Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fished the Stockton Bass Tourney out o Ladds. Once again John and I had a good numbers day, but couldn't ind the quality ish. We were on a good bite in Whites irst thing and were sure that a big one would hit, but it just didn't happen. Ended up with 9 keepers on the day or 11 pounds. Nothing over 2. We ished mats, weeds, rip-rap and tules with just about everything working. Dark plastics worked best. Winners had 29 pounds and claimed to get all their ish on blades.
City: RosevilleTips: Talked to some people that had good ish on rogs, but overall the rog bite was slow and most were unable to ill a limit ishing that way all day. Right now there are plenty o ish to be caught, you just have to be the one's who can igure out how to put quality ish in the boat. I may have to take a week o rom the delta, as I think I got kidney damage rom the run back to Ladds on Saturday. It was insane ater 11 o'clock.

Water Temp: 76-80

Report: I ished the Delta rom 8-5 - 8-9 with my cousin. Overall it was a good trip. Most o our ish came on top-water. I nailed a 7 1/2 and a 5.13 on top-water. Not too many rats on this trip. avg. ish was 2-3lbs. on top-water. We also got into a pretty good crankbait bite along rip-rap w/ no submerged weed-beds. We only got one buzzbait ish ishing submerged weed-beds. Had a ew on blades burning them across the weed-beds. Thursday we inally ound some cheese that looked pretty good. It was a decent size area o cheese and we actually just circled the mats or about 6hrs. We had plenty o blow-ups. We both only brought one each into the boat. We both missed one toad each. My cousin had one that probably went about 7lbs. and it came unbutton right next to the boat. The ish I hooked just kicked my a** and took me into the mats. We didn't lip or pitch any plastics that much since we were on such a good reaction bite everyday. Our best 5 ish limit was a bomb-a** 23lbs.

Report: Launched out o Wimpy's Marina at 8:00am. Never ished the north delta but thought i'd give it a try. Drove down to beaver slough to start and immediatly started getting ish on senkos in submerged weed beds. most were over 12' but got a ew to 15'. Ater that went down to hog slough and got two ish, one on a delta craw speedtrap on a rock wall, and another keeper on a rog over weed mats. When the action got slow we then went down to sycamore slough and ished a little more with rogs. Had a huge blow up, this ish had to be over 8lbs but he missed it. Cant wait to go back to get one o those big rog ish.

Report: Fished 8-7,8,9 this past week. Had my ather and one o my nephews in town or some ishing. Wed. evening ished until 8:00 up the pit. Solid action with very ew under 13". Dropshot and texas rig. 3" smoke w/large black lake predator dropshot worm was the ticket. Used all sorts o colors but this seemed to be choice. Texas rig 6" rootbeer/green predator slugo, shakin' and crawlin'. Thur. and Fri. ound ish behind Wood Island. The slugo was the preerred bait with ish over 2#s.
City: reddingTips: 12 to 18" leader on the dropshot. Fish as deep as 90t. Caught suspended ish on the dropshot by reeling up,shake it, reel it up, shake it, etc. There is a deinite color and size preerence. Good luck!

Report: Fished with my son and daughter today. We started by trying or some o the monster catish. Set baits at 07:25 a.m. No luck and we pulled up anchors at )9:30 a.m. Went ater the black crappie and caught over 80 o them by 01:00 p.m. Caught lots o largemouth bass - did not want them, but they were on the bite - they love those small clear tube baits. One bass was over 8 pounds. We had a great day. It was a hot day - no heavy wind. Lots o boats on the lake. We took lots o photos today - digital. I you want to see the ish we can show. Lots and lots o bait ish all over the lake. Lots and lots o great weed cover or those nice big crappie. Don't bother with the bass - too easy. This lake is a blast! Anyone can catch ish here. Saludos, Wes

Amador Lake
-
Water Temp: 80
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Beore I make this report, I saw something that made me sick. Someone had caught a 9.75 lb bass yesterday morning and walked up the hill to have a photo taken and have it weighed. I guess he was going to release it or something but, o couse, it died quickly in the heat. The management said this was not the irst time that this individual has killed a big bass or no reason - he didn't even want to eat it. I saw this dead bass and yes, it did make me sick!! What a waste!!Anyway, I ished with my good riend and ellow Amador expert Rick Tietz. I had not been to Amador on a weekend or some time and did not know that it is now ashionable to ish in the dark o the moon!! Wow - have a ew boats. We ound ishing to be very slow and there was not any surace activity to speak o. Boats were moving all the time beore dark, and not seeing any caught, I elt it might have been slow or others too. Ater using the 10" Power worm with no success, I switched to the Junebug Dead Ringer worm, and caught our irst ish - about 13 inches. We both had lost a good ish beore dark and missed 2 ater dark. Around midnight, ishing a main lake point, I got a eeble tap and set the hook. She was a at 5-10, rom about 15 eet o water. We caught a ew more small ones and then Rick got a 2 1/2 and two about 1 1/2 on worms. At irst light and a little ater, there still wasn't any surace activity, so we ished deep water. Near the mouth o Jackson, I hooked a strong 5-4 on a brown/orange Weapon jig in about 30 eet o water. Rick soon ollows with a 4-2, also in about 30 eet, on an 11" worm. Hunger and sleep called, and we let several boats that had just started, ready to battle the heat!
City: Yuba CityTips: We tried some slick baits plus the traditional ones, but the ish just wern't eating much. Our Lowrance X-15 revealed the thermocline had dropped to about 30 eet, with many o the bass suspended above the bait - not a good sign. Not many ish on the bottom eeding. The jig seems to be working better in the daylight now, and the worm better at night. A lot o the weeds have disappeared, and thus, the rog bite is about over - at least or the time being.

Chabot Lake

Water Temp: N/A
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: The reason nobody is ishing Chabot is simple. Check out Anglers edge on line and look at the planting reports. You will see that the ish are being planted 10 times as much at Quarry lakes compared to Chabot. As you might recall some months back Biologists were shocking the bass out o chabot to (establish a bass population at Quarry lakes)Total BS They needed bass at quarry because it was ished out in 2 months by meat ishermen not anglers. No ishy no isherman plain and simple. Want ish go to quarry leave Chabot to the shockers they can ind the ish. Any questions about this problem please eel ree to e-mail me. I have ished Chabot since I was 6 about 34 years ago. It is slowly being killed o by unethical acts by our parks department. Problem is we cant do shit about it but we are trying. I you care about the health o the bass population e-mail me or more ino

Water Temp: ?
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: On a warming trend, Kris and I went or the aternoon/evening action. I talked to two guys who caught 30 during the day, but one o them said his biggest wasnt even 12"! We ished rom 5:30-8:30 w/only a coupla dinks to show or our eorts. No rog blowups or other topwater action to speak o. I saw more otters in my areas, one was eating a ish! I dont believe the otters will eat all the bass, but now two o my very best go-to areas have otters in them. A long about 8:30 Kris breaks the ice w/a 5.o on a worm. He then gets a 4.9 about 30 minutes later. I cant seem to get touched. Ater dead dark, the bugs were all over me. I elt like I had 100 on each leg....they didnt bite, but it elt like my skin was crawling. No action or 1 hr ater dark. North o konocti, kris misses one and I am eeling rustrated. I pick up a crank and ling it a ew times. It eels good as I am bumping into rocks constantly. I stop the lure and it keeps bumping......??? caught my irst crankbait ish ater dark, ever, 3.5 lbs! Then Kris sticks another 5.2 and I get bit on a worm w/ another 3 lb ish. North o the narrows, gave me another 3 lb ish and I dumped another by the boat on a jig. Back to our dusk area and I get a 5.2 on a worm then Kris bangs a 2 and a 3 where I had already ished! Further south by redbud, one more spot gave me a 3.7 on a 7" worm. I believe that or whatever reason, the ish bit best ater 11pm. My best 5 went 18 lbs and Kris' best 5 went 20 lbs.
City: Yuba CityTips: Dont just hit the easy spots, several ish came rom "inside" areas that required some perservierence.

Water Temp: ???
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Yeh, that would be why his name sounded amiliar. Just shoot me an e-mail or somethin' when you wanna get out there. Well, what a dierence two days can make!! Went ishin' today. In the loat tube or about 4 rom 2:00 - 6:00. Immediately headed back to the rocks like usual. The whole way back there I kept thinkin'...what a day or drop-shottin'!! The water was like GLASS!! O course, it was about 100 degrees outside, but the calm water would sure make drop-shottin' easier. Anywho, I worked the east side rocks with the drop-shot all the way back to the dam. Only two stinkin' ish!! And they were both about 10"!! Where'd my ish go?! LoL. Got to the dam, and started messin' around throwin' a berkley squirmers lizard on a 3/8oz ootball head. Threw it or about 10 minutes, and I actually did lose one good ish with it. Threw a crankbait or about 10 mintutes and didn't get anything. So then I went back to the drop-shot and threw that or quite a while and only picked up 4 more bass. However, still, just a bunch o DINKS. Where'd my bigger ish go? Well, I sat and thought about it, and realized that or the last ew days it's been about 100 degrees and realized there hasn't been much o a wind or the last ew days. Then, I looked at the water, and well, it looked a lot dirtier than usual back by that dam! I could only see about a oot down into the water compared to how I can usually see at least 2-3t. Interesting. It had a greenish color to it. Algea bloom perhaps?? I also noticed that the rocks along the shoreline were covered pretty good with green weeds. A lot more thna usual. Well, here's what i decided to do. In the last 30 minutes or so, I back way o o the rocks and positioned mysel in about 17t o water. Then I highered the hook on my drop-shot rig so that it was a good 2t away rom the weight instead o the 6-8" that I've been doing good with lately. Then, I dropped it straight down underneath o me into 17t o water. Started shaking it, and my rod loaded up. 2.75lber. Not THAT great, but better than I was getting. So I thought, hmmmmm, maybe they;ve moved out deeper with the hotter weather lately. Kept goin' along just droppin' it down anywhere rom 15-20t o water. I picked up one more 2.5lber in 16t o water also with the drop-shot beore i had to go. I think they did move o to deeper water with how the weather has been lately. I think the next time I go out I'm going to go see i the rock pile I know o in deeper water is producing.

Most o the ish and the better ones came on speed traps in craw colors, some came shaken a 4" green weenie in 5-15'and in the aternoon we got on Persuader Buzz baits in really strong current my 101lb Minn Kota on 70% and hardly moving un day!

Report: Went looking or some rog ish or the evening. Weather was perect with air temp near 100 and dead calm. Flipped a keeper in Franks and rogged some mat with no luck. Ran looking or mat in a ew areas that had good mat. VERY little or none let. Weed beds even seem to be receeding in some areas. Picked up one about 3# on a rog rom a weed line. Hit a mat down south that had been holding some good ish. 3 blowups with no takers. Flipped one more about 2.5 on the way in. Water is warming ast.

Water Temp: 74
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: I can tell you that the post-cold ront reports arn't nearly as un as the pre-cold ront ones. Since my good trip on Friday night, there were several cold nights, lots o wind, and the water temp dropped 4 to 5 degrees. I picked up a client at Konocti Resort at 5:30 PM Tuesday evening and we tried rog ishing or quite awhile since he wanted to get his irst-ever rog blowup. We really tried hard or about 2 hours, mixing it up with Senkos and black buzzbaits. It was like a dierent lake - windy, and MUCH cooler. The best we could do was a small blowup on my green Snagproo rog. I know it was going to be tough ater all the cool weather but we had to try. Beore dark I started to throw a Weapon jig and caught 2 at 12 inchers and we both missed a ew more. Boy, they are really at!! Just beore dark I threw the jig under a dock and managed a 3 3/4 lb bass that hit it pretty good in about 5 eet o water. Ater dark it really was dead, but we did see the cold ront gradually leave since the wind died down about 11 PM. Wed. was orcast to be the beginning o a warming trend. Ater we caught a ew more 11 to 13 inch bass, my client inally sent into a good bass. I love it when they come up to the surace and boil. They sound so big when the water is calm!!!! The 10 inch black/chartreuse Power worm ooled another good bass - now, i he could just get it in the boat! Another strong ighter came to the net - inally - and weighed in at 6 lbs 7 oz. He truly was excited - his biggest bass ever. He probably doesn't know it, but I was more excited than he was - that ish was a long time in coming!!!! About 3 minutes ater we started ishing again, I elt a slight pressure on my jig and set just in case. Glad I did - she weighed 4-11. And that was it - maybe 16 or so pounds or our 5 best. Sometimes as a guide it is hard to decide which type o trip is more satisying - a lot o good ish in one trip, or the lone big bass that saves the day (or night!). I was just so happy that he caught it - made or a great drive home!
City: Yuba CityTips: Many o you know that I have the theory that when ishing Clear Lake at night - as the carp go - so go the bass. When the carp begin to be active - maybe around midnight - the bass ishing usually picks up. Well, I remarked just beore he caught the big ish (11:55 PM) that the carp had suddenly started rolling around. We caught those two nice ish during that period (about 10 minutes) and then the carp disappeared. We caught no more bass at that spot. You decide!! While the worm bite is good at night, the jig bite has been good also. The two bigger ish were caught rom 10 to 20 eet deep.

Water Temp: 76-79
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Had an old bowling buddy come in rom Salinas so we had to show o Shasta to him. In at Jones Valley at 5:15PM. Ran up to Susanville Canyon and started rom there. My riend is a crankbaiter so down the bank we came. Ater I had boated a couple o dinks he inally got bit on his little crankbait. He stuck with it and ended up with 4 crankin.I ended up with about 7 or 8 to 1.5 on a variety o MGM 4" worms. As the sun set I switched to top water and things started happening. About every other cast I had either a blow-up or a ish. Boated 4 or 5 more and then Kevin wanted to know i I had another one o those top water things, so I handed him one and said, have un! He got bit right away. Just beore dark we moved out to Jones Valley Point and boated 4 more on top. These were better ish, 1.8 to 2.2, nice at spots. We were out o the water by 10:00PM and my riend said he had a great time.

Soulajule Lake
-
Water Temp: Unknown
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: My irst time ishing Soolahooly, and my irst time reporting on this thing! So, hello all you readers (Not sure i there are many readers or Soulajule, but hello anyways). Started ishing at around 6pm...not much time beore sundown, so I didn't hike too ar...just to the barbwire ence around the bend, past the lonely lakeside tree. No bites whatsoever at all or ortyive minutes. Threw a Terminator Spinnerbait (Colorado & Willowlea combo, white and chartruese skirt), then a Texas rigged 7" Pumpkinseed Powerworm, then a split shot 4" Pumpkinseed Powerworm (in case there were smaller ish around, then a black-n-blue Strike King jig rigged with a Powercraw bakc by the tree where it's kind o a cli and really rocky. No luck, so I decided to try by the dam, and caught a 12 incher with the Terminator, but that was it...tried the worms and the jigs again to no avail. Then I went surace with a black and silver Rebel Pop-R. On my third cast, wham! A our pound suprise! Yahoooo! Good long ight on a long cast with light tackle (medium light spinning with 6 pound line so I can cast the Pop-R ar!). A ew casts later, another puny one about twice the size o the lure, and then another ew casts and, slam, a two pounder, also put up a good ight. All this happened within iteen minutes, 6:45 to 7:00pm. Missed two other boils during that time as well. Then, no bites ater 7pm...hmmm. I called it the night at around 7:30 because I didn't want to break the sundset closure rule. So this is a pretty cool lake i you don't mind the unwelcoming gate which conused me at irst...drove by it because i igured it to be provate property (just push the button). Also, the cattle on the dirt road that don't move away too quick even or a our wheel truck, and the short hike to the water's edge rom the "parking lot"...the prize? It's very secluded, peaceul, and you might have the whole lake to yoursel, like me this evening. No boaters allowed, but I don't have one anyways...great or shorebound anglers cause there won't be any boaters taking your water!
City: Rohnert ParkTips: Well, the late summer season means the surace lures are still great or evening in the shallows, like today...I'm sure the same goes or the morning. I'm sure that'll continue until the water temp lowers in the all. I heard jigs work well here, but there is so much algae growth on the bottom now, that you'll end up draggin' in a chunk o green.

Report: Fished the Western Bass Tourn. on Saturday, 8-3-02 . The one thing that has been driven home to me this year is listen to the weather and boy did it change. I was hoping or a top water bite since in the aternoon I had been doing well in whites ,and Potato. Due to the weather I did not even pick up the top water until ater 12:00 . Cranked a wall in potato that never ails to give a keeper or two, dinks- three in a row. Time to move or bigger ish. We went to my never ail by 7:30 which is plastics. I ished the rest o the tourn. with a craw colored zipper worm and my buddy a 6" senko. We waded through a parade o dinks or 7 ish at 14.4 lbs.
City: sacramentoTips: While I did not ish topwater another boat had 7 or 15 lbs on nothing but topwater, I guess go to your conidence bait and ish areas that in the past have held good ish or you.
