Report: Deer season did not last long, less than an hour from 6a to 645a but did harvest a decent buck south of Bridgeport, 3x3 but it weighed about 200lbs.Now I can get back to fishin until elk and duck start. Still fishin the Calaveras and consistently catching fish. No more fish over 4lbs, but managing many 2lbers,some dinks, and very small stripers. Cant wait to get back on the boat for some fall fishin these comin weekends. Glad the rain came last night.
City: stocktonTips: Really only can fish the high tide because the water gets too low and the river gets dry in most places. Senko, spinnerbait, senko, and senko.

Report: i fished @ about 8:00am to 10:am and caught several nice bass. i use a float tube and kick over to the cove opposite the boat launch. it was kind of windy and i dropp-shotted a purple roboworm with an eighteen inch leader. i worked my way up the shore away from the dam
Tips: tie your drop shot hook on with a palomar knot leaving 18 inches under the hook. put the loose end back through the front of the eyelet of the hook so the hook stands up strait. use drop shot weights that can clinch on the end of the line. hook a purple or blue robo worm right through the nose and keep your rod tip up and lots of action. if you dont float use a melon yamasenko with no weights or accoutrements and retrienve it slowly.

Report: Well I just moved to Antioch about a mile or so from the lake. I floated it Wednesday morning. I had visions of swimbait fish but there were no takers. Went back to the car and got out the dropshot and caught 15 or so fish pretty much everywhere I went. No big ones best maybe a 1.5 or so. Threw a spook for a while with no takers. Fished from 7-11, the water was really nice. Any and all info would be appreciated. I plan on bringing my boat up to the house so I will pound this lake. I am always looking for hitchhikers so drop me a line if you wanna go.

Report: Fished with clients the last couple of days and the results were a little disapointing. Mon the lady caught 2 smallies in excess of 3 lbs about 20 min apart on darterhead on a south facing main lake point at 11 AM and except for a couple of other keepers and a slew of dinks, that was about it. Yesterday, the bite was a little better (the dinks were more numerous) but it was still hard to come by the better fish. I fish very little when I have paying customers in the boat, except to try something different to try to establish a pattern. The fishing was so slow in the North end we went South to see if it was any better. We found a concentration of keepers and dinks along Haywood Flat in 10-20' of water so I picked up my old standby, a ProGold red flake worm and tossed it out in 30' and bang, a 4+ smallie. Fished deep for the next couple of hours and nada. About 5 PM we were working a shaded wall where I have done well on LM and the clients were catching a few dinks but nothing of size. We were planning to fish until dark so I tied on some topwaters for later on, the wind was drifting us nicely along the bank and I didn't have to be on the trolling motor every second. I tied on a Pop-R and noticed that there was a loop deep in the spool. I saw a good looking stump ahead so I cast to it and as I was clearing the loop, toilet flush, 5 lb LM. As soon as I got the fish in the boat I handed out Pop-R rods and they fished shady stumps for the next hour or so. Nada. One fish does not a pattern make. Fished topwaters and cranks late into the evening with little success. I really felt bad that my clients didn't catch those hogs, but they'll be back next Sun to try again. Hope it improves.

Weather is starting to change and on some days it is pretty windy. The trick is to find a sheltered area (not always easy) to fish in. Many times I've gone out where it is white caps on the main lake and found a sheltered area where the water was like glass. It is normally on the opposite side of the mountain from the direction of the wind. This week I would like to talk about sqaw fish also known as sacramento pike. Apparently they are increasing in numbers rapidly and they cause havoc to the survival of all other species of fish in the lake. I have been told by Fish & Game that if I catch one it should be destroyed and thrown on the shore for the birds to eat. With the cooling water the bass bite is increasing and the trout are coming closer to the surface. With summer winding down and less boat traffic the fishing should improve week by week. If you have any questions or stories to share regarding fishing, call me at 650-583-3333. 'til next week................................... www.fishingconnection.net
San Pablo Reservoir - September 26, 2005
GENERAL CONDITIONS:
Midweek discounts are still in effect. We're heading into the stretch run for '05 so you'll want to make full use of these last few months until coming back for the '06 season. Remember, San Pablo 's last day will be Oct. 31st this season, two weeks earlier than usual.
SURFACE WATER : 72 to 74 degrees.
TROUT - BAIT FISHING: TROUT PLANTS TO CONTINUE THROUGH SUMMER! The Main Rec Area seems to be the popular spot for early trout anglers. White Power Eggs or night crawlers and marshmallows have proven the early favorites. The water levels won't change the rest of year so you won't need to worry about that upsetting the fish.
TROUT - TROLLING: TROUT PLANTS TO CONTINUE THROUGH SUMMER! This is the area where we've seen the biggest increase in trout activity. Trolling near the Pines or Scow Canyon seems to work exceptionally well. The trout aren't quite to the surface, even in the mornings, so you'll want to start in the 5 to 15 foot range. As for lures, Rapalas and Needlefish are the two best options at San Pablo. Look for something in a shad pattern.
BASS:
Even the bass fishing has cooled off. Anglers fishing near the rental docks from the shore have caught a few fish upwards of five pounds already this season and continued to do so last week. The Main Rec. Area, for most species, can't be beat. The bass are responding to crankbaits, especially earlier in the morning.
CATFISH:
Catfish angling has slowed some but not enough to quit fishing for them. Stick with night crawlers or chicken liver on a set-up with two hooks. The Tower or Main Rec. Area seem to be the prime spots to hit.
WHOPPERS:
9/12 - Pierre Barrier of El Sobrante caught a 2 lb. 7 oz. blue gill near the Oaks on a Rapala Deep Diver.
9/13 - Paul Madison of San Leandro caught a 13 lb. catfish near Round Top on chicken liver.
9/15 - Vladmir, all the way from the Ukraine, took an 11 lb. catfish on a worm at the Main Rec. Area.
9/18 - Armando Rodriguez of San Francisco took two cats, one 11 lb. 9.6 oz. and one of undisclosed size, from the Main Rec. Area on chicken liver.
9/21 - John Doody caught a 10.6 lb. bass from the Main Rec. Area using chicken liver.
9/24 - Jerry Yoshida of Richmond caught a 5.8 lb. trout from the pines while trolling a Rapala.

Sid:
We had great Crappie and Bass fishing Saturday, 15+ catch & Release. Jen caught one we could not ID, long, thin silverfish, not Trout or Salmon, a mystery?
that is the squa fish that is this weeks article sid thanks nfor your question
This past Friday at Lake Berryessa the weather had cooled considerably and the surface water was 75 degrees. There were strong winds coming from the North which made fishing difficult. The group I took out was very enthusiastic but the weather played a large part in the lack of our success. Of the eight orthopedic doctors (seven male and one female) of course Susan got the largest fish. Everyone enjoyed the day. That evening was a different story, the winds calmed down and the fish went on the bite. You can see the transition of the season occurring. Saturday was a fair day. Sunday I went out on the "HuckFinn" for halibut. The largest halibut for the day was 36.1 lbs. Everyone walked off with fish, Captain Jay really knows the waters. He and his deckhand David did a great job. I would recommend his boat to anyone who likes to fish salt water. 'til next week...................good fishing!!!!! www.fishingconnection.net

Labor Day has come and gone and the weather is starting to cool off. The morning and evening bite is still the best, but we did well during the day on Monday fishing around big island. As the boat activity quiets down from the summer the bite should pick up drastically. We fished some rocky areas that the visibility was about 12 feet and landed bass on suspended baits, worms and other plastics and were able to see hundreds of baby bass from 2" to 8" swimming in the water. We were looking for the bigger guys. Catfishing was great. As the water clears, I recommend trolling a lure behind the boat that goes down about 6' to 8' anywhere from fifty feet to hundred feet behind the boat and you will catch fish. My kids caught limits trolling in from big island to Steel Park using the same system. 'til next week.......................good fihsing!!!!!

Report: I guided a good fisherman Friday in his 520 Ranger boat and what a kick - I point and say "go here - go there"!! What a hoot! We had a great time and the fishing quality-wise was good as we had a 20 lb 2 oz limit, but only 22 bass. The numbers bite seems to be slowing some as the tournament pressure picks up steam. Our three biggest were 4-2, 4-8, and 5-1. Since I show folks around the lake and we look at the meter a lot, we are not fishing all the time. The great news is that the jig bite is coming on! I was using a brown/orange Rattlin' Weapon jig (1/4 and 3/8 oz) with my favorite Yamamoto #180 single tail grub. My client suddenly found his jigs to be more effective when he "stole" my 180's, har! Not a bass to be had on a crankbait for the first time. Kreature baits were working as always, as were 10" Power worms. North wind blew all day, limiting some of the areas I wanted to take him - but it worked out fine.
City: Yuba CityTips: I think anglers are going to have to move around a bit more to find concentrations of bass. The popular spots are just pounded during tournament season. If you know a favorite "nook and cranny" - try it! The bass just might be there - trying to escape the underwater "latest lure fashion show"!!! If you are fishing a small bait, make sure it has some movement - like in drop-shotting - so the bass know it's there.

Report: Fished Cappell Cove between the launch and the pump from 6:30 to 10:00 am. Catfish were biting liver doughbait. Slow action for bass or crappie using pink grubs and Kastmasters. Moved over to Markeley Cove at 10:30 and hooked a small crappie on a Kastmaster. I had a beaver swimming around me for about an hour which probably ruined my chances.
City: VacavilleTips: Fish at first light with minnows, jigs and spinners in cover. In the morning, crappie were jumping in schools in the coves that have some underwater vegetaion.
