    Water Temp: 47-50.8

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Fished on Saturday with James and Rav of Bay Sportsfishing Charters. We had an exceptionally good fish catching day with 23 keepers on Jigs and Zippers. The Jig out performed the Zipper today 5:1, Most of the fish were caught in about 14' of water, in the weedless rocky banks of Disco Bay. Almost all of our jig fish came out in front of the deeper docks. Not every dock had fish, but when ya found a good dock, we'd catch 2-4 fish from it and several missed bites. Zipper fishin in the grass was much slower today in the afternoon. We got many bites, but unfortunately only boated four fish. These bites all seemed to be out on the outer drop of of the weedlines in about 8-10 foot. Biggest fish today was only 3 pounds. Nowhere near the quality of fish seen in the past 2 weeks, but the numbers made for a great jig fishin day.
    City: Oakley

Tips: Must cover a lot of water to find those groups of fish. Once a fish is caught, begin to slow way down and methodically saturate the area picking off as many as will bite. Temp has dropped a few degrees with the recent cold snap. Our bites were definately better in that 49-50.8 range today. Seemed like everytime we'd go through spells of no bites, I'd look down and the temps were, 47 to 48.9 degrees, moving to areas where there was a small increase in temperature made the difference in getting bit today. Never saw the sun, and it was very cold out ALL day. Dress warm guys, be prepared and keep those vests on!

Report: I won't say exactly where we were fishing or what we were using. But my buddy and I only caught 7 fish today. The seven were a 9,8,two 6's, and a few 3's. No small fish. We stayed in one area and the bites came very slow. It was like the small fish were no where to be found. Only good fish. The best January fishing me or my buddy have ever had! I'm still feeling kinda shocked...
    City: Stockton

Tips: Slow presentation, deeper water and dark colors.

    Water Temp: 49

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)

Report: Since I had the day off I decided to hit the delta with the goal of locating some clear water after the storms. Since the tides weren't going to be ideal for winter time fishing (i.e. low tide was at 6:35am out of Sand Mound) I decided to just have some fun and observe what I could. I found that working -2hrs->low tide->+2hrs really is the best time to hit the delta this time of year simply because working the outside weed edges is important to finding fish. Conditions were post storm front after nearly 3/4" of rain that fell the night before and almost clear skys for most of the day. Launched out of Russo's and spent a good 1-2 hours jumping around Frank's Tract and the general vacinity looking for deep water and pockets of clear water. After a while I decided to head towards Taylor slough where the water generally stays gin clear all winter long. I ran into a couple of guys on the water who were throwing a drop shot and doing fairly well, but had the same issue that I had with my rip bait -- only the small fish seemed to be active at the moment. At the end of the day I had about a dozen fish however nothing was larger than 1.5 lbs and all were on a rip bait. This is pretty typical when fishing the high tides because you typically have to let the bait sit in the strike zone for 10-15 seconds on the outside weed edge which is much easier at low tide. In all I had fun being out on the water and also ended up catching some sort of carp like fish in/around Russo's on the rip bait. Seems they were schooling up and busting the surface near the docks. No idea what kind of fish it is (maybe a squaw fish or shad). I would have headed towards the central delta looking for less pressured areas that have some clear water however I was running low on 2-stroke oil and the Hook was closed (closed Mon-Tues). At least the weather was nice and it didn't rain.

    Water Temp: 55+

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Water wasn't in too bad of shape considering the heavy rains and winds for the last few weeks. Temp came up a bit too...Bounced around testing a few different areas and found quite a few willing rip fish, about a dozen, half small keeps the others undersized. Switched to a Blk/red jig looking for a better bite and had some decent success. Found a ledge holding some 2 1/2 to 3 1/2lb fish willing to play, very suble bites. Slow rolled a wht blade over the same area and had two 3+'s that absolutley crushed it. hmmmm. Went back to work w a jig (blk/blue) and got drilled off a log, set hard, huge roll and off to deep water, yeah baby! A solid 12lbs, only this one was wearing a silver striped tuxedo.... best five largies 15 1/2 - 16lbs..

    Water Temp: 47.2

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Fished with Tim Chapman on Sat 12/17 to show him around the delta and how to put together a pattern when the conditions are really tough. We launched from Orwood with 47.2 degree water temp and gin clear water around Orwood marina. We easily put together a pattern fishing a rip bait and then duplicated the pattern across 3-4 other locations. In all we had 20+ largemouth and 5 small stripers fishing ripbaits on the outside weed edge in slack water in areas where the water was gin clear. Most of the bites came between 10-15 sec pauses in typical shad colors. We stopped into Disco Bay on the Kellog Creek side for about 30 min and left as the water was too stained for ripbait fish so we moved on. Best 5 went clost to 15lbs. No bites on the spinnerbait or jigs today although a few fish are starting to focus on craws with the sore red lips. If there's fog in the AM forecast sleep in and hit the water after 9:00am.
    City: Pleasanton, Ca

Tips: Fish slow, find slack water areas, focus on the outside weed edge, have confidence in what you are throwing and dress warm.

Report: Went striper fishing with 2 of my buddies. Launched out of B&W around 7:30am and was fogged in. Started working down river along the riprap. About 200 yrds we came across a depth change 7ft to 14ft and wham! School of 5-7 lbers wanting to eat. Caught most on rattle and speed traps and managed a 4lb steelhead. Caught a few more in Franks but the larger schools were on the rocks.
    City: Fairfield

Tips: presentation seemed to matter...we could only manage bits slow rolling the traps.

    Water Temp: 49-52

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fished the hook tourney last sun & today. Last week we had a solid rip bite going with several fish in the 3 - 5 1/2lb range each day of practice. On game day we had our limit within 35 min and continued catching rip fish all day long everywhere we went, over 30 in all. Unfortunately the better fish just wouldn't cooperate for us. Finished w just under 12 lbs.

Today's game plan was rip for a limit and flip for a kicker. The plan was fool proof...almost, save for my bad luck. I lost a limit worth of fish within the first 20 min or so including one decent 2 1/2 that sure would have helped.. damn loose drag... Finally we started boating fish, much thanx to my partner, and we got a small bag together. Made a move and brought out the jig rods. Worked patiently for a few hours without a bite then we finally got our window (or should have been) with only 20 min left to fish. I got one close to 3, my partner gets a 4.. both mushy bites.. Then comes a solid deliberate thump, and off to deep water. I set hard and ohh yes, this was the big dog we needed... I still think I did everything right, but halfway to the boat my line went slack, she just came off.. Definatetly not my day....Finished in the top 10 w a little over 15lbs. Winners had 18 1/2

Report: This message is for the last post from Bill.
I am taking the wife out tommorrow striper fishing, I would like to hopefully help her catch some fish. If you could help what areas were productive for you? Incoming or outgoing tide? I appreciate any help I can get.
I have not had much success the last two times I took her out.

    Thanks,
    Pineapple
