Report: I waited or the tournament boys to blast o, get to their #1 spot and then went ishing. I started on an Island top by Folsom Point, shaking a 6" Green Craw Cali. worm in 25' and caught one ater another, all 2 lb.+. Then I went to an Island south o Beals, threw a Yamamoto grub over some boulders in 20' and caught an 8lb. 4oz. largemouth. Moved in closer to the bank, useing a 3/4 oz. Morning Dawn Duh spinnerbait and caught several spots rom 2-1/2 to 4 lbs.. Then I backed o and started shaking a worm in 20'+ around deeper trees and caught lots o 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 lb smallies and spots. Found a ew largemouth in the trees, but nothing over 2 lbs.I came in to watch the weigh-in, I assume it was a 7 ish limit? My best 5 ish went 18-1/2 lbs. It took 18.01 to win.I don't know how the tournament went on Sunday but I'm sure glad I didn't have to ish in that storm.
City: SacramentoTips: A lot o ish have let the bank and are stacked up around 20-30 t. on deeper trees and structure. Shake darker worms and drop shot shad colored baits.

McClure Lake

Water Temp: 63-68
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Fished McClure this week. Went way up into Piney Creek. We caught a ew small spotted bass on crankbaits and grubs. We lost a huge bass on topwater, the bass slammed it and took it straight to the bottom, snapped the line and we never saw it again. A 10lb. black bass was caught on sunday across rom Barrett's Cove.
City: MercedTips: Try salt & pepper YAMAMOTO super grubs, Senkos, Speedtraps and Topwater Pop-R's. Good Luck. Stop by and visit STEVE'S BAIT SHACK @ 137 W. Main st. in Merced or call (209)722-0800. Thanks, Steve.

Berryessa Lake
-
Water Temp: 64
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: We started at around 9am. Fished the coves just east of Markley Cove. Ryan started off with a spinnerbait, and got no action. As soon as he switched to a blue & chrome rattle-trap he couldn't stop the fish from coming in. It was a frenzy. About 5 fish within 30 minutes. Nothing huge...in the 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 lb range. I sight fished the rocks just about 4 ft. below the surface with a minnow swimbait. The fish seemed a bit finicky. I had to literally hit them right on the head for them to take the lure. I beleive I caught the same fish twice....little bugger. Nothing beats fishing for largemouth.
City: DixonTips: Cranks and swimbaits are what seemed to work for us that day. Nothing else did. Be very careful...Mother Nature is beautiful, but she could be a bit nasty. If fishing from the banks, keep an eye out for Poison Oak. The banks are saturated with it. Remember, "If it has leaves of three, than let it be".

Report: My buddy and I Got to the lake after noon on saturday found fish on the rocks and around docks. Used flukes, Senkos and crappie jigs. By the time the rain hit @ 7 am sunday, we had caught and released about 24 bass, 15 or so crappie, 9 trout and a hand full of nice catfish and bluegill. Excellent fishing.
City: AlbanyTips: Wait for the warm weather and buy some polarized lenses, you'll find them.

Water Temp: 66
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: This is just a short report to let the readers know that the rain forcast for Monday decided to show up Sunday about 10 minutes after we started to fish (7 AM). It poured the whole time (I believe they are called showers!!). Luckly the clients needed to leave about noon or we might have drown! Since the 11 year old son didn't have a rain suit and dad and I only had part of one, we just fished the Markley Cove area and a little to the north. The young man missed several bites but did manage to catch his first bass - a 14 inch spot - on a morning dawn Magic worm. Dad and I were using Berkley 4" Pulse Worms and caught 7 between us. Dad got a nice 1 1/2 lb smallie and a spawned-out 15 1/2 inch spot, plus 2 others. I did catch a nice 2 pound spot plus 2 others also. All in all, a pretty nice short trip considering the air temp had dropped about 20 degrees in 36 hours.
City: Yuba CityTips: I tried topwater and ripping a little, but no takers. We found most of our bass near the deepest part of submerged brush.

Water Temp: N/A
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: John Walton o Waltons Pond and I have set up a sign up sheet at his shop to collect names and numbers o all you ishermen concerned about the shocking o bass at Chabot to be put in Quarry lakes. We need as many signitures as we can get. The parks dept said they would get back to us on the matter. I they dont in a month rom now John and I are going to call everyone on the list along with channel 2,4,5,7 news and then we might create some action. Those o you who cant make it in to Waltons Pond can call him at 510-352-3932 and he will write your name and number down on the sheet or you Thank you. Together we can unite to do what ever it takes to stop the illegall transportation o lake chabot bass to be eaten by Quarry lake isherman.
City: Castro ValleyTips: Please do not promote Quarry lakes. they are a catch and kill complex. Everything is too expensive. Lake Chabots uture consessions and boat rentals are at risk. Do we want to loose those activities at chabot??? Keep promoting the Quarry lakes and Chabot will be shut down because o lack o public unds

Gotta go....Fish On!

Los Banos Lake
-
Water Temp: 69
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Buddy and I decided to ish Los Banos or the irst time and we got the boat in the water around noon. Within a hal hour we caught on largemouth around 3 1/2# on a 10 inch power worm. Fished or about another hour or two without a bite. The wind started blowing hard and there were gusts atleast in the 40 mph range. We kept ishing and caught another bass around 2 1/2# on a Dances's eel.We motored back around the launch area and caught one about 2# on a pop-r. The wind made it real diicult to ish the lake especially in a 15 aluminum boat.
City: ModestoTips: I've heard the lake is generally tough and I would assume the reason is because the lake is ull o every type o cover imaginable.I would concentrate on ishing the hydrilla around ten eet deep with plastics, spider jigs or large gitzits or larger ish. Fish the tule walls with sencos or limit ish. Topwater ishing looks real promising but not today. Get there early especially on a weekend!!!

New Melones Lake

Water Temp: NA
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Did pretty well considering how hot it was today! Went to our avorite cove (ished o the bank) and hooked up a nice one on irst cast. Caught about 8 all together, most caught in the morning. Using Pumpkinseed (with green lake) Senko's seemed to be the ticket. Caught bass in submerged timber and o steep rocky slopes. Biggest ishes caught were 3.6lbs and 2.7lbs. Not many big ones, but there was some nice action.
City: San JoseTips: Watch that line, most hits where on the all.

Oroville Lake

Water Temp: 67
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Strapped it on or another ABA event on this lake and I'll never orget this one. I'm the back seater in this series, and it's natural the angler in back manages the live well. My partner trusts me and I trust mysel- more on this in a minute. Mixed up worms with reaction or perhaps reaction with worms in the south and the middle. The morning was prime pre-rontal warm cloudy and calm. The wind picked up steadily as the day went on and then began to howl. The ront arrived about noon and the temperature dropped at least 10 degrees. The bite simply stopped or an hour and a hal and we moved to a wind sheltered wall in the middle ork just to get out o the gale. We almost re-rigged to drop shot, but then the wind stopped and it bagan to rain steady and hard. My partner had two rain suits- the man's a prince and a stick. We put them on and I said got any spoons? Then the bite nearly exploded. Lost count o the ish we caught in the last hour and a hal, and we culled out everything but a 2.96 I'd caught early in the day. I nailed another 2 something and while it was still pouring I'm weighing ish, changing markers, and I'm under the console trying to write on a board that's wet. It was wild. We moved to our last spot on the main lake with 20 minutes to go. First cast my partner nails a good 1.7- culls out our smallest, and then another boat rolls up on the bank a ew hundred yards ahead o us. They're worming and putting a couple in the boat so Steve pickes up his worm stick and gets a solid 2lb with 5 minutes to go. It had to be almost his last cast. We scramble to get it in the well put down our equipment. We go past the check in boat and I check the well- only our ish. Utter disbelie. We weighed in 8.17lbs or 4 ish good enough or tenth and the 2.96 held up or 2nd big ish. Got our entry back, but it was no consolation. Winners had 9.49. Weigh master goes too bad you didn't get another ish. I said don't go there. So why would I get on this page and report this? The ishing was interesting with the rapidly changing conditions, but It's only air I get on this page when I'm successul or not. Got to stand up and be accountable. Give it up to my partner- he actually talked to me on the ride home.

San Justo Lake
-
Water Temp: 64-67
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: It was a good day to be ishing at San Justo. Started ishing at 8:00 and the wind was blowing a little so I started throwing a rattletrap to the tules. Rattletrap didn't work so I switched to a spinnerbait; no luck. Threw a crankbait and not even a look. Then I threw a zipper worm, again no luck. I switched to a carolina rig and worked a rocky point at about 15 eet. I kept coming up with a lot o moss so I switched to a drop shot rig. First cast on the same point I caught a 1 1/2 lbr. An hour later I had caught ive ish o that point. I then moved to the rocky points to the let o the launch ramp. I caught one more ish and then the wind came up again, only much stronger and rom a dierent direction. I stuck with the plan and caught 4 more o o that strech o shorline, the biggest being 2 1/2 lbs. I caught two more o o a weedy point that didn't go over 12 inches. Those two were the only one's that were too short, everything else was easily over a pound and bigger. All o them were caught on 4" worms in 15-25 eet o water. Good Luck.
