Oroville Lake
-
Water Temp: 48
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: What a treat - I got taken to Oroville by a friend who is fishing an upcoming tournament. I didn't even have to think - I just went where the boat went!!! Too bad I didn't think a little harder when I was setting the hook - man, I lost a lot of fish. One of those days when they bit after my bait settled from the 80 yard cast!! What a beautiful day (the last one for awhile I hear) complete with 2 eagle sightings!! I landed 5 nice spots and a dink or two and my partner stuck 9 - including a 16 inch smallie! We also had one spot apiece over the slot and a typical limit of near 10 lbs. Great day to be outdoors!
City: Yuba CityTips: Can't give any tips of course but we did fish all main lake areas. The incoming VERY cold front could really make for a tough bite in the near future. The lake is coming up a bit but fish are really scattered. Only one bank produced about 4 or 5 bites - usually just one here and one there. Good luck to all you tournament folk!!

Water Temp: 51
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fishing with Sid
It was a beautiful day on Saturday but quite cold on the water and colder still
when the sun
started going down. My wife and I headed out early afternoon and decided to try
fishing a
rocky slope about a half a mile long. I threw top water at least forty times
with no reaction.
I changed to brass and glass with a watermelon senco and my wife used the same
set-up
but with a pumpkin senco. She caught more fish then I did and we both lost a
lot of soft
bites. I observed a gentleman and his two kids fishing a split-shot with live
mini worms. They
were fishing in the marina dragging the worm over the bottom and hooking some
bass and
even some trout. Next time I will get their names and a picture for the
newspaper. Sunday
I went out for a few hours by myself to the same spot as the day before. Again
no top water
action but I did very well with the brass and glass. The bass I was catching
were all in the
fourteen to sixteen inch range in approximately four to twenty feet of water.
It seems they
are going for the slow retrieve right now. But as all fishermen know that can
change at any
time. The water temperature is about fifty-one degrees. A lot of trout are
visible on the top
three to four feet of water chasing shad in the early morning. They will go for
a rattle trap or
crankbait that resembles shad. If you are fishing from the shore, hook a minnow
behind the
dorsel fin about three feet under the bobber. For those who want to see a new
site ask for
Mike or Dino at Spanish Flats and let them show you the size of the otters that
are in the
water by their marina. I thought they were seals. 'til next
week.............good fishing!!!

Water Temp: 53
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Norm & I launched @ Markley around 10 am. Water by the dam was pretty choppy. We headed for the narrows and fished the coves in that area. Just too windy to fish the main part of the lake. Fished mostly darterheads & Robo worms. Brown and red seemed to work the best. Caught 6 fish between us 4 were 2.5 + (nice fish) 2 were just keepers.
City: WoodlandTips: Fish are still interested in darterheads. Some taken drifting over points. Backend of coves didn

Calero Reservoir

Water Temp: 46.5
Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: Air temperature was nice, but the water was frigid. I thought my sonar might be misreading the actual temperature considering it was reported 53 degrees near the end of December 2006. Guys in boat reported same temperature (47 degrees) in post below so at least my sonar is accurate.
Anyway I got two bites and managed to catch a 2.5 lb bass at 2:50 pm on a black/blue jig. Fished from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
City: San Jose -
Water Temp: 47

Worms lisards brush hogs crank bait swim bait spinners(every color in the rainbow) NOTHING!!!.It was a bad day, Talked to three other boaters and two float tubers and they also had no luck at all. Good luck to whoever can land a LMB out there.

Clear Lake
-
Water Temp: 45
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Launched at about 11AM yesterday after most of the fog had cleared. Fished around the Indian Beach area for awhile and noted numerous schools of Shad in the process of dying off. The birds were enjoying quite the feast. Marked a few suspended fish on the sonar but couldn't convince any of them to bite. So we headed over to Konocti and caught a few crappie using red/whit and white 1/16 oz crappie jigs. at about 3PM we decided to hit Shag Rock and on the way there we fished around Anderson Island...nada..zip..zilch...nothing even showing up on the sonar. Arrived at Shag Rock for the last hour of the day and caught a few more crappie before calling it a day and heading home. All fish were released unharmed.
City: PetalumaTips: For crappie red/white and white jigs were the ticket.
For bass who knows what the hell they want right now???? I know I sure don't :(

Sonoma Lake

Water Temp: 51.3-53.4
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: caught a total of 11 bass two on a crankbait and the rest on the drop shot using MMM III. Fished the south end and then whent up to warms spring and the fish for us were on fairly steep drop-offs and the fish hit mainly in the 15 to 40 foot range. Great day to be there and I plan on fishing the REBC at Clear lake on Jan 20th. see you there.

City: san brunoTips: Use your fish finder and fish on top of the fish and be patient. Tie your drop shot hook closer to the sinker.

Stevens Creek Lake
-
Water Temp: 55ish
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: caught a 4.5 fat girl, prolly full of eggs, dropshotting. Red lips, throw craws. Lake might be down 12 feet but as long as its not muddy its still okay fishing. I caught the fish around 10, fished til 1 without anything else.
City: santa claraTips: I guess if you can find the girls that are beefing up for the spawn than you hit the jackpot. Watch them later on moving to near the boat launch to pick up rainbow trout and later moving to the creek channel if the lake gets high enough. theres real nice spawning flats back there. tight lines!

Thanks Jack, your jig produced my first fish ever on a jig, fisrt fish of 2007 and my largest bass ( 3 1/2 lbs ) to date on this lake.
Tips: Kept the boat in 20' to 25' of water pichting back to the steep rocky banks of the coves working the jig back very slowly!!!! Bites were light taps, waited for the line to move, reel down and set the hook.

Water Clarity: Muddy (0-2 foot visibility)
Report: What's up Roger's, no 371V in your name this time. ya git rid of her. I noticed you had five in the boat. Did you get a yacht. I saw a bass boat that day that was packed and your fave spot, its mine too. Don't worry, I won't give it away. I am the guy that sometimes fishes out of about a 15 foot red seaswirl and almost always throwin a jig! I saw you a few times when your ranger was in the shop and you were fishing in a small boat that looked like it had a cabin!
Sounds like you have a good minner bite going, congrats.
Been tough on the south end, I got skunked today, but then again I was chuckin the big baits in the middle of winter. I know I could stick a small bag if I downsized, but I don't enjoy that.Tips: Do better than me. I'd like to get a ton of rain in the next few weeks and have the weather chill by mid feb or so I can start stickin pigs! Be here before we know it. I hope it's not a late winter, so the water clarity gets good early and I can throw what I want to at em and win some moola. Wishful thinking, haha! Give me some tips so I can get em in the winter. Dec. to Feb is rough out here for me, but I know guys are gettin em. Someone always is

Report: It was tough and cold! I hooked and landed a 2 lb-er on a rip bait fished slowly around a rockpile. Missed a carolina rig fish twice! My partner missed a jig fish and had 2 drop shot fish on....then off. He finally landed one. Hope the Folsom BAss league guys did better!

San Justo Lake

Water Temp: 49-50
Water Clarity: Clear (4+ foot visibility)
Report: Arrived at around 8 or so it was freezing..water temp read about 49.4 at first but later hit the 50 degree mark at around 12. Started out using a rip bait, hula grub, and drop shot to the point right of the launch ramp..there is a christmas tree out there in a about 20 ft that consistently holds fish..but nothing...headed to the point straight across from the launch and caught a 2.3 and a 3.6 in 30-35 ft using the hula grub..i was fishing the right side when i caught these 2..moved to the left side and came up emtpy..left the point, as it was getting hammered by trollere and other bassfisherman..moved to the back area, this is probably the least pressured area in the lake, and a lot of big bass are caught back there becuase of that..stayed in about 35 ft the whole time and came up with 2 bass that were both about a pound each drop shotting shad imitations.
City: SalinasTips: what can i say the conditions were pretty much horrible, clear skies..cold water..no wind what so ever..was hoping the wind would come up so i could really throw the huddleston..i found the most active fish in 30-40 ft..fished other depths but blanked..i would suggest fishing the back areas because all of the good areas on the main lake get hammered all day..there also some christmas tress back there that hold fish, u just have to find them, have a great season guys be safe

Berryessa Lake
-
Water Temp: betwen 48 and 5
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: launched around 6:00 am and mainly fished the narrows. I threw a 3/8 oz jig and my partner threw a darter head. I caught 4 fish between 1 and 2.5 lbs on the jig before the sun came up, then the jig bite quit and I swithed to the darter head. Biggest fish( approx. 2.5 lbs.) was caught on the jig. Early in the morning the fish were caught fairly close to the bank. When the sun came up we caught fish about 15 to 20 feet deep on the darter head.
Tips: The better darter head fish were caught on 7 inch worms fished slow and all were pressure bites.

Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Fish from sun up to sun down with 30 plus fish in the boat. No size, but what a fun day. Fished jigs, drop shot and even a swimbait for the first time. Had one big fish follow in the swimbait and hit it but it didn't stick. All fish came from a black grape (deep Purple) roboworm dropshotting in 25' of water in the 5 mph zone.
Tips: Let me know where the big boys are. I couldn't find them.

Lexington Lake
-
Water Temp: 50
Water Clarity: Stained (2-4 foot visibility)
Report: Matt,
We have been having 10-15 largies in 2.5-3 hrs on the main lake on all rocky points in about 15 ft of water. Shake a dark worm on 1/4 oz head on the sunny side of MAIN LAKE points. I read your report about catching smallies in Lexington and I would like to know what kind of LSD you were on when you caught it. There are no smallies in that lake. You have to look at the color of the fish, not the mouth. If the fish had vertical brown stripes then its a smallie. If the fish is green with lateral stripes (which it was) then its a largemouth.
I want a picture-
Sincerely,
Matt
City: campbellTips: Dont fish for smallies there arent any.
Shake dark worms on rocky points on the main lake.
