Report: Hit south end at 8 sun was already shining, but calm as could be. NO WIND! Tossed new silver and blue spook for about 10 casts when a four to four and a half pounder killed it. I hesitated for a split second, then set the hook. MY LINE BROKE half way between the lure and the rod :( Tied an old balsa wood top water lure on and had two more blow ups but only one to the boat. About 2 3/4. Texas rigged 6" Yum straight worm in the weeds gave me 3 more fish. All great keepers, the biggest weighing 3 pounds.
      City: Salinas

Tips: Always check your line for nicks and rough spots.

Report: I've went BASS fishing here with my friend this weekend as well as last weekend. Not a single catch. I had one bite last weekend on a Senko, but failed to hook him.

We fished the Island and pretty much anywhere on the lake with cover, reeds, weeds, or docks.

We used Senkos (weighted and unweighted), spinners, rat'ltraps, x-raps, jigs, frogs, poppers.

Sad couple weekends on the lake.

Report: We spent the weekend up at Clear Lake and once again had an awesome weekend of fishing. This place is hands down the best bass fishery around.

We stayed at the state park and never fished more than a couple of miles away from the launch ramp. We got there Friday and after setting up camp and a long nap we hit the water around 3:00 PM. Wes forgot to put the drinks in the ice chest so him and Rashelle went back to camp after launching the boat. I stuck two bass on a frog within 20 feet of the launch ramp in the 10 minutes him and Rashelle were gone. They got back and we fished our way out of Kelsey Creek. Before we even fired up the big motor we put 4 more fish in the boat. Then we ran to a spot around the corner in Soda Bay and proceeded to catch a bunch more. Totals for the 1st day were 13 bass for me, 6 for Rashelle, and 2 for Wes. Rashelle also caught a duck...LOL. the duck put up the best fight of the whole trip. All this...and we only fished for about 3 1/2 hours the first day.

The 2nd day was even better...for me anyways. We went out around 2:00 PM and fished until about 7:00 PM. Rashelle only fished for about 30 minutes total and didnt catch anything. I caught 22 fish for the day...All the fish I caught were on dropshotted MMII Roboworms and came off of docks in Soda bay. The fish were sitting anywhere there was shade. We got back to camp and Hayley bragged that she had caught 8 bluegill. Everyone was catching fish.

On to the third day...We fished the morning bite first. I caught 13 in the first 3 hours of the day and Rashelle caught 8. We started off hitting docks and picked up a few then we noticed a bunch of fish blowing up on shad in a small cove next to a tiny little island. I started throwing a Lucky Craft Sammy and picked up 8 fish in a short period of time. Rashelle threw a Trixie shark and caught her very 1st topwater fish. Rashelle and I also had a double off of one of the docks we'd been catching fish on all weekend (see pic below). Rashelle's holding both fish because we were the only ones in the boat. Hers is the bigger one.

We headed back to the launch ramp after having breakfast at a small resort. We hung out at camp and went back out for the evening bite. Rashelle forgot her fishing license at camp but decided to risk it and fish anyways (with a little coaxing from me) because we hadnt seen DFG all day and we've never been checked at Clear Lake...Big mistake. We were on a hot bite when we look over to see 2 DFG wardens pulling up to check and make sure we had out licenses. Rashelle got a ticket for not having her license in her possesion. We finished the last day off with a bang...catching a bunch of 3-4 pound fish off of the docks using brushhogs and Kreatures. Wes hooked a nice 3.5 pounder and was bragging about it. I stuck a 4 for the 2nd double of the trip. Rashelle outfished us for the 2nd half of the day, catching 10. I caught 9 and Wes caught 8.
      City: Newark, CA

Tips: Pretty much everything we threw worked. Junebug seemed to work the best for the plastics (kreatures, Roboworms, and brushhogs)

Report: Launched out of Konocti Vista Resort around 6:00 A. M. and headed south for a few miles till I found tules and trees along the shore line. Immeadiatly got on a Senko bite at edge of tules and tree trunks. Boated 9-10 fish in about 2 hours, then the bite shut off. Got one close to four pounds and one close to 3 pounds, the rest going about 1.5 pounds. One 2 pounder and one 3 pounder came unbuttoned. Man do those babies come flying out of the water, shaking their bodies and thrashing the water !! Guess that is the only thing they can do in 2 foot of water. Best 5 around 12 pounds which is very good for me. Tried swim bait for the toads, no takers. Had a slurp at a frog.

Tips: When throwing the Senko, do a hard side arm cast to skip the Senko against tree trunks and into tule pockets. There in there !!!

      Water Temp: mid 70's

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fished today with two friends, Larry Hemphill and Rick Tietz. We started behind Venice fishing the incoming tide. Caught lots of small fish on the Chatterbait but couldn't get a top water or jig bite. Followed the tide down to the bottom of Latham where we got a few small keepers. Several fish came on worms but the marginally better fish came on the weed edges with the chatterbait.

Ran down to Bullfrog. Same story...nothing but small fish. Probably had a limit under 10 pounds by then.

At 11:00, we changed tactics, targeting hyacinth. Rick used a jig, Larry a worm and I used a pegged Senko. We all caught fish by pitching our bait 10-12 feet up into the hyacinth and shaking them down into the water beneath. I didn't keep track of how many fish we caught but it sure was fun jerking fish up through that stuff. Unfortunately, the fish only averaged 1 to 2 pounds.

We never did find a bigger fish bite. The tide wasn't very big and went slack for the last two hours of our fishing. Our best 5 only went 10 pounds or so.
      City: Fair Oaks

Tips: If you want to have some fun, put on a veavy bullet sinker, peg it tight to the bait and drop it into the thickest hyacinth you can find next to deeper water. Make sure you're using stout line! You might not get a big fish, but its fun to fish this way.

      Water Temp: 74.3

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Fished from 02:00 until 06:00 in my float tube.
Fishing wasn't as good as it has been the last few weeks. I think the bite is better with the moon. Caught and released 8. All were 4 to 6 pounds and from the bank to about 5' of water.
Wes's 9" and 11" Killer Worms did the trick. Last week they only wanted the 6" worms and small beavers. Everything was brass n glass and fished fast. 3/8 or 1/2 oz and just bang them around parallel to the bank. The fish just clobbered the worms. No surface activity until almost 05:30. The bats showed up around then too.
Nice time to fish and no other boats around.
      City: Santa Rosa

Tips: The fish are agressive but spotty. When you get one, stay awhile and fish out the area. Faster is sometimes better with bigger baits.

      Water Temp: 72-74

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Finally got to try Andersen and on the water midweek! Had a newbie on the boat. Put him on a drop shot rig and he landed his first 3 bass - 2 being keepers (but nothing to brag about). I picked up three as well with best only 2 pounds. Feeling not too bad for 2 hours work and first time on the lake.
      City: Los Gatos

Tips: Still sumer small males on the bite, but drop shot in multiple colors on points and walls in 15-20' worked fine.

NOTE: Did get pulled over by Ranger. Asked for licenses and measured the one fish my newbie friend kept.

Report: Kuddos to Guide Randy Pringle. Recently had trip with him and he helped me understand Delta far better. Took his advice and been catching lots more fish. Know him for many years so I also call him friend.

Today was oustanding. Only had five hours (0800-1300hrs) to fish. Fished middle Delta and slayed them. First three hours was top water. Fished slow and near shade That ended with two over 7lbs and two over 5lbs, plus a bunch of 2-3lbs.
When that died at 1100, went to flipping same water and caughta bunch more 2-3lbs.

In all ended with about 27lbs for best five fish. Justa great day

Tips: Dont just "Chuck and wind" think about whats going on down there.

Report: A buddy of mine and his brother just returned from Clear Lake yesterday after two days on the lake. He reported that they had two great days of fishing with their best five going 20-21 lbs. both days. The fish caught were up to 5.5 lbs. According to him the Rat-L-Trap bite is coming on as they did well on shad and craw colored Rat-L-Traps. Also caught good numbers of fish on worms and buzz baits.
Note to KC: Pal, if you don't like Larry's report - skip it. Just because he's a guide doesn't mean he can't fish and post a report. I enjoy Larry's report and rely on them when I'm going to Clear Lake. Keep giving us those good reports Larry.
      City: Redding

Tips: Try Ral-L-Traps or Lucky Crafy LV's in various colors.

      Water Temp: mid 70's

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Went fishing on the Delta today with my good friend, Larry Hemphill. We started in Whites. I threw a brown jig with a Yamamoto twing tail grub in watermelon with red/black flake. Larry threw one of the new Blade Runner buzzbaits with the planing head. It was red/black. Within the first half hour I caught a 2 pounder and Larry stuck a nice 7 pound topwater fish. We were fishing next to weed flats on the ends of tule islands.

Our next stop was still in Whites. It produced another small keeper on the jig and a few small fish. Larry switched to a spinnerbait and caught a solid 3 1/2+ next to a pump pipe. We had a limit around 14 pounds when we left.

The tide was moving pretty good near Mildred so we worked weed edges with reactionbaits. We caught a lot of fish, the best two going 5# 0oz and 4# 14oz. All my fish came on a Chatterbait. Larry got his on a frog.

Our best five went 22 pounds 1 ounce.
      City: Fair Oaks

Tips: All our quality fish came on reaction baits. Jigs and worms only produced small fish. Better fish were all close to current.

      Water Temp: 79

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: There is a frog bite up there at Sonoma. It's not a red hot bite, but you can get frog fish if you work at it. Caught some nice ones today with Joe Leonard. We had 17 pounds for 5 fish. Could have gone over 25 lbs, but a couple of real good ones came unbuttoned. That's frog fishing as they say. Had a lot of fish(not little fish)just blow up on it and no take. Followed up on those fish with flip baits and nothing(but that doesn't mean don't follow up on a blow up). Frustrating, but we did get some nice ones that ate it. Put some fish in the livewell for awhile and found regurgitated large crawdads(green pumpkin-orange and red) on the bottom of the livewell. All fish still had a good set of teeth on them so I don't know if they are still heavily keying in on the shad. Probably.
      City: Petaluma

Tips: Hopefully it will warm up(hot) and improve the frog bite and make them commit fully. If I go tomorrow or the next day I just go with a dark colored frog( Rojas black-yellow) and a 1oz flip bait(sweet beaver-sprayed grass or boom boom tube) and frog and flip all day in shallow water grass mats. You'll be surprised at what's hiding under there in 1 to 5 feet of water. Surprised the hell out of us. Have faith. Another important tip that worked for us is to cast your frog onto the bank and slowly bring it out(I'm not kidding) and hang on. Good luck. D.B.COOPER
