Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished Franks today. Last week during the WON pro/am most of the fish were still holding out deeper. This week, the water cleared, we had several days of warm weather and the fish moved up big time... just look at the monster 1st day weights of the AC TOC. Started by fishing shallow tules looking for a crank and swim bait bite w no love. Tossed a senko and boated a 5. Made a few moves and about 2 hours later boated a 4 punching some junk w a tube bait. A few moves later got a 3+ off a clump of peet w a drop shot. 3 fish at noon was definately slower pace than expected, but at least the quality was good. The tide was getting low and the sun was high, bed fish were everywhere. I bounced around but couldn't find any big ones locked. Got a few dinks and another 3+ off a bed w a drop shot. Got a little afternoon cloud cover and breeze to go w the incoming tide. I went back to the Osprey swim bait in the tules and got a few tail biters. A 5+ followed all the way to the boat but wouldn't commit. Hmmm. Came up to another peet clump and made a long cast to it. A few slow turns and Thunk! The rod loads and I figure this might be a good one. Then I see the head of this giant Delta Donkey wallowing with my swimbait deep in its mouth. It was a short fight thanks to a heavy 8' swimbait rod with 25lb Big Game. A solid 10lbs 14 oz makes it my first double digit swimbait fish. SWEEEET! Best five about 26lbs.

Couple of bedding bettys. Spit a valve on the Opti on the way back miles from Clearlake oaks. Nice people helped us out.

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished yesterday for about 5 hours and had decent results. It seems that with the exception of blades(ultra clear water) these fish will eat anything that you throw in the water. Senkos, brush hogs, dartheads, you name it. As long as it looks remotely like a crawfish or a minnow, they'll eat it. I, however, have not found much success with larger swimbaits. This year, I was hoping to boat a double digit, and the conditions sure are right, but, I think that the pressure, and seeing an 8" osprey slow-roller everyday for like a month and a half will do that to these bass. Believe me, 4 pounders will follow swimbaits back 5 or 6 at a time, but they do not seem to be committing, I even experimented with different retrieve speeds. I think that the key to it is that you have to find spots that aren't totally obvious, because you know the obvious ones have been hammered a thousand times before you got there. I have found success fishing spots that don't look as good to the anglers as they do the bass. One advantage to this ultra clear water is that you can locate spots that you normally cannot see (i.e brush piles, rocks)he he he he. And just because it doesn't look good to the angler doesn't mean the bass won't make it there living room!!! The lake is low, and that just makes for deeper spawning opportunities for the bass. Go fishing folks, it will not be good for long. Once the biggins get locked on, it may not be SLUGFEST 2007 anymore!!! Y'all need to get out there and experience CL at its best. It is not every year that you can see the BOTTOM OF THE LAKE!!!!! and not to mention piggies swimming everywhere HE HE HE HE!!! Go fishing and I'll see ya out there!!!
City: Upper LakeTips: Throw watcha got, you don't need to go to the pro shops and spend $3,000 on brand new shiny swimbaits. With all the pressure that this lake has seen, you'd be better off fishing dead-ass slow with a worm or jig to catch a quality sack. If it gets much warmer than this, summer will be longer that ya think. SEE YA'

Report: This placed is off the hook....!!!!
Fish Friday short day and caught about 15 fish to 2.5lbs But today I got 50 or so launched early at Cappell ran out to the main lake and about the 3rd cast got a 2-lb smallie, then a small spot wnet to the bank and saw beds galore no big ones but tons of 14-17" fish all species are up spawning NOW. I bet I saw 200+ beds today some of the fish would swim away but most were catchable. Didn't get any big one and no big ones on beds that I saw. Caught 5 or 6 3-lbers "all species" and 1 4lb spot Caught fish on a pumpkin jig and a drop shot using a sniper bolt worm. No top water, rip or swim bait fish 3 bites on a blade but no hook ups
City: MartinezTips: If you want to learn how to sight fish now is the time. Lots of fish to be caught w/o fishing beds also.

Contra Loma Lake
-
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Can't believe no noe else submits reports on this lake. Some of the biggest bass in the county can be found here. Anyway, big fish have now moved up on beds. Today I managed a 9.2 lb, a 2 and a 3. Big female smashed a chatterbait. I spooked her lastnight and went back today and dropped it on her head for an explosive reaction strike. Looked like a bowling ball fell on my bait. Big females are in the heart of the tulies. Seem to pick up more males outside edges of tulies and in extreme shallows.
City: AntiochTips: Sweet Beavers seam to be top producers with an occasional reaction strike from chatterbaits and rip baits.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: The bass are hitting good on just about anything you use, sinkos, gold/w redflakes are good. Brown /w red jigs. I hit them on chartreuse/ white spinner and chatter baits as well. Most where in the 1 to 3 pound size I hit about 30 fish and only 6 in the 5 to 7 lbs size. I knew it was a good day when a guy hit a 7 pounder at the dock while I unloaded my boat. Not many male fish on the beds with the larger ones out to 20 feet. The big females should spawn anytime. Hay have a great day on the lake.
City: FresnoTips: Watch out the boat running down the lake at 70 may turn into your path so keep your eyes open.

Report: Out again after I got off work... so on the water at 9:30 took my daughter to net fish. First fish 3rd cast 3# LM White spinner bait w/white blade next 2 on same. 1 on a jig off a bed, another off a tree in 2 feet of water on a senko .Fishhed till 12:45. Only 5 fish. 9.14 for the 5. The fish are up. I even saw some guys killin the trout at the causway at about 11:00. They caught 3 while I was moving by. Go get'em. Some big fish will be up this week. Catch'em & releas'em.
City: IoneTips: Have a dark jig and a light jig so you can contrast the bottom. If you're bed fishin go where the wind is light, and have good glasses.
The reaction bite is solid right now for all the fish that are staging. I still have not thrown a crank bait but I probably should have, so don't rule it out. Good luck.
