    Water Temp: 47-53?

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Fished on Sunday 3-16-03, so did a bunch o other people, humm. No ish to be ound, unless your looking or a little un and sun with a touch o rain. It started out slow on south end, ran around a bit about mid-lake and decided to head north young man. That didn't help, so I went to my secret spot you probably know it by the old Oak and the boat near by. Slapped a couple in the head and realized they were being tough, ran home, what up.
    City: Seistaville

Tips: Oten when ishing in the rain I ind it a great pleasure to take o my rain gear and really enjoy the water spout o lie. Lure, should be picked on mood color-blue or mellow, red or uptight, and silver or quickness. RAt tap tap tap tap............See the lure, be the lure

    Water Temp: 53-57

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: In response to the question concerning water clarity in the North end - CLEAR! The nagging question that remains or me, however, is where have all the quality ish gone? Ater seeing some heavy tournament weights the past several weeks, the tournament this past Sunday had surprisingly low weights or some pretty darn good anglers. And we ared no better on Monday. A buddy and I ished rom sunrise to 4:00 PM, with only 8 keepers to show or the day -6 o those in the last hour. We stayed North all day and ished basically the west side, Lakeport, and Rodman. We began throwing blades, swimbaits and rippin' on the west side. Had one quality bass roll on the blade, but missed it completely. Targeted the mouths o deeper canals with the swimbaits, but no takers. Boated one small keeper on a Senko about 9:00 AM, then decided to move to Lakeport. Caught a 3 lber. on a Senko and missed a Fluke ish at Rocky Point. We then headed or Rodman in the hopes o inding a blade or lip bite. MUCH more color in Rodman, but not a bite ater 2 ruitless hours. Moving back to the west side about 2:30 PM, we pulled out the light stu in an attempt to salvage the day. Targeting a major bay, we backed out into about 10' o water and (oh, the horror!) proceeded to dropshot 6 keeper buck bass in the last hour. Bucks are actively cruising, but wouldn't touch any o the reaction baits we oered. So, again I ask -Where have all the ladies gone?
    City: Elk Grove

Tips: With water temps. hitting 57+ in the aternoon and a small ront moving through, we had all the makings o a great day. Well... Lots o small keeper buck bass or the taking - i you're willing to play lightly. Still scratching my head, I'm araid.

    Water Temp: 48-51

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: I ished a ather-son team at the north end on Friday, hoping the sun would really warm things up. Friday was to be a bit cooler and it was. I wish we had the weekend weather a day early. I watched and talked to several boats (actually the anglers!!) and ound ishing to be rather slow compared to last week. Tuesday and Wednesday nights were very cold and that probably slowed things down a bit. We did not get the big bites we did last week but did manage to land 9 tournament keepers and one short. The biggest was only 3 1/4 pounds on a 128 pointer minnow. The jig continued to be good or 2 pound bass, as was the sour grape brush hog (a good spring color!). We targeted walls with rock on them and scattered tule clumps that were slightly oshore. The action did pick up in the aternoon but the water temp - even with the sun out - only increased 1 to 2 degrees - probably because o a steady breeze rom the south. I like it when we have a 4 to 6 degree rise in an aternoon. That should be just around the corner! It will be interesting to see what a good storm this weekend will do to the ishing. I it is cold, we will be back to a slow period. I showed them a lot o new spots and we had a great time!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: Because o the clear water we downsized the size o our brown/orange jigs and that seemed to help. I threw swimbaits o and on, but no takers. There just didn't seem to be many shallow ish like there were last week - or we just wern't in the right places. At least we saw a big ish - a guy got a 9 pounder on a minnow and released it unharmed. We ound a lot o our jig ish in the shadows o docks, in about 5 to 10 eet o water. Shadows are important with water this clear!

    Water Temp: 49-52

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Fished 100% bass on Sunday. My partner had ound some ish the day beore. I hadn't been on the lake since early November. We ished the north end rippin and throwing swimbaits irst thing. We got the big zero until I stuck one (4lbs) at 9:30 on a rip bait. I stuck another at 10:00. Same bait same size ish. I got our third ish (13") at 11:30 on a split shot rig. We struggled until 2-3pm when we caught our ish and lost one. The ish were 2.5-3.5lbs. All came on split shot baby brush hogs. Our 7 ish limit was 25.47 which took 5th.
    City: Petaluma

Tips: First dress warm. Second target lats into spawning coves and be patient. We really struggled until the bite turned on at about 2pm. The water is really clear so use light line and ish really slow. June bug or watermelon/red baby hogs. See ya at BASS in April.

    Water Temp: 49-52

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: I helped two clients prepare or an upcoming tournament and will attempt to tell a little about the trip i my ingers have thawed enough to move!! We ished the north end (that is all I will say about speciic areas in respect to them) and expected a pleasant day in the sun. We launched about 8 am at Lucerne as the og was burning o. We had sun alright - maybe or an hour. Within the next hour it became totally cloudy, breezy, and bone-chilling cold. Luckly the rain was south o us and we only got about 15 drops. One guy I heard took his boat out, went home and jumped into the hot tub. My next Ranger will have one o those!!! Bottom line - drastic cold ront. Luckly, we did get a head start on the rip bite, all throwing 128 Pointers. One client got a nice 2 1/2 pounder right away. We ound 52 degree water and the other client nails a nice one but looses it. The NEXT cast he nails another good one which wasn't hooked well but he handled it great and good he did, 'cause she weighed 6 lbs 4 oz. I am one happy guide now!!! I soon got a 2 pounder as the weather was going in the tank. The rip bite died and I assumed the ishing would too since there would be no shallowed movement this day. We decided to go with Senkos and jigs. The jig bite hadn't been too good - until today. We caught several and lost several, with the other client landed a nice 3 lb 11 oz bass. I also caught one on the Camanche Jack water dragon worm in the hitch color, using just a swivel or the weight. As the clouds started to clear, the wind really came up but we tried one more spot. I am most happy when a client catches the biggest bass o the trip - but when I got a hit on my Weapon jig/Yamamoto grub combo and elt the surge o power, I though we would be now talking about a good limit - i I could get her in. I did - all 8 lbs 6 oz o her. what a ish. So we wound up with 13 tournament keepers and a 23-2 limit. Cold weather and hot? ishing - a day to remember - when we warm up!!!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: We used two or three jig colors, so I don't think that was a major actor. Working them slow was! Without saying too much, we seemed to ind ish in rock and tules, but not much on docks. The water is pretty clear everywhere so long casts may be important. The bass are very healthy and the 01 spawn are nice size ish now. Should be a un year!

Fished several areas rom Redbud to the Boat works, Rattlesnake to Konocti with no takers on plastics, rip baits or cranks. Warmest water temp was only 50 with the average on the south end only 47. By looking at previous reports the temps has dropped 8-10 degrees over the past couple o weeks. Makes or tough ishing unless using live bait.

    Water Temp: 48-49

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: A client and I took a chance on the good weather holding thru Monday evening - hoping it would be warm like last week with some cloud cover moving in. We launched about 5 pm and lost the weather bet on all counts! Almost immediately a 15 to 20 mph wind came up out o the southeast and made it cold and miserable. I have no idea where the wind came rom since I don't think it was related to the small ront coming in. This kind o wind is rare at Clear Lake in the winter. Ater dark we got coee at Knoncti Resort and saw something I couldn't believe - the whole harbor alive with jumping baitish in the middle o winter. I know the lake is warmer than normal, but this was quite a sight. No wonder ishing with artiicials is tough! We tried to ind areas to ish but it was diicult and then the rain started - real good!! Didn't last too long however. We wound up near Rattlesnake Island to get out o the wind, ishing ledges instead o rockpiles. My client was ishing his avorite black/chartreuse 8" zipper worm and inally nailed a beautiul 4 1/2 pounder. I elt great. He soon hooked another but lost it near the boat. I got only one bite on my black/red brush hog but it was a great hit - THUNK!! I thought it was early all! I knew it was a good one and it tipped the scales at 7 lb 9 oz. I really was surprised I had the energy to set the hook - I was mentally and physically exhausted rom ighting the elements. So, a rough trip turned out ok - slow ishing but a 6 pound average!!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: One doesn't get many bites at night in January, but they are usually large bass. Five bass in these past two trips or over 28 pounds is the quality ishing I am looking or. It is usually diicult to do that without live bait in the daytime. I'm sure we would have done better i the weather would have allowed us to ish well. The three bites we got this trip were in the 8 to 12 oot range, all in rock. This was my second bite rom a 7 pound plus bass this week since one o the two large 7+ pound bass in the demo tank at ISE in Sacramento bit my Weapon jig during my Friday seminar! What a hoot or me and the audience. Trouble is - I wasn't allowed to land it, darn!!!!!

    Water Temp: 48

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: When the temperature reached 65 degrees in Yuba City yesterday (my home), I knew it was the night to try a winter night trip. I was ready ater a month-long absence rom the lake. I bribed a riend o mine to go with the "real men do stupid things like this" line - it worked! We arrived at the Clearlake Oaks ramp at 8:30 pm and ound the lake to be socked in with og. Great - what do we do now? It was 55 degrees - amazing or January - so we launched and ollow hwy 20 up the lake. At least I could "hear" where we were. As we got up towards the narrows the og lited a bit, but it didn't help the ishing. Not a bite or our hours. But it was un dodging the og! It was also cloudy with the hal moon peeking in and out - a true spooky night! The lake was dead lat calm - not a breath o wind. I started working some rocky area that I know had steep breaks - now ishing a black/red brush hog since I had lost my Weapon jig. Maybe that would change my luck. It did! About 12:30 am I elt something that you can only eel with a G. Loomis GLX rod and my Fireline. My "hog" didn't eel right about the 25 oot depth and I set the hook. Ater 4 hours I though it would be un to set the hook - just or practice. Well, it was the real thing and I soon had a at 4 pounder in the boat. I was holding my head high!! A ew minutes later on another break, I elt something weird and set the hook but didn't eel good about the set until the 6 1/2 pounder was in the boat! Sure enough, the hook ell out o her mouth. That surge o power ater hooking her was worth the drive. The next cast - a real "tick" and a big-belly 5-11 was in the net. Didn't want my riend to orget his netting skills! It was starting to rain and the og was lowering, so I told him "one more spot"! About 10 minutes later, ater telling him how wonderul it was to just catch big ish in the winter, my buddy gets on the board - with a 9 incher!!! Guess I'll keep my mouth shut in the uture. I'm not sure how high his head was but at least he caught one. Everything on dragged brush hogs and 3 or 16 pounds 3 ounces. The drive home was nice!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: I should mention that ishing last night was really not something that most anglers should do. The weather conditions were horrid - even or me. With my years o night experience on the lake I knew we could ish a ew areas i we were very cautious. You really ind out how well you know a lake (or the delta) in conditions like this. The brush hog is really tough to beat on winter nights - or days or that matter. We used lots o Smelly Jelly! I believe in that stu! The big bass were in great shape and very at. I you ish these cold conditions - set the hook on "eelings" that you normally wouldn't in warmer water. The lake seems to be slightly above average in water temp this year because o the warm storms. We were reading 48 to 49 degrees with one spot a 50! - and that is at night!

    Water Temp: 55

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: Started at Konocti, ished all night, caught just enough ish to keep us going, some 4s, some 5s, using zippers, and powerworms 10 inch, then watched the sunrise, ished till 11 am, got o the boat, andcould barely walk, somekind o weird motionsickness. Ate breatast elt better, wantedto go out somemore but used common sense andwent home to sleep. Clearlake is way bad.I mean that in a good way.Something unny happened to me about a monthearlier, I was ishing in niece with a partner or a club tourney. He had cast around this dock and was ixing a rats nest, and I was circling around the other side. I cast in saw my line move and set the hook. The ight was great until I looked over at mypartner who said whoa we doubled up. Fiveseconds later ater some serious loomis tugging I reeled up enough to see our gamagatsus were caught on each other.
    City: angwin

Tips: I ound the bite to be tough, all these guysare using live bait, not my bag, there weretons o pelicans, tons o shad in certaincoves, and I wish it was October when I was ishing at night with my black light inmy shorts and short sleaves. Oh well, springsa comin.

    Water Temp: 54

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)

Report: A client and I started ishing the lake Friday about an hour beore dark. In less than an hour we had our in the boat - using jigs - with the biggest at 4 lb 13 oz. We were ishing rocky areas along the hwy 20 side. Ater dark we worked our way to the south end o the lake and ound a lot o biters, but not too many swallowers! We had short strikes rom small bass to be sure, but I think some were rom quality bass that just wern't very hungry. Worms seemed to produce bites better than jigs ater dark. The best ater dark bass was a 3 1/2 pounder and a hot 5 lb 1 oz bass that took a 6 inch zipper worm. We landed a total o 10 bass with the ive biggest about 16 1/4 lbs. I'm not very proud o that, but I elt we did well since the bass just arn't eeding much at night as in previous years. In addition to the trophy bass population decline, the baitish explosion has caused the bass and catish to eed heavily during the day and I guess they are just too tired and stued to do much at night. It will be interesting to see i that changes soon, as the water temp is about 5 degrees above normal or Dec 1st. I will be there to ind out. Stay tuned!!!
    City: Yuba City

Tips: The baitish seem to be heading or deeper water, at least at night. I even saw some schools on the meter that were right on the bottom o the lake. The carp were rolling good most o the night and the bass seemed to be active but not aggressive. None o our hits were the normal all smashing jerks. The weather was cold but stable - I really thought we would do better. I really think there will be a period where the night bite will turn on, but the water temp has to cool o a ew degrees. All o our ish came on rocky areas with a good dropo.

    Water Temp: Upper 50's ?

Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)

Report: Well buddies, those big ol' drag rippin' kitties are back in ull orce at Clear Lk. again !!! Just like last year.... maybe even better ! (i that even sounds possible) As I was driving down Konocti Rd. towards the marina, I looked over to my right and I was thrilled to see that the whole back o Konocti bay (between Frasier and Wheeler points) was slam ull o Pelicans ! I stopped to take a ew pictures, and I chose my starting point right then and there (a spot I had never ished beore) based on where the birds were thickest. I got o to a really late start (about 9:45 am). Made my irst cast with rozen Shad that I had bought rom the bait store. Then started to rig my other pole..... but that never happened, as... Tick.... my irst line starts going... Wham ! Fish on ! Fought great but was only a baby at 9.0 lbs. So ater that, I bait up again and make another cast. I start to rig the other rod and ... Tick.... there goes my line again... Wham ! Fish on... it goes 12.1. Next cast produces a 12.6. To make a long story short, it was almost impossible to ish with two poles or most o the day, as the ish were just jumping on too ast ! Only lost two ish all day on the micro-light...... One got me around a cable, and one ran all the way through a huge mat o weeds. Saw them both though and they were not 20's anyway. Also, I ished the one spot I had chose rom up at the road, all day..... I was thinking, where could I move to to make it any better than "one ater another" ? Final count, 31 Channel cats or 474.5 lbs (15.3 lb average) (when you see my score sheet, that 16.0 on the second row is actually a 16.9... I can't read my own writing :-) and two White cats o about 5 and 6 lbs (nice size or White cats). Honestly, I think i I would have started at 7 am, I could have caught between 600 and 700 lbs ! .... but you might have had to carry me o the lake..... as I was so worn out rom ighting ish as it was, that it was tough just to make it home ! Bet ya'll eel sorry or me don't you :-)BTW, This beats every one o the awesome catish trips I had last year or total poundage in a single trip ! My previous best was 435 lbs. Oh..... and I didn't add my weights until back in the truck..... OR, I would have stayed or a couple more ish so I could beat my buddy Dee's all time high (Dee's total was the highest I have ever heard o rom anybody, o 500.2 lbs) That's OK, I'll pass him soon :-)The weather was absolutely gorgeous, and with the exception o one gooball who was out there skiing, and a couple day cruisers, the lake was basically void o traic...... Photos: http://www.trophybassonly.com/id99.htm What a great Thanksgiving day ! Certainly a lot to be thankul or, Peace, Fish PS, I almost orgot...... O course every one o these ish was released unharmed. I have nothing against sensable selective harvest o a ew smaller ish or eating purposes, but I think it would be absurd or any one person to remove several hundred lbs o these awesome sportish in a single trip ! It is also rediculous that the Ca DFG does nothing to protect these big cats.Oh..... and one more cool highlight...... The 18.5 lb'er put on one heck o a show ! It actually ran and did a long jump while hooked ! Never seen a catish do this ! Ater that it did some serious ighting halway out o the water too ! Sure wish I had that one on video......Thank you Lord or another awesome day on the water.
    City: Suisun

Tips: Look or the birds to ind the Shad..... That is where the kitties will be. Use Shad or bait, as that is what they are eating. You can buy them, or you can catch them with a dipnet..... but they are hard to net on days with a clear blue sky as they tend to go a bit deeper.
