn't
stop me from landing a few nice bass and a couple of trout. Bass are starting to go
to the shallow water and the top water bite hasn't turned on yet but I hope it will
soon. 'til next week.................................................good fishing!!!!!!!!

Report: Tough bite for bass on Saturday and Sunday. Son, John, and I fished from rental boats for five hours each day and produced only two bass. On Saturday, I scraped out a nice 3 lb 10 oz bass taken on a black Swimming Senko rigged on a 3/8 oz. Jobe head. The fish came from 15 feet deep off the end of a sunken tree. On Sunday, John landed a nice 2 1/2 lb bass using a black/blue jig right up against the tules in a patch where there is a few feet of depth on the outside of the tules.
Many casts with swimbaits, lizards, salamanders, jigs, drop-shotted wacky-rigged 5-inch Senko's, crankbaits and buzzbaits yielded no bites. We fished the west shoreline from the dam back to just south of Coot's Landing. It's frustrating not getting bites from the smaller bass which must be there, while trying for the lunkers that are definitely in the lake.
City: MontereyTips: We did see some large (10+) bass cruising in the shallows, some with smaller bass accompanying them, but no beds were visible yet. If there is any spawning occurring on that side of the lake, it's in the dark zone not visible from the surface. Fan-casting into that zone is what produced my fish.

Amador Lake
-
Water Temp: 63
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Well, got a mixed bag report. The good news is I caught some nice quality fish. Caught them a number of ways. Beds, d-shot, rip, jig. Hit my big fish, a 6'14 on a bed. There were bed fish everywhere, but mostly 2 pound males. The bad news is that Lake Amador is the lowest I have ever seen it right now and that makes for a very boring, non structure type lake. All the brush and drop offs are 50 feet out of the water. Plus, the moss is horrible already. Most of the beds are surrounded by it making bed fishing a pain. Also, forget fishing any jigs or plastics in the top 15 feet of the water column. As soon as it even sniffs the bottom it is loaded up with that stringy green stuff. I was excited to throw the Huddy and unless you are throwing it 20 feet or deeper be ready to come back with your whole Huddy engulfed in the stuff. I wish Amador would let youi know these conditions when you call up there. Drop shotting worked a little, but most of the fish are shallow and that was still tough with the thickness of the moss. I'm not joking when I tell you that it was really frustrating.
Tips: Like I stated, not a bad weight day. My best 5 went 19 pounds and it was cool seeing the big fish eat the jig, but just can't justify the money for the water quality. If you go, hope for a reaction bite, because plastics or jigs in the top 15 feet is basically a no go. Out off main points is you best bet. I would suggest going to Pardee.

Water Temp: 62
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Entirely different than last weekend with staging fish stacked on points in 0-15'.
Now...Very windy, Water dropped 2' since last weekend, MAJOR algae bloom ("Delta Cheese") all over the lake now (Hmmm, Frog bite coming soon!) and Fish locked on nests now.
City: Cameron ParkTips: Fish nests with fish on them, don't fish the empty nests. Seriously though, I didn't sight fish, but would cast onto bank and if I got bit and missed, would cast back to that spot until I hooked the fish. All 2+ lbs. Couple followers on swimbaits too.

Black Butte Lake

Water Temp: 55-60
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Camanche Lake
-
Water Temp: 59-63
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished Nor-Cal Bass tourney out of South Shore, started out throwing a white/chartrues blade on the points with stick ups and with no results. Saw fish busting bait fish in the adjacent cove so i started throwing MS-Slammer/Rainbow and got chrushed by a nice three pounder. Kept throwing it for the next hour and nothing else.
I tried cranking, ripping and blades but could not get a reaction bite going.
So i switched to a Senko, Grn/Punpking Blk/Flake and stared picking them up on a pretty consistant basis, but i had to hit areas with wood/stick-ups to get bit.
Lost two nice fish that would have put me in the 13-14 lb range; but ended up with best five going 11.35.
City: HimarTips: Start by giving top water a try; Spook, Popper, Slammer. Then go to Senko and Jigs; browns seem to be the thing. Fish the wood starting at the deepest stick ups first and fish your way in to the shallow stuff, be looking for bedding fish also, they are starting to move into the coves.

Camp Far West Lake
-
Water Temp: 58-60
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Some of the water you can see 5-10 ft deep. Tom Erickson and I fished Saturday and Sunday staying in the North Shore Camp Ground with some friends. The wind came up for each morning but the bass were biting. We started out with cranks and ripping, no takes. Jigs in Brown/Purple got some in 15-20 ft. Most of the bass are still waiting to spawn and some have. The bass are spooky along the banks. Saw no beds yet.
Drop shot in front of the dam just at the drop off point 25 ft, just full of small bass in 1-1 1/2 lb. Go up the Rock Creek and use a Fluke (white) with a small weight and let it fall slow along the banks. Use a small weight on the drop-shot and a Pro Worm Leach, can't miss.
City: RocklinTips: Look for the bait and big stacks of fish.

Clear Lake
-
Water Temp: 53-55
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: I had a nice trip yesterday with clients from the midwest! The "new" hip behaved well and the Evinrude fired right up after a 5 week break! The bite did seem slow to me and was confirmed by several I talked to after pulling the boat out. We fished out of Red Bud but didn't go north of Wheeler because of the increasing wind and 4 of us in the boat. Dad and the oldest son did ok, catching 4 nice bass up to 3 1/2 lbs. The young son hooked one but lost it. I fished some when the youngest took an extended nap!! I hooked a nice one in the afternoon but forgot how to set the hook - lost it! The bass were a little more aggressive in the afternoon when the sun appeared. Good to be back in the saddle, 'er, butt seat!!!!
City: Yuba CityTips: The jig bite was best for us with a black/blue Blade Runner jig. Only two bites on brown/orange. First bass was on a drop/shot rig - Berkley 4" green craw Power Worm. No drop/shot fish after that - strange. We didn't try anything with treble hooks with 4 in the boat. We did use some Basstrix swimbaits, but no takers this day. We probably could have finessed some more bass, but I did spend most of the time helping them look for the "big" bite. Alas, it still may take a week or so - warm weather should help at the end of next week, just in time for the big tourney!
